i love experimenting so much, it's such a great opportunity to learn something new about a plant, not just from a book or any other source of text information, but observe it with your own eyes, learn with the plant, understand it much better on an intuitional levels. the opportunity of experimenting and learning got me into plants, specifically orchids, herbs, some simple aroids and begonias, it's so fascinating!
i got a monstera plant that was falsely being sold for cheap as a philodendron, but quickly realized it was mislabeled, and very excited to bring a monstera baby into my plant collection:) she's now growing leaves that have the splits in them, and i could not be more excited about it
Just purchased some seeds. I’m trying to different mediums as well. One being stratum & perlite mix and one being spag…. About 8 days in and both seem to have the same about of roots. Can’t wait to see my results!!

This is so cool. I started growing my own monstera seeds not too long ago and yea, the sphagnum moss really does seem to be their favorite. Meanwhile I was also trying to grow succulent seeds, experimenting with different substrates and such. They grew a tiny bit before they all died miserably lmao.
i love your channel because you do exactly what i also love to do with plants: experiments! i never had a monstera deliciosa because i don't care as much abt it and i think they look so much better outside that i rather not have it in my apartment, but i LOVE the baby form of it, i'll definitely try to have one from seed.
i also started growing Md from seeds on April 28 of 2021, and had my first leaf with splits after 9 months (274 days to be exact) the two of them were sowed in aroid mix since day one, and were only repotted to larger pots last december new subscriber from Philippines 🇵🇭

if you layered the substrate, spagnum on top and then the soil and perlite and orchid mix underneath, I wonder if that would work even better. Then the seeds are in the sphagnum Moss until their Roots get long enough and start going into the mix where there's more nutrients.
I can't wait to see the results on planting them in different substrates! I planted mine back in December 2020 and they still don't have splits on their leaves 😅
I'm looking forward to the next update. I just could not keep my MD happy in soil. Maybe bc of my dry climate? It's still in leca but I worry it won't get as big as it would in soil.

I just bought some variegated monstera seeds and I‘m so excited! They might take over a month to arrive but that’s fine, I can use that time to do research and get all the materials I need. Do you think grow lights are necessary or could a sunny window be enough? I‘m trying not to spend too much money on plants, so I wasn‘t going to get a grow light 😅
if you have a nice south facing window that should work. just an fyi vareigated seeds are usually not real but i hope yours turn out! Either way it should be fun to grow them
I got my monstera in a very immature from. It had four plants in one pot and the one is the size of a seedling or smaller than yours. So get to see it in nearly every form except the very mature with huge leaves and lots more splits. Mine are up to 5 at the moment.
How strong of light can monsteras handle? I have some barrina grow lights and was wondering if that is ok for them? Also thinking of trying some seeds myself!
I honestly dont know, I cant find any real information on if thats even a real thing or not like the deliciosa vs borsigiana. I see a lot of blogs try and describe the differences but all my monnstera seem like borsigiana until i hit them with good light and a pole to climb

I chopped mine in several wetsticks and the one’s growing at my place (fertilizer, direct sun, high humidity and warm temperatures in summer) grew to quite a big size and have ruffled petioles. The one’s growing at my girlfriend’s (AC in summer, low light, average humidity, no fertilizer) have tiny leaves and look like the so called 'borsigiana/small form'. I think big/small form are just the same grown under different conditions 🤷🏻♂️
@@TechplantChannel I got both normal and large for amd there is a distinct difference in the leaves. They get frills faster at the petiole near the leaf, but also the leaves themselves have more fenestrations and are much bigger than the borsigiana ones. That said, the Borsigiana can also grow very large, just not AS large as the deliciosa ^^
I have a monstera where one leaf is huge with inner fenestrations and no ruffles, and a cutting from it has a small only. slits leaf with nice ruffles. I wanna really dig into it, i wanna find a better way to identify them from each other
I i brought a plant that was around 6 months old if i compare it. I let it aclimate for 3/4 off a month and now repoted it its doing grate. And it really relives me to see that at this stage yours is not making leave gabs either I thaugt i done something wrong ot its the winter light or my room was to cold ( i dont use the heater but the pc so its still 18 to 20 °C ) But its spreading new leaves constsntly so i was wondering what it is of the plant obviously has a good time xD
Its a pot with drainage holes And some tea filter then some tropical seramis granit stuff than just regular good plant erth and on top another layer off the tropical substrad the down layer is for better drainage and the one on top against drying out and against mold (hat problems with mold on two plants they are in a less moist room now) And as i said the monstera demiciosa is doing verry well i hot it with 5 leaves from an aldi And now it has 11 from wich 4 belong to an offshoot that had just one leave (seams like its 3 indivitual plants but they where inseperable)

I am growing my monstera seeds in a sphagnum, Perlite, and regular mixing soil. They're growing so well in there!! Got 11 and 9 are growing!

So fun! Another idea for a pot is an upside down pot and letting it grow as a hanging plant! That would be cool to see if it does well haha

The only cactus/succulent ive grown was dragon fruit but they are a tropical cactus so it was easier lol

theres no such thing as monstera albo seeds albos are Chimeric variegation and that is not passed down to seeds

I think the Monstera on the plank will grow bigger leaves than the one with a pole, which will have bigger leaves than the one without pole 😉

I bought some seeds from the same shop and they came in looking partially sprouted. Nothing like yours. I'm gonna try them and hopefully they're viable.
if they are fresh enough, they can build humidity in the bag and just sprout, I wouldnt be alarmed and they should still grow for you. Good luck!

sphagnum moss is far better to grow saplings rather then Coco Peet.
