My better half and I went to Pisgah Inn last weekend and sat out on the porch and used the canteen cook kit to make several runs of hot cocoa while we watched the moon on the mountains. I really liked the kit, and that carry pouch is the best , the whole kit is just outstanding. Thank you for such an excellent product.
Horse tail (snake grass) grows around water in most areas in the USA. Great for cleaning the gear after cooking. The silica in it can also be used to polish wood and such other woods crafting. Also is edible and medicinal. Great series Dave.
Dave, I hardly miss Dual Survival. I was with you when you started here on RUclips. I appreciate the intimacy, and full disclosure that you share with us, the loyal tribe. Your approach to teaching/learning, and rediscovering these skills is paramount to anything else in this day and age. Your devotion to the craft, and re-invention of the tools, shows your respect for people, and the wilderness . You truly are a modern day Pathfinder, leading the Techno-Lithic Age. Thank you so much! Respect.
You have too many vids, Dave I can't keep up! It just shows that you are solid in what you do. Thank you for that! I'm glad that you are helping by not only teaching but also developing products that don't fall apart in a week outdoors!!
Great video Dave. Thanks. One thing I always carry is a fold up shovel(entrenching tool). This item has many uses. When I build a small fire i dig a hole about 3-4 inches deep 10-12 inches wide. And when I am ready to leave i let everything burn up and put water on it. Then for added safety of a flare up from smoldering coals I use the dirt to smother the coals.
This is exactly the set I've been looking for. Gonna be a must for my kit. Thanks for putting in the time to develop this and all the things you've been part of.
Thanks for the video Dave. I appreciate you showing that you put the fire out. I was out on a scout here in the mountains of Colorado in February and found a fire still smoldering at someone's camp a little off trail. I couldn't believe it especially out here where it's so dry. Thanks again Dave for all you do and continued blessings.
Its funny i went to puerto rico at 19 with some camping stuff. Aka a couples small pans. Tried cookin beans and rice only made a teeny fire thought it would cook. Made some pre bubbles thats it. I ate a bit of hard rice and uncooked dry beans. Drank river water getting thirsty finally after nights out in a jean jacket on a rock discovered a tarp and a blanket at a store. Best night ever after that and several nights. It gets cold at night even in the tropics waiting hours for the sun to come back up. Spent an accidental night out like that in just my clothes in Hawaii once too. Took the wrong last bus. Yeah live and learn. I did find a clean stream off a mountain later before i came back home. Was good water tasted good and clear. Decades before youtube and camping education like this. Good stuff. I boil and cook and sleep outdoors just fine now. Learn a lot with daves and a couple other vids but especially daves vids. Thanks Dave! Learn a lot!
Dave I'm a vet living on there pay so I will have to save to afford the new canteen but u better believe I'm gunna get me one. Been wanting a large mouth round bottle but haven't seen one yet,so forget it I'm saveing for the new canteen . Thanks for halping getting it available to us. I enjoy all your videos and if I can ever get the Dr. to ever let go of me long enough I hope to come visit. Take care urself and family. GOD Bless U All !!
Oh cool, thanks Dave. I'm ordering the SS canteen kit now. I hope I am early enough to get one of these. I especially liked how you pointed out that one doesn't have to build a fire only "inside" or under the stove. just push some coals under it! Rice and sausage and eggs with cheddar cheese is good for breakfast try it! best of luck to the pathfinder&family thanks dave
Not to take away from Dave's business, but a common man's way to mount a bedroll is to use a couple of kid's belts. They work great to wrap around a bedroll and if you have some D-rings or Molle straps you can run the belt through that to hold the bedroll to the bag. I did this myself with a couple nice leather kids belts with brass buckle & pin. It works & looks great!
A ranger band would seal that sausage very well. I love how you are making "proper" food. It does not take much seasoning and drying to have some great meal making capabilities in the woods.
there are soup bases available (different from boulion cubes) in one pound containers that will make about 100 cups of soup where a teaspoonful makes 8 ounces of soup liquid when added to hot water. they come in all different flavors. beef, hambone ect. just add dried veggies and/or meat. soup base has fat content for cold weather warmth. a dollar bag (1 pound) package of frozen veggies put into a dehydrator will make several soup veggie packets for cheap.
I'm saving up money this year in order go on a shopping spree at the end of the year at pathfinders, all of your products are solid and high quality. You guys should always be the #1 pick for people who want serious survival gear. Just need some more money to buy a full kit. Go big or go home. :D
Yeah I want this canteen. I'm about to go back to the Ozark Highlands for 6 more months. I've been on trips like this before. This canteen is something I've always envisioned and wanted and never had access to. $80 for a for a solid, practical product that supports the business of these men. That's a win guys. You want to have good stuff available you have to pay sometimes and support the small business that puts it out. I hope I can snag one. I've only got til April before I head out. :(
just pre-ordered a kit....my son spent his hard earned paracord profit money on it and made a very wise choice imo...what a great looking kit!...thanks Dave!!!!
Hi, I have got the canteen set and was about to post a bad review on your site about the pack stove. However having just watched your video I now realise that I was using it wrong. Thank you for a really useful video, I cant wait to get out there and try again.
Great vid brother. Enjoyed it alot. Thanks for taking us along. I am definitely going to get a the canteen cook set. looks great and very servicable. Take care my friend...Rod
Carrying options, tucked straps inside webbing, add d-rings. Use belt snap key ring holder by uncle Mike, snap on and off super easy and can attach to web gear easier.Great kit all around
I like it and I'm sure it is a very good system. It does seem a little pricey but everyone knows you get what you pay for and I'm sure for that price you will back its durability 100%. I can't swing it now but certainly it is something worth saving for.
Here's some criticism, stop making me so hungry, thanks for all you do brother, I'll be picking up one of these canteens asap, looks a bulletproof one time purchase. Keep it up man. -Steve
I have the same concern here, some filters BTW do filter some chemicals , I am going filter and boil myself, or filter and treat if I can not boil, I like the life straw for a quick drink it really gets great reviews and is cheap. Boiling in summer has a long cool down if you are on the move.
nice video Dave! this video did us think to a scout we did 2 weeks ago in our local forest. the tip on the dirt from the creek to whipe of any residue will come in handy. greetings from Belgium!...LLOutdoor
I appreciate the fact you showed ground prep. Looks to be a good kit, I guess I pack in water a lot more that you guys, I would carry a day or two with me, and rarely drink open water, Seems the water around here has ag run off, boiling does not get rid of all the toxic stuff. And its hard to tell if water has a chem dump in it...have to get in woods deep to find any thing even half way worth boiling this area.
Amen brother, most veg mixes dont! Red mill has some decent mixes for camp I've found, and I have found them at big lots for cheap. Good common man food.
Your videos always give me new ideas. I'll tell you what though -30C there is no compromise. I would love to see you do a Pathfinding in Northern Alberta video! (a challenge indeed). Anyway, keep up the great work. Keep your stick on the ice.
Just unboxed this piece of critical kit. My CONTAINER requirement is now covered, in spades. Carry water ... Boil Water ... Cook Food ... Durable, Compact, Versatile. Just do this. Large capacity is equal to the ~40oz Klean Kanteen and Glacier Cup which this new kit replaces. A significant upgrade which provides more options and uses. Integrates well with my MOLLE packs. Low drag. "Bullet-Proof", as Dave would say.
Ok I know I talked to you earlier today I finally got to see the canteen kit in action and I'm so going to order this kit as soon as I get some ot built up and I'm trying to find a good bow as well before season hits again great video and I really got to get more dirt time in...
Finer than FROG HAIR LOL hell yeah dave. PLEASE MAKE MORE COOKING VIDEOS. I really enjoy them. and the trapping, shelter building etc and especially archery stuff. God bless brotha!
Black canteen is best, adds character. That lid you got there is a better signal mirror anyway. Multipurpose, right mate? Grabbing myself one of these as soon as I'm able. good stuff
You can coat your metal with alil dish soap before you put it on the fire and it should help with the removal of the soot and resin. Lil sumthin i learned from my scout master back in the day. Also I would love that canteen set if it was a lil more affordable.
nice set up, I dont know why but I just love my Bottle Cooking Kit. But I do love the lager container option here. would love to see a larger nesting cup for the other style though. Great product, gonna order another bottle but may think about this one. Benifits?
I love the way you love your food on your channel. :) Great job. I'm thinking a camping/survival segment on the Food Network. :) No one is more enthusiastic that you about their food. Great video! Thanks.
Good video Dave - I'm thinking about getting this kit because it seems like it would fit better in my pack verses Guyout design bottle and cup. Quick question though - around here there are a lot of farms - which translates to the wide spread use of fertilizers on their fields making it's way into the water system. These chemicals can't be boiled or filtered away like pathogens can. Does this ever concern you?
This is a very nice product and I can tell a lot of thought went into the design. My question is why did you put a rim on the middle of the canteen? I imagine it provides additional support but could also increase the chance the bottle will catch on something. Just curious about the reasoning behind this feature.
Dave, just curious about something... I know in earlier videos about creating a common man kit you painted the stainless steel with heat resistant paint. Is that something that you would do with this new kit or is there a difference for not needing it with this? Thanks for all the great information. I appreciate it.
Love this piece of kit, man. Any plans for a stainless steel lid for the canteen and butterfly handles for the cup? These tweaks would make this product 100% perfect in my opinion, as it stands It's an almost perfect set but I have broken the lid and had to replace it twice and I still find the handle a little awkward but that aside still a great bit of kit. Love the pathfinder kettle too, a deeper strainer would've been appreciated, but still, a great product for the money. Keep up the good work, Dave, the folding skillet and lid is my next purchase. Cheers
Love the kit and vid. Questions: 1-Is there a reason, I may have missed, this combo comes with a thinner metal stove than the stove with the nalgene canteen kit? 2- Will your site's store offer a package deal that includes the heavy cup lid and the Duluth bag? 3- Does Rob offer a discount or upgrade if we order from him and lastly is there a "PATHFINDER" code on his site, like others you work with? Keep em comin bro, great stuff!
Hi dave I know you say you use your stove when having a camp fire as a plinth to allow for better convection, however could you also make feather sticks to burn inside the stove. Basically the same way as you say you would use hexi block or alcohol. Until the fire gets established. Thanks for the great videos and fantastic products.
I bought the cup kit a while back and I'm trying to figure out why this canteen set is something I should buy. The bottle is 32 ounce which is perfect. Stainless steel. The cup is stainless steel and the bottle fits just right into it. The cylinder shape fire stove is fine. The bottle has a wide mouth. About the only thing I see better with this kit is better stove and a lid. More capacity isn't really better because when I take measurements for things I have to think 39 ounces not 32.
My little scout wanted to know why you didn't use your common man's skinning knife to cut the sausage ? The canteen is a keeper/ thanks for the follow-up demo.
DEAR SUBS and Friends : VERY PLEASED ! ... Just received my new "Gen2" Pathfinder/CanteenShop SS Canteen Kit ... Includes 39 oz SS Canteen, SS Cook Cup, Stove Stand/Grill-Top and Coyote MOLLE Canteen Kit Pouch. Durable, Compact, Versatile, Flexible ... Not too heavy for a durable 5Cs core component. Spendy but this kit is totally worth the outlay. I expect that I will never regret this purchase and I cannot imaging a more completely adequate kit to cover these critical needs. CONTAINER !!
Great looking kit....just one question, do you prefer the cup with the wing type handles or the under-fold style like in this kit? I currently have both and am looking to shed some weight from my pack.
Great video Dave and I have a couple of questions. 1) How does the lip of your canteen become disinfected? Does the canteen heating up disinfect it much like burning/heating a needle? 2) How would you disinfect your lid if you wished to carry water that you have disinfected? That is, if you collected stream water and closed the lid to carry it back to your fire as you did at 2:35. Thanks!
wish i knew about this new kit a month ago, before i paid for my crusader set. no big deal really, since i like my bcb crusader set with osprey bottle and cup! ;)
From the store : Kit Includes: 1 - 39oz. Stainless Steel Canteen 1 - 25oz Stainless Steel Cup 1 - Stove (Designed by Robert Simpson of TheCanteenShop com) So the carry case is not included? the molly pouch or what its called.
Dave awesome product I will be ordering it shortly I already have the 32oz and cup and love and use the Hell out of them but I'm hoping to take your basic class in July and I watched your equipment video again and seen you want us to make char cloth in it but my question is this can you make char cloth with this canteen and cup too?
Dave, can you tell me one thing : when you carry your canteen over the shoulder, how do you prevent it from wobbling around? Thanks for this vid by the way. Good old fashioned outdoors one!!
How did you attach the bedroll to the Scout pack? Is it just tied to the straps of the pack? BTW, another essential part of the cook kit, for me, is bullion cubes. They add a lot of flavor and salt, so I don't blow out my electrolytes.
SWEET KIT! and as always, very welled reviewed, explained and demonstrated... planned on getting the nested cook set with the molle bottle holder and 25 oz mug for me and my girl. Can anyone elaborate on the benefits of having this canteen kit vs the pathfinder bottle kit?
Dave, are you familiar with the Swiss Army Volcano Stove/Cup/Bottle set? It's works great for just the type of quick lunch in this video, especially in areas where fuel is limited or where there is a fire danger from a regular campfire. (Not a big problem in the Eastern Woodlands, but it is out west.) The problems are that the source has dried up & the aluminum bottle with its cork stopper is crap. A similarly designed stove to go with you Pathfinder Bottle & Cup set would be pretty awesome!
Dave, if you dip your cup into the stream, how does that surface get 'clean' while you are boiling the water? Does the heat from the fire kill off all germs on the lip/surface of the cup? Thanks!
Dave, first off great video and awesome new product. My question is about the leather pouch on your belt. Where can I get one similar and what do you carry in it? Thanks and keep up the good work!
just ordered mine big man. ill put it through the paces next weekend on a three day trip. nice bed roll too. what do you have wrapped around your blanket?
My better half and I went to Pisgah Inn last weekend and sat out on the porch and used the canteen cook kit to make several runs of hot cocoa while we watched the moon on the mountains. I really liked the kit, and that carry pouch is the best , the whole kit is just outstanding. Thank you for such an excellent product.

Just got mine. Thanks for getting them on the site so fast! Can't wait to check it out!
Looking forward to hearing about that. Think I see what it is, and it's going to be a very useful piece of kit to have.

I think it looks good, wish I had one for my kit. That stove / stand is a nice touch.

i love these vids when you cook chow. whether in the woods, in the yurt, wherever, its always awesome lol cant wait to get the new canteen kit!
Dehydrated soup greens. That's a great idea because it can be home made or store bought. Thanks for the info.
Dave, you sir are a legend, 'finer than frog hair'...love it
Thank you Dave. I've been following you and your videos for a while now. Great info, great products (I have bought a few for my B.O.B). Thanks again
Thanks for another adventure Dave and great new product
Amen brother, most veg mixes dont! Red mill has some decent mixes for camp I've found, and I have found them at big lots for cheap. Good common man food.
That thing looks awesome. I'll have to order one up soon. Thanks for the quick review and refresher tips. Good stuff sir.
Your videos always give me new ideas. I'll tell you what though -30C there is no compromise. I would love to see you do a Pathfinding in Northern Alberta video! (a challenge indeed).
Anyway, keep up the great work. Keep your stick on the ice.
Love the videos Brother, wish you were still on tv.
The best way to introduce a new piece of gear is by using it! Thanks!
Low drag. "Bullet-Proof", as Dave would say.
thanks dave! I miss the old cooking tips and tricks videos :)
GREAT HANDLE ON THAT CUP! LOOKS LIKE THE BEST SET UP I HAVE SEEN!
~DAVE
Awesome price amigo. I plan on ordering one when they come readily available.
Ok I know I talked to you earlier today I finally got to see the canteen kit in action and I'm so going to order this kit as soon as I get some ot built up and I'm trying to find a good bow as well before season hits again great video and I really got to get more dirt time in...
Your canteens got some character to it now with all that discoloration. Nice.
Finer than FROG HAIR LOL hell yeah dave. PLEASE MAKE MORE COOKING VIDEOS. I really enjoy them. and the trapping, shelter building etc and especially archery stuff. God bless brotha!
You sir, are a wealth of knowledge. Great video
Thanks.
Man Dave that looked great! I'm starving now! I really like that Canteen! Looks real bullet proof! God Bless Brother!

I like that wide mouth, I use the old metal G.I canteen but yours is a great improvement.

Thanx Dave I waited a long time for the Stainless Canteen. Great.
Love the kit and vid. Questions:

you should bring back on the waters edge in spring.
Hi dave I know you say you use your stove when having a camp fire as a plinth to allow for better convection, however could you also make feather sticks to burn inside the stove. Basically the same way as you say you would use hexi block or alcohol. Until the fire gets established. Thanks for the great videos and fantastic products.

always great to see you dave, great video, made me hungry, take care and stay safe
It is very nice, and the lid and carry bag also. The price though seems outrageous.
My little scout wanted to know why you didn't use your common man's skinning knife to cut the sausage ?
The canteen is a keeper/ thanks for the follow-up demo.
Just awesome. :) I`m so relaxed now. Thank you, Dave.

no big deal really, since i like my bcb crusader set with osprey bottle and cup! ;)
Great videos! Why did you use the high temp Rustoleum paint on your SS pot and water bottle in one video, but not on this one?
When will the Duluth Cover be available at the Pathfinder Store???? That set up is very Cool!
@wildernessoutfitters get it done boss! Rebecca is working on my blanket as we speak! thanks for all of your hard work!
From the store : Kit Includes:
1 - 39oz. Stainless Steel Canteen
1 - 25oz Stainless Steel Cup
1 - Stove (Designed by Robert Simpson of TheCanteenShop com)
So the carry case is not included? the molly pouch or what its called.
I thank you sir David and greets from Belgium Hasselt, we love you video
Have you ever collected maple sap for syrup?Awesome setup.
Dave, if you dip your cup into the stream, how does that surface get 'clean' while you are boiling the water? Does the heat from the fire kill off all germs on the lip/surface of the cup? Thanks!
just got my kit, love it i wish i had the Canteen Pouch but u guy didnt have in stock
Finer than frog's hair! Lol! Canteen is a must have. Will be getting mine soon. Thanks Dave.
Dave what happened to Derek and Jim? Is the cabin series over? Could you try to smith a trivet pot stand, or spider like our forefathers used.
Great video!
I'm wondering why a flap for the top of the canteen wasn't included? I don't imagine that it would cost much?
i agree i want it too@Duncan Wood
yup, i like that kit!
Dave, first off great video and awesome new product. My question is about the leather pouch on your belt. Where can I get one similar and what do you carry in it? Thanks and keep up the good work!
This guy was a soldier! His a survival machine
throw a little arrowroot or flour in the kit to thicken up the meal!
So much good info. Thanks Dave
Excellent!! Summer Sausage is great fried as well!
just ordered mine big man. ill put it through the paces next weekend on a three day trip. nice bed roll too. what do you have wrapped around your blanket?
Okay so the summer sausage will be good for a weekend hike/camp without refrigeration?
Awesome video dave. Thanks for the upload!
