You really think he was good enough in 2004 to get a video like this? Ive been following since 2000 and i saw that entire 2004 season race by race and lap by lap to the last one at Homestead and i must say when the 8 crew was on they were lights out better than anyone easy. But when they were off? They were really off. Talladega he did lose the points lead because of that slip of the tongue. But even if he kept it did you see how he ran at Darlington and Homestead when he had to absolutely perform? Jeff Gordon Jimmie Johnson and Kurt Busch were by far way more consistent than Jr. He didn't even beat a one win Mark Martin that year when he won more races than him in the regular season and the Chase and you say he is missing a ring? Look 2004 is easily his greatest season statistically and even emotionally he was happiest i and many would believe. Now can i say he had a better season than the overall champion Kurt Busch? Well regarding wins yes. But he WAS NOT even close to being as consistent as Gordon and ESPECIALLY Jimmie Johnson who won 4 of the last 6 races. Idk man i think your reaching HARD. Earnhardt Jr does not have missing rings in my opinion. To me he was a good race car driver. But other than what he did at Daytona and Talladega he never wowed me in his career. Something about winning 4 races in a 9 year stretch had something to do with it...

Your Cognitive Dissonance Binds You You obviously didn’t watch the whole video because I literally pointed out how many points they gave away between cussing, the Atlanta wreck, and Martinsville mistakes. Everyone that year was not as consistent as most years.

My favorite driver since 1998 cuz I didn't even watch Nascar till my senior year in High School so I wasn't one of those mass of fans that came over because of his Dad and it seemed like from 99-2001 the future was bright he dominated the hell out of the Bush series in 98-99 and had an outstanding rookie cup year in 2000 then when his father passed I could see for obvious reasons he wasn't the same till 2004. Saying the word Shit in Talladega in Victory Lane in the chase they docked him 25 then the damn Atlanta race he won there in the Spring and was fighting for the lead at the close of the race and got taken out which was the costliest wreck of his Championship hopes and he even won at Phoenix afterwards. Now a days they wouldn't dock u for saying the word Shit. I've heard network slips all the time without penalty. After this cost him his greatest season the downfall started when DEI gave him Waltrips team in 2005. The haters can say what they want but Dale Sr death was a factor as he raced to gain his attention and now he was gone and with that the leadership DEI needed plus concussions he will always be my favorite driver because of his honest genuine personality and emotional passion.

The FCC was issuing insane fines to networks during this time. NBC didn't have a 5 second delay, so NASCAR had no other option to fine him. Moreover, NASCAR was already fining people for swearing on live radio/TV broadcasts. Both Johnny Sauter and Hornaday lost 25 points for profanity months earlier. For once, NASCAR was consistent. Jr should have watched his mouth.

Jacob Johnson they need changes and need them now. Do you know what the nascar pinty series is. That’s what the cup cars should be built like. They should build them the exact same but with 900 hp and sound like the Gen 4 at speedways and superspeedways and every where cause the Gen 4 sounded badass. That’s what they need for cars. They need to use 2000 rules or 90s rules there is way too many rules. They need the tracks all to be built rough with a repave so they are hard to drive. They need to get rid of the chase and go back to what it was. They need to get rid of all these gimmick rules they have added since 2000 like the going below the yellow line. They need to make Bristol how it was. This is what the schedule should be.
      Daytona
      2.Atlanta
      3.Phoenix
      4.Auto club night
      5.Kern county night

      28.Richmond Night
29.Charlotte roval or another road course.
      30.Las Vegas
      31.Martinsville night
      32.Bristol night
      33.Darlington Night
      34.Rockingham
      35.Talledega Add lights night
      36.Homestead revolving schedule.
They need to add lights at the tracks I’ve said for something new.
This is if they keep the chase. If they don’t then move talledega up a bit and martinsville up. Other than that keep everything the same. Also make races on local races instead of fs1 and nbcsn. Just use fox and nbc. Also they need to get Allen bestwick back and a few other announcers. Lastly they need a spending cap so ever team can have a chance again like the old days so teams aren’t dumping there life in to race cars and it’s affordable. That means it’s true driver skill again and not all equipment. Any team can win sponsor or not. Being on a big team should mean yes you get a little bit better equipment and a good teammates but it’s definitely not impossible to win in bad equipment.

It should’ve stayed 10 drivers reset on points and go the last 10 races. 2004 2006 2010 2011 and 2012 all had really good championship battles and you didn’t need to go heavy on the playoff gimmicks. A matter of inches and a BS last minute rule for the 2015 fall Talladega race that would only let them get 1 GWC attempt screwed him out of a very good shot at the title that year. I guarantee you that if they had another attempt or had been allowed to race, Jr would've won that race and not been eliminated and with the rained out Phoenix race gifting him another victory, he would've made in to Homestead that year with at least having a shot. Of course, assuming it had gone the same way, he would've wrecked out of Homestead, but he would've at least had the opportunity.

Plus many others I haven’t listed. Kurt Busch is *not* forgettable.

    • @evanwilliams6406

Kurt Busch got a lot of lucky breaks in 2004 that got him that championship and he capitalized on the mistakes the others made. I'd say the 2004 championship went to the luckiest guy more than the best guy, but I give more credit to crew chief Jimmy Fennig more than anything else as his leadership steered Kurt through all this madness to keep the team together so they were able to accomplish a goal of winning a championship. So while it might not have been the champion we all were expecting, I have to give credit to Jimmy Fennig for his veteran leadership.

Should do a missing rings for Greg Biffle in 05. He led the series in wins, finished 2nd in points narrowly losing to Stewart and had several instances of bad luck most notably giving up the lead to pit for a loose wheel at Texas finishing 20th or so, and minus that alone he would have won the championship! 2004 was the peak of his career. It's too bad things fell apart at DEI the way they did, Junior had a good thing going there. I wonder what would have happened to juniors career had his father hung around to run the team. Never again did he have such a competitive, balanced, championship worthy campaign as he did in 2004. Wins on a mile and a half in Atlanta. Two short track wins at bristol and Richmond. A win at the tricky one mile triangle of Phoenix. And more of his typical plate dominance with a win at Talladega and a win in the Daytona 500. Such a shame what happened in the fall Atlanta race. Looking back, Dale blew the one real chance he had at a championship because his youthful will to fight for the win clouded his judgement

I think NASCAR as a whole would be in a much different place if he wins it all that year. Him winning the inaugural Chase would’ve made the Chase welcomed more by the fans. NASCAR may not have changed the format as much and may have even kept many fans over the nearly 15 years since.

I think 2004 was the season he should’ve won it. Yes the penalties hurt but take a look back at the summer months of that year. He had terrible runs and add an injury to that didn’t help. Dale Jr himself said that the summer months of 2004 is what aided in the break up with the Eury’s. Had he not got injured and had some better runs during that time he could’ve kept that momentum going into the chase. I believe his 2003 year was just as good as 2004. He didn’t have the wins but he led a lot of laps and had great finishes all year. During that time DEI was on the verge of being a great team similar to Hendrick and it all fell apart in November of 2004. It goes back to what if Dale Sr had been alive what would’ve been different.
