    Had 2 aborted attempts at watching this show then on the 3rd persevered and was "anchored" firmly to the sofa for a binge whilst off sick from work. Loved every minute of it!

    Israel hands and woodes Rodgers were also historical.
    Hands sailed under Teach (Blackbeard)
    Rodgers was a privateer and governor of Nassau.

      They even gave us a clip of Mary Read in the finale. Fan service earned, I say!

      @@heyskipj hahah I caught that. When Ann gave Jack a look, I thought for sure she was going to say 'you trying to hire an all woman crew' or something. But yea, I kept waiting for her to be introduced, so it was cool she was... however, her appearance is bad news for our ol pal Jack.

    I'd heard about this show for YEARS, but never watched it, figured if it was really great I'd hear more. Then GoT happened, and I got sucked into that, and then shows trying to copy it. But just last week I started this show, and have now binged it to completion, and all I can say is why aren't more people talking about this show. Maybe my favorite historical fiction drama ever, and just one of the best tv shows ever made. It's soo solid from front to back, really reminds me of Breaking Bad that way. They had a clear vision of a story that only needed 4 seasons, and they ended it almost perfectly. The writing is incredible, as said in the video, no one is a 'good' guy, and each episode they try and sway viewers feelings on characters. It's like what GoT did with Jaime, but x8 because they do it with a number of characters, but it always remains believable, and almost always shocking. And the special effects are incredible, I had to actually wonder a number of times if they actually had ships on the water firing at each other lol

    Definitely a fan. I wish the ending for captain Flint was a bit more deserving as it felt like he was being locked away into a home for the elderly - and I'm sure he would never go down without a fight - still 98% of the show is just incredible. Superb acting, very detailed and believable characters, a living environment for the pirates to roam around in and a dramatic story that's unfolding naturally. Yarrrgh! That's nine outta ten skulls from me.

    The show is simply exceptional. The writing is superb and the acting by the whole ensemble cast is even better. The remarkable Toby Stephens, who plays Captain Flint, is part of a theater dynasty. His mother, still living, is the uniquely talented Dame Maggie Smith, and his late father was the legendary actor, Sir Robert Stephens. Toby is an extremely versatile actor who can break your heart or make you laugh yourself silly. The breadth and diversity of the characters he has played over the years is quite stunning. On the one hand, he played the best-ever Mr. Rochester in a version of Jane Eyre. Then he was a villain in a James Bond 007 film. He made audiences roar with 😮laughter in a rendition of the Noel Coward play, "Private Lives." He starred in a serious remake of the campy, decades-old TV show, "Lost in Space." Most recently, he is starring as Poseidon in a television remake of "Percy Jackson and the Olympians," based on the series of fantasy novels by writer Robert Riordan. Bottom line: if you see his name, watch the show.

      yea, I just finished it for the first time. Wow. Especially after the last few years of GoT clones, and tv shows turning to shit after a few seasons, it was REMARKABLY refreshing to watch an insanely well written show, with a great cast, that didn't try to shovel political opinions on me, and also stuck the landing in my books incredibly well. Every 2 or 3 episodes my jaw hit the floor.

      Yes! Thank you! Vikings is just frustrating to watch because of its historical inaccuracy! And this show is just amazing! Hardly any other show can be compared to it. I really miss watching it (gotta go back to it at some point)

    I’m glad this show exposed how evil, brutal and self-righteous England was while they walk around thinking they are the peek of civilized society while wearing scalps cut off of other people heads. When the redcoats really arrived they acted worse than most of the pirates while thinking they were somehow better because they had the backing of a country. This is what England did to most of the world, and it’s only been around 50 years ago that they withdrew from another country they were still subjugating, forgive me for forgetting which one.
    This shows says a lot about what true freedom is, and subjugation to authority.

    Rackham was 1000% NOT the first pirate to raise the black 😬🤷‍♂️

      He said that he was the first to fly the jolly roger flag which became the most recognized pirate flag in history. Nobody said he was the first to fly a black flag.

    • @nathanieljohnston9102
      @nathanieljohnston9102 Год назад +1

      @@jiggnorth3593 yeah, which he wasn’t. Rackham became active as a Pirate Cpt around 1718. Reports of pirates using black flags with skull type motifs are documented to at least immediately following Queen Annes War. Rackham was one of the last (and least successful) Pirates of the Golden Age. Sam Bellamy has historical attestations to his flags, and he died before Ol’ Jack ever sat eyes on his bonny lass. Not to mention Emmanuel Wynne, Edward Thatch (his real flag was just a skull), and countless others. Rackham is credited with designing the “classic” flag of skull and crossed sabres, but even this is highly disputed.
