- This is me playing through the final level. I start from a continue, so I have no weapon until the end of the level. The eggplant segment is very annoying, but grabbing that hidden item as the eggplant leaves can get you out of that jam.

It is astounding that you finished this level at all, let alone without a weapon! This was undoubtedly one of the hardest NES games ever. And what an anticlimactic ending for everything you went through in this game!
Wow. Exactly. After all the years and tears I’ve lost to this game, never beating it, I figured my frustration would have been rewarded with a parade or a million dollars. That ending was pitiful. Can’t believe I waited 35 years for that.

This level can be tricky, but 8-3 for me was the biggest challange. That last part of the level where you have to jump through these falling platforms while killing the bats in the process was insanely hard. It took me about 55 continues to get through that part, but it was so worth it when I reached that Goal sign at the end. I think Adventure Island 1 is the hardest game on the NES. And I have beaten games like Ghost "N" Goblins, Ninja Gaiden 1, Castlevenia 1 and 3, and Mega Man 1.
so don't you ever try to play nowadays really hard games like tomb raider, dead space, outlast etc :D

Is there a level skip code for this game? I don't mean game genie, I mean something you can punch into your controller (like Adventure Island 2 and 3 both have).

Actually, it is possible to trickjump to avoid hitting the egg. I know three trickjumps, but one is almost hard, the second one hard, and the third one very hard, near-impossible.
It's hard to put it to words, but basically the easiest one goes like this: walk (!) towards the first pair, but you want to make a small jump over the lower spider so you have to release the forward button a split second before making the jump. Because after you release the forward button Higgins will move by inertia for a split second, but as you jump he will not jump high.
The harder version goes like this: trigger the first upper spider and when it's going up, run and then jump in-between it and his lower brother, aiming for the space in-between the second pair. And when you're about to reach the upper spider in the second pair - release the forward button for a split second, that way you're kind of hitting the brakes, slowing your speed by just a liiiiittle bit. That way you should land in the safe area between the 2nd and 3rd pairs of spiders.
The hardest version is to do almost the same as above, only you have to make full-stop mid-air about 2/3 into the area with the egg. It is, however, extremely hard to control where you land there.
That said, the final jump, the one everyone is afraid of, is actually not that difficult - the trick is to not jump over the upper spider but in-between the pair as the upper one is going up, it's quite easy ;)

Yes! Just reprising the most difficult shit level in the game, adding even MORE hazards!

Played this game in childhood. Long lasting wish to end this game.finally came through google play store download. Unlimited life makes thing easy but i bow to those people who played without any cheating and still ended this game. One of the hardest game in video game history. After 6th stage difficulty level increases at insane level and 8-2 and 8-3 are very hard.
What does the eggplant do?
It makes your health bar decrease faster, up until a few health bar left

What does the eggplant do? Its tasty sp wh
It drains the energy that you collect from the fruits and veggies. You can see the bars on the top middle of the screen. When the bars hit zero, you die out of lack of energy from starvation.

I was playing this game on a cheap atari and had a broken cratridge (at least I was thinking it is broken, now that I see this video maybe the game just had a cheat code or something). I had endless life for every game, there was an apple picture where there should be the live count. But still couldn't finish the game bcs I was pretty sure I passed this level and thinking like maybe the 10th level is the and but it wasn't. The game just kept going and getting harder and harder and I stopped playing after some time, understanding that I have no chance of finishing the game.

Man! I had to use an emulator and use save states to kill that fuckin bat at jump on round 8 - 3. This is a great funny game, but some parts are ridiculously difficult

If we die at the or after the respawn point(ie- the boards with numbers on them) you respawn at the exact point.

as i 13 yr old kid i managed to get on 8-3 (without cheats/walkthroughs) & that was bloody headache for a day ,My hands were totally fucked up
just started again but with emulator with save slot finally completed this brutal shit
Finished it without cheats/WT and no continues at the same age. Now I can't believe it. I must have had fire weapon in the last stages otherwise it's impossible especially 8-2 without fire weapon.
