As World War II erupts, Martin Schulz, a German-American art dealer, returns to Germany and, in a bid to align himself with the prevailing regime, adopts Nazi propaganda ideals. His betrayal is starkly evident when he coldly rejects protecting Griselle Eisenstein, his son Heinrich's Jewish fiancée, who remains in America managing the family business. Despite his calculated loyalty to the Nazis, Martin's allegiance proves fleeting as he soon finds himself ensnared by the Gestapo, becoming another victim of the very regime he embraced.

Or Jeff Chandler who won best actor nomination playing an Indian when only Caucasians were considered for the part and he wore dark face and body makeup.
