I've started hearing A Place to Bury Strangers on the radio and I thought to myself "Hey, this sounds like Skywave" a google search later I figured out why. Like the album.
Similies are nice. I'm sure they wouldn't deny the comparisons. But I really love this band, I think they have their own sound, similiar to many, but different enough to be brilliant.
I saw them this summer at pukkelpop , they are completely awesome live, wall of sound. yes, the day before APTBS i saw MBV live, the most sonic sound experience ever . WALL OF NOISE DOES EXIST. this song is really beautiful.
Brian Geraghty's theme song from Open House! He was so fantastic in the movie Flight with Denzel Washington as the co-pilot Ken Evans! He was good in Open House too! Love Brian/Ken Evans!
I don't know if I could sense the Depeche in this...It does have the dark, haunting vibe Joy Division withholds. This band has sooo much potential, though. They can only get better!
I've walked out of a gig before, but I went because it was a) 10 minutes walk from my place and b) my mates had a spare ticket. I wouldn't drive a 10 hour round trip to see a band without checking them out first.
I just could not wait to see you again No, I never, ever turned off on friends Well, I thought I heard you say, and I know I feel the rain But I can not give up looks until it's away Now I just can not take, the way to live my life Holding the last breath in my lungs I know I'll see you again, see you again Do not take my hand cause I take it away And I take everything just to take it away Well, you can not leave me problems You can not give me signs And as it easy you give, I can take it away Now I know the things I say Do not hold up in the rain Everyone was a gift straight from my heart Give it then, take it away Take it away Take it away I take it away I just could not wait to see you again No, I never, ever turned off on friends Well I thought I heard you say, and I know I feel the rain But I can not give up looks until it's away Do not take my hand, cause I take it away And I take everything just take it away I can not feel my head as it slips away My hands touch the ground, but I'm not safe I just could not wait to see you again I just could not wait to see you again See you again!
Yeah, I see what you mean :) All in all, APTBS is just great stuff. Who ever their influences are, they've managed to compile them together with a little zest of their own shit. This band gives me faith that newer music isn't totally going to shit..
One day A Place To Bury Strangers will bring the whole matrix down, and we will all live naturally again ............................. without a (proper) place to bury strangers ... :(
Just saw these blokes on 13 June at the Westword Music Fest, and I must say that they are a reminder of Joy Division. They have their own sound; I can clearly see them going somewhere.

Oh, of course. I didn't say anything about Depeche Mode being an influence. Both JD and JAMC have been used as examples. Never one without the other and I agree with the comparisons. They have that dark wave feeling that JD had, if you listen. Very sharp beats. There is no doubt that JAMC is probably their biggest influence. I'm not THAT musically inept, heh.
I saw them at The Westword music fest in Denver earlier this year in June, and it's definitely worth checking them out. I most def agree that they have the early feel of Joy Division - I snapped some great photos of them as well.
buin- I dig your list of influences... but I don't agree with the negative tilt you gave them... Every band is a new version of something old. I am just glad these guys are keeping shoegaze going for the next generation...
Not really Joy Division. The drums are programmed which i guess is like Automatic-era JAMC or New Order. That bass is totally Peter Hook/ Early-The Cure too.
This song has a pretty cool bassline. The bass in this song is so reminiscent of The Cure's 80s era.
Sounds very much like Baby Screams

Watched open house last night can't get enough of this song! Love these guys!
Open house 😍 i love this song ,and great movie!
it definitely has that sound, a lot in the beginning... i never noticed that.
nice observation. why so many thumbs down?
The cure can't hold a candle to this band.
Similies are nice. I'm sure they wouldn't deny the comparisons. But I really love this band, I think they have their own sound, similiar to many, but different enough to be brilliant.
I don't care who they sound like. they're just great. they sound like A Place To Bury Strangers and that's it.
I saw them this summer at pukkelpop , they are completely awesome live, wall of sound. yes, the day before APTBS i saw MBV live, the most sonic sound experience ever . WALL OF NOISE DOES EXIST. this song is really beautiful.
Reminds me of Bauhaus. Very cool sound. Thanks for posting
GREAT, Just GREAT!!!
Brian Geraghty's theme song from Open House! He was so fantastic in the movie Flight with Denzel Washington as the co-pilot Ken Evans! He was good in Open House too! Love Brian/Ken Evans!
Great song. I hear mixtures of some great post-punk influences all through this tune. Adding to my playlist, thanks for posting this.

If you realised, your discription of APTBS would fit NIN pretty well too!!!
since i've watched it's always snowing somewhere, im just lovin it ;)
they kick ass!
Master thieves I say!
So many great influences in this band, even way back to the big bang of it all: The Velvets!
Fuuuuuck. This is such a great song. I love APTBS!
Yesterday I was listening Depeche Mode and today you, I think is a good compliment!
amazing console sounds un place para nu bury strange saludos desde colombia
Amazing!
Someone probably stated it already, but the bass line sounds exactly like JAMC's "In A Hole."
But APTBS did a great job with it.
hope theyll be bigger
saw them at the same show right infront of ollies amp, couldnt hear straight for a week
awesome
OPEN HOUSE with Tricia great song !!!
Welcome back Shoegazer ! helll yeah !
Love this band too!
wooow i love it!!
I almost smelt a bit of early Swans in their too. nice.
These distorted patterns between 0:25 and 0:28 really remind me of JD's" Unknown pleasures" CD cover....
I just could not wait to see you again
No, I never, ever turned off on friends
Well, I thought I heard you say, and I know I feel the rain
But I can not give up looks until it's away
Now I just can not take, the way to live my life
Holding the last breath in my lungs
I know I'll see you again, see you again
Do not take my hand cause I take it away
And I take everything just to take it away
Well, you can not leave me problems
You can not give me signs
And as it easy you give, I can take it away
Now I know the things I say
Do not hold up in the rain
Everyone was a gift straight from my heart
Give it then, take it away
Take it away
Take it away
I take it away
I just could not wait to see you again
No, I never, ever turned off on friends
Well I thought I heard you say, and I know I feel the rain
But I can not give up looks until it's away
Do not take my hand, cause I take it away
And I take everything just take it away
I can not feel my head as it slips away
My hands touch the ground, but I'm not safe
I just could not wait to see you again
I just could not wait to see you again
See you again!
stuck in my head
I've seen this guys live yesterday and they're fucking crazy I really like them and the singer is so cool
(one of) the best shoegaze/psychedelic bands at this time.
defintely a must see realllllllllllly stoned. i was flipping out.
Lol, Yeah, the bass line reminds me of a Cure song, although, I can't remember what it's called. This is some of the best stuff I've heard in a while.
You can not only have 10 of their songs but help the band record their next album when you buy their 1 album!
Cool...love the sounds..... they listened to a lot of early 80s The Cure....hmmmm and some Bauhaus....
Yeah, I see what you mean :)
All in all, APTBS is just great stuff. Who ever their influences are, they've managed to compile them together with a little zest of their own shit. This band gives me faith that newer music isn't totally going to shit..
bass and drum machine sounds reminds New Orded
i feel TOTALLY let down that I didn't hear of this band sooner....
I wish more bands were inspired by that album
you sir are correct! ;}
Favorite band that primarily uses drum machines for effect (tr 909)
"It's always snowing somewhere" is where I first heard this
Some guy you're not familiar with just yet aaaaaaa memoriesss
And somewhere in Vegas 12/1 - left coasters don't miss out!
I love this song
wow.. this makes me think of smart people. i've been in the same place to bury state 4 2 long
just genial...
Actually sounds a lot like The Cure's non-poppy stuff. I like this a lot.
Great song! rmber me a forest of the cure
Indie as Fuck!
I totally agree. This is almost exactly like JAMC's "In a Hole"...
One day A Place To Bury Strangers will bring the whole matrix down, and we will all live naturally again ............................. without a (proper) place to bury strangers ... :(
FUCK YEAH FUCK YEAH MORE PLEASE.

I can't remember who exactly, but some members of APTBS were in Skywave
Listen The Vandelles, they kick ass too
Just saw these blokes on 13 June at the Westword Music Fest, and I must say that they are a reminder of Joy Division. They have their own sound; I can clearly see them going somewhere.
not really my kind of music but they have a cool, original sound. i have to give them that!
Don't take my hand, cause I take it away
And I take everything just take it away
I can't feel my head as it slips away
My hands touch the ground, but I'm not safe
I just couldn't wait to see you again
I just couldn't wait to see you again
See you again!
their best song and best vid. wish it wasn't the case.

you only have to see the video effect on this video that reminds of Unknown Pleasurs' cover :)
Sooo fuckin epic its so simple but also brillant
beautifully done song. ackmann just is one of those amazing guitarist that find that perfect sound for their music. What genre is this considered?
this song was on the movie open house
Fucking love this song.
If this is Noise/Nugaze, then why is the percussion so damned funky and hi tempo?
Its like blue Monday but drowned in reverb with guitars
I want this song... now! where.... ? uff :(
CLASSICOLLECTION

crank it up !!!!
Not really Joy Division. The drums are programmed which i guess is like Automatic-era JAMC or New Order. That bass is totally Peter Hook/ Early-The Cure too.
This band is really awesome, its a combination of joy division a the cure with influences from bauhaus and sonic youth
@Canada2332
lots of layers of guitars, delay fuzz flanger... wall of sound, but the songs stay pretty poppy, with mostly vocals mixed very quietly.
these guys are so in debt to my bloody valentine its not even funny
I didnt even notice the thumbs, please disregard them, I actually really like the song. Comparing it to the cure was
meant as big a compliment.
