- It may look like a load of mud and rocks, but the banks of the River Thames offer a unique insight into London’s history.
The Thames Discovery Programme is a community group run by the Museum of London Archaeology.
It has been set up to let city dwellers discover more about what they call “London's Lost Waterways”.
This week the group has been exploring the bankside next to Shakespeare’s Globe. - Развлечения

The river looks so shallow when the tide is out
At high tide at London Bridge, it is between 5-7 metres deep. The bed is a gradual concave shape making the river shallow on the banks at low tide
It`s pretty shallow even in the middle, only about 10ft at low tide I think.
I’d help if I was a Londoner. Hell, I don’t even live in Europe.
Interesting. Thank you.
I wonder why there are no water taxis/busses on the Thames? Most of the European cities on rivers have them.
There are some on the Thames already.
@@mjh5437 unless it's changed from when we lived in Woolwich 30 years ago there's only a fraction of what other cities have. I know there were a few ferries but I don't remember any water taxis.
@@jimfrodsham7938 There is now an Uber boat service that can take you all the way from the Thames barrier to Putney with tickets usually under £10 depending on distance. In east London it can be a very efficient way of getting across the river! They also have a coffee and snack bar and provide a frequent reliable service.
@@michallyson8922 That's interesting to hear Michael, though sadly we're unlikely to live in or visit London again.
>bronze age
>older than I am
My fishing rod
Why is the water so much higher now?
Time of year and it's controlled by Thames Barrier, look up Thames depth gauges to get an idea of how much it varies and where.
The Tide was out obviously lol
I don’t need to watch the video to know what lies beneath the river. It’s the river bed.
Bill Harmon Ayyyyyy
Maybe a clay pipe!
