    Success from a planning, Logistic and construction point of view, but the first few days after opening were a total nightmare, good job there is a massive amount of space up in the departures area of the Terminal (needed when they once again hit problems, a great 5 star lesson this

    Brilliant presentation. I think the technique the car industry used to control supply was Kanban, but I may be wrong.

      Kanban was the system of logistics to support common tools, PPE ad other consumables.
      The software system that was used for the logistics of the works etc. was called ProjectFlow, essentially it was an online planning database utiliing the principles of last planner methodology. Essentially every construction activity had a 3 day lead in window that we would continually update each day. Effectively are we still going to achieve the planned next three days of work (based on what we have completed today.
      To each of the construction activiites the material resource was applied (reinforcement, concrete, piece/ part numbers for steel, mechanical, electrical equipment and so on for FFE and offsite fabricaated components).
      It meant that the logistitcs centres could maintain about 5 days of materials, but every activity and string of activities would have quantities of materials identified so that holistically we understand the volume of goods required across the programme.

    T5 would have been a massive success if only LHR and BA had gone for soft opening, more rigorous testing as happened with Terminal 2.

      The opening was.a disaster because the original opening was lbrought forward 10 weeks. Unfortunately it meant the the 6 weeks of training the operational staff was lost and some staff in BA only has a week to transiation and learn the new oprational systems. In terms of the baggage systems much of it was automated, but again the BAA staff received limited training.
      I think that the original opening date had been maintained then it would have been considered a success.

    En este megaproyecto es de reconocer lao aciertos en las fases de la planificación, análisis de variables en los diferentes módulos de construcción, interrelación entre los subsistemas de diseños, evaluación de costos, predictibilidad de funcionamiento con el sistema de proveedores en todos los nivelses, hasta predecir fechas de entrega, así que no se entiende como fue ese fracaso, ese pandemónium el dia de la inauguración con los pasajeros, si sistema de check in, los aparcaderos, las maletas, erc..uno se pregunta si no hubo replanteamientos al interior del proyecto, admitiendo que algo podría salir tan mal que generaría una crisis en cadena, fue acaso un exceso de confianza porque creían tener previstas todos los factores internos y exógenos que podrían perturbar el proyecto y generar desconfianza en la capacidad de gestion de los planificadores británicos de proyectos, no aprendieron entonces de experiencias pasadas?
