Working backwards, what we hear is from the microphone listening to the sound coming from Charles' mouth.
Charles' mouth is shaping the sound in the way we shape sounds when we speak or sing.
Rather than coming from his vocal cords, the sound is coming from his bass (plus whatever effects he has applied).
It's sent into his mouth along the clear tube from the talkbox, which is basically a little speaker in a box on the floor that vibrates the air in the tube.

Just when I think you've pushed the instrument as far as it can go, you do this. Your skills both as a player and composer seem to improve WEEKLY! I may have made this request before, but I'd love to see your version of Sultans of Swing. I've only heard the song covered once (in Kathmandu!) because Mark Knopfler's soul is in every note. It's not the early days of RUclips and that's probably why.
The early 2000's is where a lot of the creative at. You can find tons of people doing way out stuff. But people don't want to search anymore. It's so saturated it's easier to let things be brought to them rather than search.
Because then we stya in the mainstream and let the others that also have talent drawn and fade.

the noise coming out of the tube replaces your vocal chords and you shape the sound as normal ... not like the vocoder thing that processes a signal from your mic ( now that IS embarrassing to practice at low volume )
