I did run into more problems with this turntable as you can see in a following video: ruclips.net/video/0moXl3o7qCw/видео.html. The tonearm socket DIN went bad (not sure how after all the cleaning I tried) and I'm working on part two of the series on how to remove and reinstall the tonearm with a new DIN with new wiring already attached. I'm expecting the new DIN with wiring on Monday, April 15th, so I can complete the repair and part 2 of the video series.
I got an SL-D3 last week, from a collector who has been fixing and refurbishing turntables for 40 years - it's great to see such videos to get a look inside of the Technics. I absolutely love my D3 and sounds fantastic. All the best with yours!
I like hearing the word perfect in this refurb venture. It's quit a task to take on, but it helps seeing a nice clean machinery design under the hood at 4:08. Shirt well deserved and long live vinyl. 👍
Not sure if you caught the part in my video or not, but I had the external switch (dial) maxed out at turning the speed down. With the switch all the way dialed down it still spun at 35 and 47 respectively. Turning down the internal pots I was able to manually dial down the speed with the extremal dial. It now spins dead on at 33 and 45. Hope that explains.
Great insights. I have an SL-D2 that will not hold it's pitch steady. I have, on top of cleaning the contacts of the pitch adjustment wheel, replaced about EVERY radial capacitor on the board. Same problem persists. Any ideas, I'm kind of at a loss now with this one !
I did find the adjustment holes for the pots on top! If you take the mat off and align one of the two holes on the platter next to the strobe glass you will see the holes for the adjustment pots (look down through the hole). You will need a small flat tipped screwdriver to adjust them. You don't need to take it apart like I did. After working on a few more turntables I found out most of them have a way to adjust the pitch from the top. I hope this helps!
I just bought a SL-D3 off EBay yesterday, the auto version of the SL-D1 i used to have for DJing. Im curious as to why you added the dampening strips to the bottom of the platter and what was the material?
@@SteveV2023 the dampening material is called Soundcoat and I bought it from Parts Connecxion. If you hold up the platter and knock on it you will hear a high pitch ringing. After the Soundcoat is applied it quietens down the ringing. I'll be putting out a video demonstrating this with a platter I just got with a SL-Q3 that I bought. I'll send you a link when I get it uploaded and a link will be in the description of the video. Some people will say it's not necessary, but it does help with resonance.
I have a SL-D2 with the same pitch problem where is the adjustment screw. I have looked all over the PCB close to the switch and I can't find it. Thanks, Ron
Hello, I have a Technics SL-D202; the cueing is stuck in the up position and won’t come down. If the riser is manually pushed down, it goes right back up. It worked fine until I cleaned it, and this is what happened. I haven’t opened it yet. Any advice, or are you able to service it? Thanks
I just happen to be refurbishing a SL-D202 right now! I'm working this weekend, but if you email me I could send you some pics of it opened up and show you the mechanisms that move the cue lever. It could be that it needs to be cleaned and lubed or possibly one of the arms the move it inside have come undone?? gwcurts@gmail.com
i have the mcs version ,i was planning to do the rca cable mod so thanks for uploading this

Very cool George!
im unclear why you had to adjust the speed internally when these turntables have an external pitch adjustment

Nice job george. Looks awesome.

email me at gwcurts@gmail.com and I'll send you a pic of exactly where to make the adjustment.
