Trading My PRICELESS 67 Camaro For A C8 Corvette

- I've been looking for the car to replace my 1967 Chevy Camaro SS for a bit now and just finished servicing it from top to bottom. I decided I wanted a C8 but I haven't spend any time in a base model, so today we're reviewing the current Corvette. Let's see what the cheapest sports car on the road delivers!
Buy this C8 before I get the Camaro sold: sullivanautoho...

You can tell he doesn’t own it yet. Since he hasn’t put on jean shorts, New Balance shoes and told everyone what specific blue it is and exactly how many exist.
😂😂😂😂😂
So true.
lol! You nailed it! Yucatán shirt, is a bonus!
Omg I laughed out loud.
Ha! I bought a 1975 C3 and my sister then bought me no kidding, new balance shoes, my wife bought me a Vette jacket, but then she threw out my Jorts… and, I have angst since the car is in primer… but it’s Red Oxide primer! And 38,465 were made. 😂😅😊
@@lancenutter1067 that’s hilarious!
I'm a huge Corvette guy, I just can't get that fired up about C8's. If they had a manual and a more utilitarian/simple interior i think it would go along way for me. If they had done it older Ferrari style on the interior with the open dash center consule area instead of the huge wall of buttons...with a slick stick shift set up, would have been amazing.
I bought my 67 SS 350 Camaro convertible in May 1975, and served in the USCG during the 70s! The back seat has used very often! I have personally maintained it and it still has original drive train, ball joints and drive shaft! Most of the normal wear parts have been replaced(had to replace original radiator last year) The Camaro is a 4 speed Muncie, with 4.11 posi and it is quick! My 87 Grand National(bought new with 12 miles on it) and the Camaro run neck in neck! Although my 68 Mercury Cougar with 428 Cobra Jet is probably a little quicker! The ram air and C6 really work well together! Although the C8 is really special(wish I could afford 1) , I would not trade it for the 67!
My brother had a 71 Corvette when we were much younger living in Alaska. When his girlfriend bought it for him it was in primer he was a paint and body man all his life we painted it this same color we called it ALASKA CAB BLUE. All the cabs back then were obnoxious blue.
I have a 2015 adrenaline red GTS viper with only 28.k . I'm thinking about selling for a C.8 Z06 or the ZR1 🤔💯. That first Gen camaro is one of my favs. The C.8 is a masterpiece IMO 🔥🚘🔥🎬👍🫡
The reason I bought my Challenger, old cars have old car problems. I want to drive it, not work on it on the weekends unless I want to.
Displacement on demand has never worked on any engine. All the other companies that have similar systems all have engine failures due to that crappy system. It's so stupid when you consider that the gas mileage improvement is really TINY. The value of performance per dollar spent is WAY, WAY more than another other car.
Government regulations play a part i i think
nice Groovy Hoovie impression 😂
GM V-8 with cylinder deactivation? No bueno!
It is a very nice car. It's more comfortable to cruise in than anything else I've been in. The car is quick and will do whatever you want how fast you want. The 0-60 launch in crazy as well. The only thing it misses is a bit of personality. I had a scat before, and it would make so much noise and spin at lights which made it fun and gave it a strong sense of power. The corvette is a lot more reserved, and you won't hear the engine really loud unless you floor it which will make you go very fast lol. It will also get a lot of attention. I love mine though. The car is iconic.
They hit it out of the park with the C8! I was never a GM fan (more a Ford guy) until these came out. It will hang with the European supercars for only a fraction of the price. I want one so bad!
Congratulations on the C8! People won't understand the difference until they actually own a "rattle trap" 1967 Camaro, regardless of the money spend restoring it.
Yeah unless you spend $250k and put it on a chassis it’s not a great car 💯
Check the build codes to make sure it actually has Z51. The brake calipers should say “Z51,” but I didn’t see it. It also doesn’t have the spoiler or lip that almost every Z51 has. EDIT: I just saw the window sticker you showed. It has performance exhaust as a standalone option, which means it’s NOT Z51, since PE is part of Z51. The crooked stitching in the C8s drives me crazy. You could really see it on the section on the dash to the left of the steering wheel.
Yeah that's definitely not a Z51.
Z51 comes with Pilot Sport 4s tires too. Not all seasons.
Definitely not a Z51 car.
Very sweet! I hope you’ll do a video on the paint correction if you get it. Surprising that hasn’t been fixed by now.
Spitout my coffee when he did the Hoovies voice "RIPTIDE BLUEEEE"
Mine's a '24, same exterior color. 2LT trim, Z51 but with aero delete, mag ride, front lift and the light gray interior. Base wheels, no appearance items. The summer-only tires on the Z51 are really good and they will give you warning before they break away, you can push the car really hard. Launch mode is fun, but not worth doing every time out. The "subs" for the stereo are in the doors. The dash/systems controls from the driver's seat get kind of in-depth, there's lots to choose from. Remember, trans filter at 7500 and again at 23,500. Fluid drain and fill at 3 years, regardless of low mileage, or there is an upper miles limit, just can't remember what it is. I'd change the engine oil more often than recommended (7,500 miles). AC Delco filters are inexpensive, the eight quarts of Mobil 1 Supercar are not.
My old roommate back in the mid 80's in AZ had a red 67 RS/SS Convertible. Its was a beaut.
You can definitely get the mag-ride on a Z51, and if I were buying a base those would be the two non-negotiable options!
How goes the new house? You left us hanging at 98% complete and moments from moving in
I’ll do a tour soon, there’s still some trim left to do 🍻
@@WatchJRGo yay!

house videos boring compared to car videos
@@bikeman1x11 Thousands disagree.
The difference is the Camaro will increase in value though. This will continue to drop to a $30,000 car in a few years.
The camaro might drop also. It's mass production and the people who like them are getting older.
They’re not gonna increase anymore. They’ve reached their cap.
He's not going to keep it for few years, 6 months tops
@eamon1648 what??? Mass production it's a 69.... ????
Absolutely ZERO chance a c8 will ever hit 30k. Beat to shit base model c7s are still fetching over that. My 2024 c8 I got for 66k with 12k miles is still selling for low 60s.
And any Chevy dealership in the US, and they are in every town of any note, you get a mid-engine Vette if you can get "bought" by the bank.
Personally I would drive the Camaro more. I had a 92 c4 coupe and it was a great car and never let me down but my friends Z28 was always more fun to cruise in.
It’s not really “fun” to drive, it’s work, and I can’t go 200 in it 😂
It's fun in a straight line trying to race something. My old 06 Charger RT is way faster, handles, and stops better than the Dart. I would love to put a modern hemi in the Dart😎
You can always by the Corvette. There are not to many 67 Camaro's left.
man that thing sounds good! I think youd have a ton of fun in a c8. Would love to see what upgrades you do to it. I would make the trade if the money is right.
It is one of the best factory sound systems I have heard.. (I'm a audio/video engineer by trade) And yeah it gets very loud with no breakup.. were talking hearing damage with sustained high level usage. And yes one of the best values for your dollar... it has the looks and the sounds and the speed... We use ours to go grocery shopping.. you can get a full cart in it with room left over.. (cold in the frunk) its very usable as a daily minus the bit higher maintenance regimen.
The c8 is beautiful but doesn’t look like a Z51 car. Normally a z51 it is denoted on the calipers, it would also have a front splitter and a rear spoiler.
Definitely not a Z-51
Came here to say the same thing.
Forget the fugly wing... Keep it as the designers penned it.
Speaking of defects, if you look under each mirror at the right angle you'll see a very faint indent. I think they all have them. Something to do with how the machinery holds the part when its moved around the factory.
I would go C6 in higher trim over C8. Are you ever going to work on your other Camaro? Think I saw you do the engine for LS Fest or soemthing like that, but seems to have sat around gathering dust for years and years. Would be much more interesting to see you build and restore that vs this Camaro that you bought with everything done already.
You realize a Camaro doesn’t have a high revving rear engine right? Wow what a comment smh. And you’re concerned about trim lmao
My 06 Charger RT has dod but not vvt and it sounds like a old truck when it kicks in and still gets crap mpg. Of course I only drive 10 minutes to work so I'm lucky to get over 12 mpg average. It really picks up if you do a long freeway trip at 55-60. It also has 100hp on my Dart or the Crown Vic cop cars everyone loves.
“Priceless” Camaro apparently does have a price.
I own many Classics, including a 69 Camaro RS/SS, C2 Corvette, Air Cooled 911 & I love the thought of owning a new Corvette as well, Z06 specifically. I just can't bring myself to sell a classic, they only go up in value over time, where as a new Corvette will drop like a rock. I pondered this when the C5 came out, now they cost $10k, same deal with the C6, but now they are high teens-low 20s, and I loved the C7, same deal, residual value is dropping like a rock. Where as the classics just keep go up in value. Maybe just lease a C8, and know how much you're throwing away up front.
Never trade a classic.
The reason the engine can sit so low is because it is a dry sump oil system.
I know I'm a dinosaur, but TBH, too much to go wrong. Like my old analogue cars that are cheap and easy to fix.
That's a no brainer trade.
I'd make that trade all day.
It’s definitely Not a Z51 C8.
Watch JR go get a speeding ticket😂😂😂😂
The camero is more like a car show for the weekends rides where the Vette is a everyday driver in my eyes. About the front suspension being always on point I’m wondering if those front cameras even when not being used to record are reading the terrain of the road making adjustments for what’s up ahead. Either way you’ll have a nice ride if you don’t trade. Good Luck!
Camaro
I see it. The newer cars are much much easier to drive than the older cars and the exact performance is much much more precise on the newer cars... I would love to see a comparison between this model Corvette and I believe it was the R8 Audi that you had type of car to see which does better since they were both mid-engine.
Enjoy!!!!!
Sorry about the c8. Poor vintage camaro
This car is the best value to power ratio. 2023 Ford Mustang Dark Horse has a starting price of $60,865, which includes a $1,595 destination fee. However, prices for new models can range from $62,230 to $92,890. And that top prices for 800 horsepower. I will always keep watching your channel
@@rogercollins2653 I REALLY want a dark horse too but they’ll depreciate more 😬
4:50 Uncanny! 😆For a moment there, I thought you dubbed Tyler's voice over the top..
C8 is a more usable vehicle than the overpowered Camaro.
That paragon performance exhaust is awesome. If you ever want to get rid of it let me know lol! I just got a 2021 3LT Z51 in elkheart lake blue metallic HTC.
Wow. The PT Cruiser polished up well!!
@@rogermaybank9345 LMAO, total transformation!
I know it is a better drive and more practical. But I don't think I could give up the Camaro.
I’ve got a Silverado that I just drive in 7th gear to eliminate the v4 mode. Only time I allow 8th is freeway speeds over 65. I will say that gas mileage is great on the freeway typically 24.5 on freeway in a truck that weighs 5600lbs.
Very unpopular to say, but it does share many similarities with my 2019 accord.
All it needs is a Procharger, DOD delete with Cam, and maybe a brake upgrade
Seen one just like it in the Chevy dealership when I took my Impala in for service. Nice car. I'm not a Vette guy. I asked why it was in service. Guy told me paint correction. That explained the pieces of tape all over it. Came from the factory with a crappy paint job.
ZTK wing + center exhaust would be sick.
I have two older classics and they are fun to own but really not great to drive.
🧢
It doesn't look like Hoovie's Riptide Blue because it is not Riptide Blue. C8 has been available in at least 3 or 4 blues. That appears to be the slightly more rare premium color Rapid Blue, code GMO. At least that is what it looks like on video.
house update?
excited to see how the 110 inch TV is looking in a finished room.
Most people that build a 1st gen camaro dont change the sub frames . They are always bent and so is the body mounts . Just like the fox body mustangs. We would take the fox and camaro police cars apart and find the frame boxes either broken or bent. But the best things we did was put the drive train in 40s through early 60s cars and trucks . This was in the 80's. Now its to expensive to do this .20 to 30 thousand for a wreck.
@@craigcarlson627 gotta put the old cars on a chassis… they’re made like a pop can 😂
I've seen so many people go through this and end up dumping the "new" car for a loss so they get back into a car with character.
No! Oh God no!
lower it and sway bars, track alignment ,,,,headers and exhaust is a nice bonus
For reasons, my dad had a very, very early build of the c8 just before c19 shut everything down... To this day, I still believe that it's truly a car america should be proud of. Oh and as for the so called ford gt, what an absolute embarrassment.
I got the 2024 1LT with zero options and have no regrets. My c5 was max loaded and I never used any of the stuff.
Well the only thing I would want in the 2lt is the front camera but my spidey sense is getting better after cracking 4 front splitters. Paragon performance makes wide mirror glass to help with blind spots.
You get so much car for 66k tho. I lowered mine and inch and put on 20mm spacers which changed the aggressive look of the car.
Traded my 16’ Z06 3LZ with all the options and carbon for a 24’ Z06 1LZ. The only thing I miss is the heated seats and front camera as well.
I would never trade it. Camaro is 10 times the car but it's your choice.
The C8 is an absolute masterpiece. Best sports car ever made. They are very under appreciated now because there are so many out there but it's an absolutely fabulous car at any price.
You are getting an objectively better car.
😂😂😂 nope
@@frankcastle2045 Did you type that with your Commodore 64?
Eventually that Corvette will be $20,000, that Camaro eventually will be $120,000
Dont you still have the RS camaro? If so thats the one you keep and beat up. Trade the nice SS for a c8. Magride though is a game changer.
@@chiefbigpooh I sure do 💯
My thoughts exactly. I think a lot of people on here are unaware he has another 67 Camaro…
Just fell in love with the C8. The cold start sounds so good ❤
The C8 is a really beautiful car - and probably fairly reliable and straightforward to repair. I would really love to own one, but driving it through the narrow streets of Winchester (UK) would be quite a challenge. Many thanks JR for the walk through and I would say buy it!!
The C7 is way better the C8 is hideous
@@frankcastle2045not a chance, people think ferrari every time they see a c8 in public . that is fact because i did myself . its beautiful in person
I believe the first gen viper. Original MSRP was 59,000. That was a V10 and that was nothing compared to this car.
you said you have this Farrai in the garage but you never showed it to me. why are you teasing me. LOL
Tell whoever is selling this car needs to make the deal happen. Tell them King Spud said so. 😂 looking forward to content on this car. I'm not a huge fan of them but they are really cool and really good value for the money.
All those corvettes now look old. But the 67 camaro will still stand clear
I saw a video on RUclips yesterday about how the C8 Corvette is the 2nd most -dangerous- deadliest car in America. You'll never guess in a million years what the #1 most dangerous vehicle is.
With a million years I think I could guess it.
Nissan Altima
@@auzmoPerhaps but I hadn't even heard of the #1 deadliest vehicle in America. It's a Hyundai Venue. They look fairly harmless to me.
@ small, small front end, probably not many safety features, probably most driven by younger drivers (more dangerous drivers and others that maybe arent the most cautious types. They are hyundai so they might have been stolen and wrecked that way a lot. Maybe more popular in areas with more dangerous driving like southern metros with high speed interstates.
I could see it. Im sure its on a per capita basis and i dont think theres a lot of venues out there to balance the stats.
I figured it had to be some sort of short little hatchback type thing. Those have very little protection against the huge vehicles so common today.
Definitely a mustang or hellcat lol
crazy for trading in a 1st Gen Camaro for a C8 but you do you ... same reason I'll never get rid of my '68 Chevelle convertible ... gonna be harder to find as time goes on ...
I like the look of old cars. But I like the power and dive better of newer cars. So if I could get a old body with new chassis that would be best if both worlds.
We have a 2024 c8 with the z51 3lt package at the auction. It has 4000 miles on it if I remember. Red exterior.
As much as I like the Camaro, if you have fun driving a C8, go for it. They are well designed cars.
As a spectator, the 67 Camaro would hold my attention much longer than the C8, but I understand how difficult the Camaro is to drive when you push it. My friend Donnie had multiple high-horsepower classics that were scary to drive and rarely left the garage.
Still can’t believe you can’t get this car with a manual. Damn shame
No, John, the most cost effective car you can own is the '14-'16 Porsche Cayman S. You can get these for around $45k these days, and they have held this value for the past 7 years. That Corvette is going to drop rapidly in value and as to performance versus the 981 Cayman S PDK: The Corvette is in the low 12's in the quarter and the used Cayman at a much lower price is in the mid 12's. 981's have consistently beat Mk 8 Corvettes around the Nurburgring; The later are a bit more squirrely at the limit and the 400 extra pounds of weight is the culprit, along with the fact that the 981 is far more dialed in. The "C8" , a term that I HATE, is a great car, the best thing that GM has ever produced but the styling is busy and it is simply too large.
-That being said, I would have traded that silly old camaro for the Mk 8 Corvette in a heartbeat! The driving experience must be night and day better~
Great video!
Beautiful car. Much more usable than the classic. My favorite corvette color combo. The only thing I’m not crazy about is the blacked out windows.
Weren't you saying you've had nothing but problems with that Camaro, drive it, breaks, fix it, drive it, breaks, fix it, repeat. I'd make the trade but you won't have much content to make with that C8, nothing's broken.
And don't do that ridiculous wing, either. You're not 16 anymore (and neither am I) 😅
C8? Cost effective? The transmission which is prone to failing costs at least 15k to replace! YIKES! I would not buy one without a warranty. 🤔
A guy driving a new C8 is immediately less interesting than the guy in a 67 Camaro.
I wish my car had a painless dent repair button.
My aunt had a g1 Camero and us 5 kids would sit in the back seat.
💯
Congratulations..Enjoy.. They are very fun n powerful...👍
Looks better without the ridiculous wing
Noooooooooooo Keep the Camaro. I ❤ that Car.😅
You called it a Ferrari!
@@Wastedhauler that’s the joke, they look exactly the same
Auto wipers, at least on some of the cars I'e driven are usually accessed through the infotainment.
Get a convertible who wants to bother stopping and getting out of the car to put the top away 🤦♂️ once you fold the top while driving you never ever want to go back.
There has to be a way to program out the cylinder deactivation.
If the Z06 is scary to you, I am surprised the AMG GT is not. My 2019 GTC is absolutely a beast and very similar to 911T or Z06 in performance.
@@jpcii I’ve only driven GT-R Pro on a hot day with Sport Cup 2s on it… I couldn’t break traction no matter how hard I pushed it, it’s a weapon. I’ve been very sideways in the C8Z though 😳
@ years ago I bought a 1989 5.0 Mustang LX 5 speed. My first new car. The short wheelbase made it VERY interesting when the break came. It could be a handful to get back under control. If the road was wet, hold on. Going for a ride.
Absolutely do not trade the Camaro
Are you nuts bro
I Love 60s and early 70s muscle cars ,but i will say this My 2024 2SS 1LE is just better in everyway as far as corvettes go ,Im not the biggest C8 fan ,I would love a Z06 or the upcoming ZR1 but other than that it would be a C7 Z06 /Zr1 for me .very good video btw
Wow I thought the camaro was a keeper well the C8 is very nice 👍
I love this car. I have been debating whether to purchase one. Enjoy!
Each of your videos is a true work of art that brings joy and inspiration!🍧😜😗
Sweet car. Bad trade investment wise. That Camaro won't go down in value. But i totally get wanting to have something you can have more fun with by getting the c8. Do you and have a blast man.
