  • Join me for a spin around a vast area of Stockton, California looking for the signs of optimism in this poor city that takes an overbearing reputation of being 150% TERRIBLY HORRIFIC from the majority of America / media when I personally believe that % is decently far off.
    We find some enlightening good in the venture but also some heartbreaking terribleness as well. We research the bad side strictly for awareness and to encourage positive change from public and the city. Embrace the contrast with me!
    The video is not for the faint of heart and includes a bit of profanity. Rated R for now. Forgive me for that.. Working on improving these areas as I gain some experience with this RUclips scene.

    Thanks for trying to be positive, but Stockton just isn't a good place. The people who live here who think that it is a good place are mostly criminals who see this town as a safe haven for their illicit activities due to the fact that law enforcement is unresponsive to most things. The students that I know at UOP agree that it is the jewel of the city but are mostly too afraid to leave the campus bubble. Everyone is a victim here, whether it's to the system or each other. Those of us who are trying to make our escape are fighting a steep uphill battle day after day.

      Thanks so much for your response. All legitimate points, the only thing I disagree with is classifying the Stockton population as mostly criminal. There are plenty of good, hard working families there in the agricultural/blue collar industry that are just trying to get by at somewhat of an affordable living by CA standards.

      I was very close to asking a handful of UOP students for an interview while walking the campus. It’s a peculiar situation you guys have studying there. Now I’m even more motivated to talk to someone attending UOP. Would you be interested in doing an interview or know of anyone that would be?

    I grew up there in the 80-90s. Delta College, UOP beautiful. Used to fish all along 8 mile road and the turning basin in the 80s. Grew up in Morada area. The whole area around Brookside and 8 mile were fields. I come back to drive thru sometimes and it saddens me how much blight and homelessness has taken over the area. Used to ride those canal banks as a kid , now instead of water, it's filled with homeless

      Brookside and 8 mile all fields eh?!?! That does make sense though since I had a feeling most of that nice housing looked pretty late 90’s / early 2000’s built. That’s a trip. That’s A TON of land to build on in such a short timeframe.

    I was born in Tracy and had cousins, Aunts, and Uncles in Stockton in the 1950s and 60s. It was completely different back then. Wilson Way used to be Highway 99 before the Freeway was built in 1957. What ruined Stockton was the same that ruined many cities: court ordered school desegregation in the 1960s. That's when white flight kicked in and people moved out in droves.

    • @privateeyetravelguy
      @privateeyetravelguy  7 месяцев назад

      Brutal truth behind one of the many mistakes the city has made over the decades. Thanks for that. Wilson Way used to be a highway huh? Crazy but that does make sense with it being such a monstrously long avenue.

    I’m sorry I live in Stockton. Stockton is exceptionally bad with more ugly looking areas than good. But it’s like the cheapest place to live and still be able to commute to the Bay Area for the higher paying jobs

    • @privateeyetravelguy
      @privateeyetravelguy  8 месяцев назад

      Well stated! Have you noticed any signs of gentrification in the rougher areas with that being said? Most of the job commuters are probably buying in the Morada / Brookside / Northern areas I’d imagine?

    • @holdup583
      @holdup583 8 месяцев назад +1

      @@privateeyetravelguy yes, I would say that’s accurate with commuters settling in the more affluent areas (north western). I know that’s true in my case at least when I moved to Stockton from the Bay Area. I have seen very little gentrification in the south and eastern sides of the city. The home prices are rising but very little construction or services on those sides
