The use of a jar to hold the string is genius! I've watched many tutorials making luminaries, but found them a bit messy when using the mod podge. I'm inclined to attempt to make one now. Thank you for showing an easier way to handle the messy part of it.
This is the BEST instructional video. It's the only one that I have seen that addresses the holes on top and bottom. I can't wait to make my own lamp.
Sure was the easiest way I have seen to make this. Especially the way you put yarn into jar and wrap round balloon. Fantastic. Love this shade..

I have been wanting to make these lamps for quite some time. I have purchased a variety of punching balls and large balloons, Mod Podge to use how you used the wallpaper glue, as well as many different types of twine, string, etc. I have even purchased plaster of Paris and Plaster cloth for these projects, but due to chronic pain have yet to attempt to make any. Your tutorial has given me some great ideas to make my lamp projects easier, as in the jar w the hole to pull out the twine or string already coated in Mod Podge! ;This is a great tutorial and I thank you for sharing it! I am hoping I canapé it today!

thanks for all the info! i am waiting on my yarn light to dry now, taking longer as it has been so humid here. but it got me wondering if it will hold up in heat and humidity? planning on using on my covered deck which is decorated Boho and i know the lamp will look great if it doesn't collapse!Any thoughts/advise on how to make it stronger and heat/humidity resistant? thanks so much!

Your video is one of the best with very easy to follow instructions. Also thanks for the amazon links in description too! But like every other DIY yarn globe video on youtube, it is missing the same exact thing: the very last step! How exactly do you hang this?

Beware, the balloon pops if you wrap the strings too tightly around it...and that was a fun mess to clean up. I will try the balloon again but for now I'm switching to the thick rubber balls in the toy section. The jar (I used a yogurt container) method is super solid though. Great idea.
