You're such an inspiration to me. Because of you I've had the courage at 66 yrs old to begin to make my own skin and hair care products, even though I've been reading and researching them for years. I can't thank you enough for sharing with us the beautiful and harmonious life you live with Mother Earth.
When I retired I started enjoying doing my housework instead of rushing to get it done. It is now part of my spiritual practice to mindfully clean my home, cook our meals and care for my plants & animals. It has brought me so much joy to be connected to Life instead of Work.
There is a wisdom that can be gained from living with nature. We have lost much from living apart from nature and we don't even realize it. It's a shame really as we are living longer but not better.
I've always considered work something beautiful. It's how we think of and use the word "work" that can create misconceptions and negative attitudes. Too often people think of work as drudgery- something to get through to get to the good stuff in life. We raise children to think that work is a necessary hardship. My work with herbs is a pleasure. My work dehydrating fruit is enjoyable. My work caring for an elderly friend is an honor. My work creating a home that is a sanctuary feels sacred to me. When the work we do fulfills our purpose or calling, it is a holy act. If we are passionate about the work we do and if we do it with great love, well, then we can see the whole concept of "work" through a different lens. PS I'm feeling the same harvest overload push, to not waste or miss out on the fruits of our labor and the bounty Mother Earth gifts to us!
I love watching your videos. Everything is so lovely and peaceful and beautiful. Those peas are huge and look so fresh and perfect. I love the way you help everyone connect with nature visually when they are unable to do it otherwise due to whatever circumstance they may be facing at the moment. I used to spend every single day outdoors before I became disabled, I miss that so much, and watching your videos gives me a great deal of Joy deep down in my heart. Thanks for being here for everyone here on RUclips, Love you so much!
Dear Lou, I am sorry to hear that you cannot get out as often and I am so happy to know that these videos bring you some joy and a connection to the outdoors. Thanks for letting me know xx
I love your sweet little dogs, how they are always side by side and follow you around. They’re precious! Loved the videos, and loved your beautiful green scarf around your hair ❤️
YOU are literally a breath of fresh air. Thank you so much for being you! The most genuine person I've come across on this platform ❤ "I like to break rules"! Love it!
I love that onion trick! I have to freeze all my produce, but I don’t blanch or cook anything before putting in the freezer. Everything comes out fresh picked tasting and is quick to cook. I chop onions, garlic and peppers before freezing to use straight away. I core and score tomatoes whole before freezing. They can get dropped right into my instant pot with pasta and water for dinner in 10 minutes. Just stir and the tomatoes are instant fresh from the garden sauce around the pasta. Even cherry tomatoes are frozen whole for winter stir fry
I don't blanche anything for the freezer. I used to, then one year I bought 50 corn cobs and the logistics of blanching was too much to sort out so just broke the cobs in half, bagged them and put them in the freezer. They tasted great so the following year I just podded and froze peas as well as tomatoes, beans and corn and have done this ever since. It all tastes fine. Sometimes also I cook up tomatoes and pulp them so they are ready for spaghetti sauce etc =-)
I freeze fresh figs. After harvest I trim the tops . Then wash and allow to dry completely before placing in freezer bags. It's delightful to have figs during winter. I absolutely find your programmes delightful.
I agree! And this is a great method to blanch, I could never get the ice bath thing to work, pouring over boiling water then cooling with running water works well. I just used this method to blanch snow peas, so easy.
Always so happy when a new video pops up from you Terri. Enjoying a lazy Sunday morning with coffee, croissants and Danu's Irish Herb Garden. What fabulous peas and onions. Blessings. xxx
I remember shelling peas on the porch with my grandmother! I spent a few weeks with her, no running water; a hand pump sink, a wood stove, and tales of Ireland she had learned from her great grandparents! She taught me a lot for a 3 yr old. I learned how to start a 🔥, in the stove. She let me stand on a chair a mix biscuits, and so many things! One of my great uncles I was too young! She told him to leave the because I had made the fire, and the majority of the food he was eating! Thank you so much for your videos! I missed so much, and forgot so much, but you are bringing it all back!
So awesome to begin the day watching your channel, and the music is so uplifting! Thank you to you and your husband for your work to bring this to us! 💞🙏💗
You make me laugh with your rule breaking remark and the devilish look you gave your husband. Your way of blanching I will try. Great way to hang onions, another rule breaker, love it. Thanks for sharing your day. :-)
I think it is so interesting that the design of American kitchens has evolved to look as if one is putting on a cooking show and yet so few Americans actually cook. You do so much in your cozy kitchen! Much more I think than many of us, and you make it look so effortless, Terri.
Terri ,thank you for making me laugh .Doing things your own way regardless of "the food police "who say it must be done this way! I've always looked at "the rules " and adapted them to suit me. Back when Adam was a lad, my mother dried peas ,they're fine when cooked but totally different from frozen peas ,more like cooked mush . Have a happy week xx
Thank you for the harvest video. Speaking of breaking rules - I don't blanch my peas I just pod them and put them straight into bags for the freezer. I've been doing this for years and it works just fine and saves some time. I'm also freezing green beans the same way - cut them up, put them on cookie pans in the freezer and once frozen pack them into bags. sshh - don't tell anyone!
All those beautiful onion skins for eco dying....I save all my white and red onion skins for eco dying homemade paper and cloths for crafts! You have such a beautiful place there in Ireland, a place my heart yearns for, my ancestry home :)
Watching you in your garden makes me homesick for the time I spent in my mother's garden. It's so beautiful. Unfortunately due to multiple heatwaves I lost most of my first crops and the second round of crops are not doing as well. We only had enough peas for a few meals where last year we had enough to freeze for most of the winter. Also my tomatoes are not as numerous as last year. I sell the extra tomatoes throughout the season for extra money to buy seeds for the next year (not enough to do this this year). My hope is someday I will have the space to grow in a bigger area. I am grateful for the space I currently have, as I live in a rental home in town with a bigger backyard then most since I have a parking lot behind me and not another home. Also the owners of the home could have said no on putting in gardens. I tried the Dusting Powder with Dried Rose Petals and Calendula Petals. My children love it to use before bed so they don't feel as sweaty during the hot nights. Thank you for your lovely videos.
Sorry to hear about your losses. The weather is a bit strange these days. Delighted to hear your children are enjoying the dusting powder. I had only a few tomatoes this year and they take so long here that we will run out of time for a lot of them to ripen. Still, life is good. xx
I can remember podding peas with my nana and how happy I was being with her and helping her get the peas ready for dinner I now do the same with my own granddaughter and we have such fun, often laughing our heads of as the occasional pea jumps out of the pod or bowl onto the floor she is in gales of laughter which I join in with. I love out granddaughters laugh and find the laughter of children in general so uplifting. Thank you again for all of your wonderful tips. I will definitely be freezing some peas next year our pea crop was abysmal this year to a sudden cold spell icy winds from the north did for most or our vegetable crops this year and lack of water then too much didn't help either never mind onwards and upwards there is always next year.
You have such a beautiful garden. I love how it meanders around with pretty things at every turn. Your puppies are so adorable. Love watching them run and play. We always had a big garden growing up. Nothing like growing, picking and eating from the garden. I only have a small garden now but I still enjoy it. Usually for shelled peas, we just shelled them and put them directly in the freezer. They always done well. What kind of beans were you picking today? The vines look different than what I’ve grown. Happy Harvesting Terri! Great idea for hanging onions. That would work for garlic as well. Hugs!
What an ingenious way to hang onions Terry! I tried to grow peas this summer, but they hated our intense heat here in California, so they died out despite our best efforts. I may just try again in autumn. We are increasing our growing grounds and I would love for it to be like yours-it’s lovely! Thank you for sharing! ♥️
Loved the video, as usual ❣️ My 5 year old granddaughter called me tonight (lives in Alaska) to tell me they were making Kale chips and had bottled chicken stock yesterday (she said "from our meat chickens, not the laying ones!"). And had dug lots of carrots to make a carrot cake for her mom's birthday. My daughter is raising her right 😍 Have a lovely week, blessed 🐝
Thank you for the tip on hanging the onions. Although I have been gardening for years I didn't know how to cure and store my onions. I learned gardening from my mother and she never raised the larger onions. When I tried I ended up with a stinky mess but now I will try again next year. Yes, I do my peas the same way now that I am retired. In the past I canned them because I traveled the US for a living and I was in constant fear of my freezer or the electric going out while I was on the road. And yes, it has happened, I live in what we call tornado alley. Peas just taste fresher when frozen I enjoyed this video so much that I didn't want it to end. Thank you... Oh, and keep saving those seeds!
Thank you for sharing the onion storing/ hanging tip! The only tip I have is for storing herbs; when you pick them depending on how you would use them freeze them in ice cube trays with water (for making salads, breads or tea later), in oil (for sautéing or using in personal care), or drying them either by hanging upside down or using a food dehydrator (for soups, stews, or roasted veggies)
@@DanusIrishHerbGarden The area I currently live in is humid with 4 seasons and looses power fairly often. I was loosing the food in my refrigerator and freezer about 5 times a year, so for me it's worth it; plus it makes going camping (and weather emergencies) easier to handle and much more convenient when you can prepare dehydrated meals by pouring the package (or jar) into a thermos and add boiling water -seal it and have dinner made in about 15 - 20 minutes using a campfire. It is also helpful for storing food in the winter with limited freezer space, and does still take sometimes a day to dehydrate veggies (depending on the fruit/ veggies) though.
This looks like the perfect life to me, you are a very talented and lucky lady to have such a wonderful property. I filled my garden with trees and now I don't have much space or light for a veg garden, I also have a million slugs which the resident toads don't seem to be able to keep on top of but my Magnolia makes me happy and that's what counts. I love your channel, see you next time 😊🌻🌼🌺
Hi Terri and Lol . Nice to go again to your home , sharing good moments and good ideas with your gardening. As soon as possible Patricia and I will go to meet you . Pratically every day I spent time in Ballyconnelly Youpi for my old computer which is still strong enough to make me travel and harvest good souvenirs from your emerald isle . Love XXX Alain .
Hey Alain! We can't wait to see you and Patricia again and to share some time together. Have you made any pyramids for the garden yet? I still havent tried it. Love from the wild west XXX
@@lolhardiman5247 Hi Lol . I cut copper pipes and offered a pyramid kit to Quentin for his birthday . He built it and put it on a banana plant in his veranda . WE are waiting and look later .For my own , I made no one for me . I am now prepearing irish towers with different diametrers mortar , paramagnetic basalte and quartz . The will be used next spring .
Beautiful, no word for work. It should be a beautiful thing to do this (harvesting) and call it living. Your harvesting also reminds me living with my grandmother harvesting food for winter. It was so much fun!!! I really enjoyed it, it did not feel like work for sure, but then my grandmother was indigenius. But sadly I'm a westerner now and I have ALMOST lost the connection, but trying to harness it back.
I enjoyed it Terri Now about that question, that you brought up. "Work to live or live to work". So close to famous " To be or not to be........"So I know Man heard dies when he retires. My would. I have chosen to be truck driver in USA (doing it last 10 years) so I can work to old age and I am enjoying it, which makes me feel free. The thing is much more complex, but I think its not right to separate those two meaning of being working. But thank you for bringing it up. 👴
I did enjoy it very much, thank you. I love seeing you being outside in nature and working with your hands. It reminds me of my childhood when we lived in an old farm house in the outskirts of town and I helped my mum prepare the beans for freezing. I wish our society wouldn't be so focused on academic education. It sure has its benefits (I recently finished a masters degree myself) but it leaves so little space to be in nature and enjoy what the earth has to offer.
I agree re education. I have a masters degree too and I loved working for it but my earlier education - primary and secondary school - did not prepare me for the practicalities of life at all!!
Thank you for sharing your wonderful garden. My wife and I look forward to your new posts each week. thank ypou for being siuch a sincere and loving Earth mother.
Always enjoy your videos, Toni. Thankyou for showing the string method of hanging onions. It reminded me that I used to do this years ago and how mush easier it is! I'll be doing this later in the week
Wonderful harvest meandering! I enjoyed all of the pieces and bits!…btw I break the ice cube rule too! LOL. I’ve been dehydrating and freezing….trying out a new method of powdering some of the veggies and herbs I’ve dehydrated ….room to put all of the jars is becoming scarce! Hope you have a good week!
I flash freeze berries and tomatoes, cut up green beans on trays then pop them into bags. Use them within a year though. Also make kale, basil and parsley into pesto and freeze it in small jars and add the cheese and some nuts at meal time. Break lots of rules :)
Love the way you are hanging and twining your onions! I harvested my onions and didn't want to braid them, but I will hang them the way you have. Thanks for the instruction! I am enjoying your channel!
I have always strung my onions and plaited my garlic, its lovely to see someone stringing onions it makes for a lovely hanging ornament and is very tidy in the kitchen and for me they last longer like this other than tucked away in a dark cupboard. Lovely video thanks for taking the time to do it.
Really fascinating to know about the harvest. Some incredible details so easy to miss. Your podcast makes life seem so enjoyable and I like your words of wisdom as you shell the 'PEACE". Wish I was there. Got that Isle in my blood but it's a bit far from me now. Live in CA USA.
I love the way you hung the onions they look beautiful, I will try that when I harvest my onions and garlic. I will also have to grow my own oats I enjoy drinking a Oatstraw infusion. Thank you for another fantastic video Best wishes and I hope you have a lovely sunny week
Definitely going to use the onion hanging tek, ours are out drying now at work, thanks for sharing!...and just as I notice a lovely little God's eye in the scene too...looks great ;) x
Terri, re your mention here of the stalk that broke on your broadbean. I'm not sure if it was just a fluke, or something that really worked - this year my zinnia which was massive and at the height of her glory the main stalk got broken in one of our huge wind storms, part was still in tact but 3/4 of the stalk was severed. I made a comfrey root poultice and wrapped the muslin/root pulp around the stalk where the break was and then with a piece of "plastic-not-fantastic" to keep the goo in, and secured it. The zinnia continued to flourish for another two months! I would love to know if anyone else tries or has tried this for mending plants!
Had to harvest my peas a couple of weeks back. I think next year a bigger space is needed as I didn’t yield as much as I thought, they were planted in a Belfast sink. Thanks for another lovely video Terri 🦋
I wish you well with the rest of your harvest and thank you very much for sharing your tips and showing us how you harvest. I don't have any tips to share back as yet because it has been a long time since I grew anything, I am growing a few things this year, tomatoes which I have grown before, peas, Purple sprouting broccoli, Cucumbers, Kale, and pumpkins that are new to me.
Hello, its lovely to see you in your lovely cosy kitchen, it 😊 is so very homely to see,,oh the sound of pea shelling reminds me also of when I was young home with my parents, and 6 of us children, dad had a huge garden full of yummy,we all helped back then to plant and weed and constantly tend to the veg,in winter my hands were very Jack frosty picking lovely big sprouts.,but back to peas my eldest brother would fill his pockets and pod and eat them on the way to his work,,bless him,,,looking back we didn't have much money but we were so rich in good food because of the big veg garden, dad used to weave basket s too.and z big crib for my younger brother when he was born,,dad was from Glasgow, he met mum in uk whilst in the army, they got married and had us 6,phew hexwas a farm worker then for years in devon then somerset, but he turned his hand to many many crafts x also...,terri I love love your onions yum, xxxxxxxxx
Great videography, I just loved seeing the chickens close up and down at their level. Re: dried peas, they make great soup in the winter, with some onions, carrots, garlic, and herbs.
Yay! Another walk in Terri's garden! 👍 This is the time of year that's sort of a sprint until fall - and I love it! That's really cool the way you do the onions on the twine! I'm going to try that with the garlic too. I break a lot of rules in my kitchen too, Terri. My kitchen. My rules.😏 The only think I do a bit differently with things to go in the freezer is that I freeze them on a cookie sheet first. If I want a handful of peas or chopped peppers or whatever to add to a dish, they're all pretty seperate. Also, I learned from someone else to gather green beans and put them in a jar until there's enough to run the canner. Speaking of breaking the rules, I can tomatoes and the green beans in the Instant Pot. Blessings for an abundant harvest! 💜

Tacy, you say such lovely things! 🙏
Love your videos, if you freeze the peas on a sheet tray first then bag them its easier to scoop out what you need.
Thank you - I do that with berries, why didn't I think of it for peas?😂

I learned gardening from my mother and she never raised the larger onions. When I tried I ended up with a stinky mess but now I will try again next year. Yes, I do my peas the same way now that I am retired. In the past I canned them because I traveled the US for a living and I was in constant fear of my freezer or the electric going out while I was on the road. And yes, it has happened, I live in what we call tornado alley. Peas just taste fresher when frozen I enjoyed this video so much that I didn't want it to end. Thank you... Oh, and keep saving those seeds!
I will Tommie and thanks so much for watching!
Thank you for taking us along with you to your beautiful garden.
Any time!
Thanks Jennifer - just wondering if I should invest in a dehydrator??
@@DanusIrishHerbGarden The area I currently live in is humid with 4 seasons and looses power fairly often. I was loosing the food in my refrigerator and freezer about 5 times a year, so for me it's worth it; plus it makes going camping (and weather emergencies) easier to handle and much more convenient when you can prepare dehydrated meals by pouring the package (or jar) into a thermos and add boiling water -seal it and have dinner made in about 15 - 20 minutes using a campfire. It is also helpful for storing food in the winter
with limited freezer space, and does still take sometimes a day to dehydrate veggies (depending on the fruit/ veggies) though.
Thank you for the onion tip, I love the technique and it is a beautiful kitchen decor :o)
I love your channel, see you next time 😊🌻🌼🌺
I am very lucky Xaraxania, you are right. Glad your Magnolia keeps you happy, I would love a Magnolia but I think it is too windy here!
Love to you Alain and to Patricia also xxx
@@lolhardiman5247 Hi Lol . I cut copper pipes and offered a pyramid kit to Quentin for his birthday . He built it and put it on a banana plant in his veranda . WE are waiting and look later .For my own , I made no one for me . I am now prepearing irish towers with different diametrers mortar , paramagnetic basalte and quartz . The will be used next spring .
"Living and being"... wonderful
😀 💚 🙏
Beautiful, no word for work. It should be a beautiful thing to do this (harvesting) and call it living. Your harvesting also reminds me living with my grandmother harvesting food for winter. It was so much fun!!! I really enjoyed it, it did not feel like work for sure, but then my grandmother was indigenius. But sadly I'm a westerner now and I have ALMOST lost the connection, but trying to harness it back.
I hope you manage to make the reconnection xx
This is such good information and so soothing to watch. You are my hero, Terri!
Thanks Amanda!
How Bountiful is the Good Earth ") wonderful. In Joy
Joy to you Vivian!
Listening to the video while I’m chopping up our tomato harvest. That’s how I hang my onions too. By far my favourite method. Have a lovely day!
Happy Days Stephanie😀
Save rinse water for garden. I love watching you. It feels good. Blessings.
Thank you Jeanne! Yes rinse water was typically used here before plumbing!
Your onions look great done that way, very clever!!
Thanks Jan, just discovered this method and had to share 😀
I must like breaking rules as well because I preserve my fresh peas much like you, Terri. Rule breakers unite!
Yeah!!💪💪💪
Thank you dear Terry....I can learn so many things!! You are really a very beautiful soul!
Thank you A C. You can learn many things - whatever you want. x
Beautiful ❤️, thank you for sharing your harvest, and fingers crossed 😉👍
Thanks Paulina! xx
I like that onion storage idea. Will try that when I have a larger harvest some day. Thank you for this lovely video.
You're welcome!
Thank you for sharing your wonderful garden. My wife and I look forward to your new posts each week. thank ypou for being siuch a sincere and loving Earth mother.
Thank you very much Jeff, I appreciate hearing that🙏😀
Love the new way of tying the onions! Your channel is lovely!
Thanks Bobby and Sandy!
I love your videos. Your spirit are so calming and loving. It feels like watching the mother/sister I never had. Thank you for that
How lovely of you to say! I am honoured.💚
Always enjoy your videos, Toni. Thankyou for showing the string method of hanging onions. It reminded me that I used to do this years ago and how mush easier it is! I'll be doing this later in the week
I've just discovered this method and it is brilliant!
Thank you ✌️💞🤟
Beautiful video as usual
Thanks!
I have same scarcity problem 😂
I flash freeze berries and tomatoes, cut up green beans on trays then pop them into bags. Use them within a year though. Also make kale, basil and parsley into pesto and freeze it in small jars and add the cheese and some nuts at meal time. Break lots of rules :)
Thanks for the tips re pesto!
You're so pretty 🥰
Thank you for showing how to hang onions. I always wondered how they stayed together in a bunch. ✌
Thanks! I just found this method - it is more simple and easier than braiding,
Love the way you are hanging and twining your onions! I harvested my onions and didn't want to braid them, but I will hang them the way you have. Thanks for the instruction! I am enjoying your channel!
Glad to hear that Debbie!
I have always strung my onions and plaited my garlic, its lovely to see someone stringing onions it makes for a lovely hanging ornament and is very tidy in the kitchen and for me they last longer like this other than tucked away in a dark cupboard. Lovely video thanks for taking the time to do it.
I love to see herbs and onions and garlic hanging - it's so homely and comforting.
Hi Holly, thanks for watching xx
Your home is lovely and earthy
Thanks Bridget!
Always wondered how that was done!! Thank you for showing me!!
I love the way you hung the onions they look beautiful, I will try that when I harvest my onions and garlic. I will also have to grow my own oats I enjoy drinking a Oatstraw infusion. Thank you for another fantastic video Best wishes and I hope you have a lovely sunny week
Thanks Mandy - so far the weather is not too bad!😀
My grannie would save those onion skins to boil and strain for yellow dye and it made a compost tea for plants
They make a lovely dye. Wish I had time to spin
Definitely going to use the onion hanging tek, ours are out drying now at work, thanks for sharing!...and just as I notice a lovely little God's eye in the scene too...looks great ;) x
My lovely God's Eye - it was gifted to me by a lovely lady in UK. She has an Etsy shop called Patterns of Pisces!😀
My problem is, I eat them as I’m shelling them lol They’re so sweet and beautiful. Far nicer than any bag of sweets. Yummy
Thanks Terri. Much appreciated💚
💚💚💚
I think that was a brilliant idea to use Comfrey - one of the best knitter uppers. Brilliant!
Please ladies what is comfrey root?
I love gardening, but I must say it's so much easier watching you do all the work!
Loved this I’m learning every week . Many Thanks x 😘
😘 🙏
Happy days.
That's right😀
Lovely vid we have an abundant harvest from our allotment this year xxx
Good for you! Great to hear that.
A lovely video!! What a great relaxing garden you have!! I know though it's still a lot of work!! Look forward to more videos!! Cheers!!
Thank you uppanadam74. Thanks for watching!
Had to harvest my peas a couple of weeks back. I think next year a bigger space is needed as I didn’t yield as much as I thought, they were planted in a Belfast sink. Thanks for another lovely video Terri 🦋
Thanks for watching Jo Jo!
Watching this brings back memories of sitting on my Grandmama's porch and helping her shell beans. 🥰
Happy memories!
Enjoy the work and then enjoy the harvest xx
Thanks Hetty. xx
Thank you! I love and appreciate your videos and advice and wisdom. Blessings to you!!!@
Blessings to you too GloriaHathor xx
Love the onion garlands! I'm going to try this!! 😊
It is SO easy! Wish I had known about it earlier.
I so enjoy your videos. Thank you. I like breaking rules too 😉
Great to hear that you Rebel!
Great videography, I just loved seeing the chickens close up and down at their level. Re: dried peas, they make great soup in the winter, with some onions, carrots, garlic, and herbs.
Thanks Joan - I think I will keep the rest of my peas to dry just for the soup😀
Thanks Trish - great tip re cookie sheet💚
What a great way to store onions,
Thank You,
Your videos are lovely
Glad you are enjoying them xx
Nasturtiums are great, anti fungal, anti biotic a wonderful plant to help people and animals as they taste really nice too.
Yes they are! xx
Thank you! 💥❤️🙏🏼💥
You're welcome!
