    Good on you for putting this on.
    Salatin isn't a university academic. A real farmer who turned a terrible plot of land into a successfully productive farm. I listen to him, as a former rancher myself, and he "resonates" in me. A kind heart and already did the work himself.

    I work for USDA, and I used to be a County Extension Agent. I really respect Joel Salatin... I'm hopeful. We'll see what comes from his insights. Many people within the various agencies love his concepts. USDA is no different than any other departments though it's run by the people it seeks to "regulate", so change is quite difficult 👍

      Our County Extension office in my county seems to be winding down - I have to make an appointment to get my canner gauge tested now (they have to send them out!) and email with any gardening/pest/plant ID questions. Do they just not have the staff anymore? Or are these things truly just not as active?

    • @benjaminshirley
      @benjaminshirley 22 дня назад

      @abarn9541 That's possible... The Extension program is run by each state's Land Grant University, so it really depends on how much financial support they get from your state's legislature. In Georgia we have a very strong extension presence in each county, though neighboring states have gone to Area Agents for many things due to cuts in budgets.

    I am strongly in favor of crop rotation, organic farming, and so forth. However, a few years ago, the Sri Lankan government tried to switch to organic farming overnight; this led to a mass crop failure, which led to regime change. My question then is how the federal government could promote good practices without causing more harm than good in the short term? I'm not asking in a hostile spirit, BTW. I'm just concerned while hopeful.

He, Joel, and RFK would be an unstoppable, knowledgeable team that would absolutely save our small farms, & advocate for 'new' (old) farming methods that produce organic, 10:42 nutrient dense food. Those methods would mean healthy happy, farm animals, farmers and Americans! I hope that Joel and RFK are given free reign to make the changes that America and her farmers need!(Me? Excited? @@instargardensnice. I’m curious to compare it to other forms of farming. For example I know sunchokes can grow 20,000-60,000lbs per acre of 15 million calories per acre. That's enough to feed 15-20 people for an entire year on a single acre each year on perennials that don't need to be replanted or tended to or even really watered. The Irish survived on them before potatoes were introduced as well. They also make good animal feed. But curious how it compares to cows or pigs or chickens.

    • @instargardens
      @instargardens  20 дней назад

      @ perennials are incredible food sources! But even the Irish have depended on grass fed butter, sheep and other animal fats. Without fat, we would starve. This is where animal regenerative agriculture comes in. Perennials and all plants need nutrition too; hence, animal manure 💩
