Sci-fi is my second favorite genre next to horror, and I've really been wanting to read more of it. Although when I read this, I'll have to buy it because of its length. It's on my Blackwell's wishlist now. It sounds really, really good.😇🌠

The story is interesting and the way you gave your insight and opinion in an honest way, made me decide to "yep, I'm totally going to read this" I want to be shocked about the rest of the story! I just finished it - after buying it bc of your rec - and it was absolutely stunning. One of those books that have a mesmerising effect. I tore through it, probably too quickly, and I think I have to revisit it in a year or so, and take it slowly. So much is left open, but it was also tied up very neatly and heartbreakingly. What a journey... I have to force someone to read it so I can discuss it in depth. 😂
Thank you for the excellent recommendation, I feel really enriched by the book and all thanks to you! ❤

I’d been saving this video to watch when I had finished the book. Very happy to say my experience is parallel, I would normally struggle to get through 500 pages (ADHD here too) but I bolted this in a week. I felt thirsty to read it the whole time, the depth and beauty floored me. The miriad of connections of life at different levels on every page, the subtlety of the relationships and Leigh’s resolve. I’m feel like I’ve been plugged into the mains. Have you read Sabrina Imbler’s ‘My Life in Sea Creatures’? Real life (& queer) marine biologist interweaving non-fiction science and personal essay. I think you’d love it! 🖤

  • @ammalyrical5646

This sounds like an interesting book. Shame I couldn't find it in the audiobook app I use, which is basically my library. And even many ebooks are quite expensive right now so I don't know if I feel like buying it. I don't think I can really afford it right now and the local library (which isn't free by any stretch of the imagination) probably doesn't have the book either. I'll just put it on a wishlist and see if it'll get a discount at some point.
I felt like screaming: wanna bet about the statement I wouldn't understand it? I have a background in biomedical science and engineering so I probably would understand most of it well enough depending on how deep the details of the physics and maths go. I'm also Dutch and this got me intrigued about how well The Netherlands is represented in this book. If Leigh (which is a weird name for a kid here even with all the foreign names integrated into the language) studied and or works in NL I'm so curious how well the unis are represented. There's only three places you can study marine biology for example and up to this video I thought there was only one place you could do it, which is a smart bit of promotion from that uni because they didn't actually state it with those words.
I have this this strong feeling my family would push me to pursue an opportunity like the one Leigh gets btw. I have so many issues finding a suitable job, if I really wanted it and I got such a unique chance to go they would tell me to do it. I know, because in a simpler, smaller scale situation they already have. And it was big for me at the time. They never told me not to try something if I really wanted it, more like the complete opposite. Now, what I would choose, I'm not sure about if it was about going away for such a long time. Really wanting something might not be enough to actually do it.

      @@NapoleanBuonaparte Hey.
The 5 are now almost 7. But my struggles stayed and I got burn out. Such is life (and it wasn't the first time, sadly).
Would you mind changing my name to Amma or Ama though. I'm starting to try and get my full name from the internet since it's quite unique. I've just been procrastinating because going through video descriptions and comments is a TASK.
I might upload again, or I might not. It's been a while and I keep thinking about what I would even like to post. It's good to be careful online since everything stays on it foreverr.
Also: no, I didn't finish my degree. But I've since come to the conclusion that that workfloor would probably be way too much stress and pressure for me anyway. I don't regret the studying though. It was interesting and fun until it wasn't (fun) near the end.
And an ePub would be nice. I can't promise I would read the book very soon. I have a massive to read list, plus I got into puzzling and gaming again as well I picked writing back up. The book is still on my wishlist though.

I live outside the city of Cleveland OH - far enough outside that, on certain clear nights, the stars and occasionally planets are brightly shining. My partner remarked how clear it's been lately, how easy it was to identify Orion. I thought about the protagonist of In Ascension when they would mark the journey of coming up on the next planet - the detail about the *window* and what it really was - how insane to imagine passing by a planet. Anyway, I had been waiting for this book to become available at the library - when I started it, I'd forgotten how I'd even heard about it. It occurred to me today, it was probably on your channel. How gratifying to watch this video again and experience the joy of this book with you. Thank you for the recommendation - my life too has been changed!

I am interested in reading this book and this is how I eventually reached your channel. Your video just made my "hype" about it even bigger. I can feel the excitement in every single word you say. I will be buying it definitely. Just a question if I may, since I am not a native English speaker - do you think the vocabulary is too technical or scientific at times? I read pretty much everything and anything in English but scifi is a genre I've been keeping a distance with in English since I don't know if I will get "lost in translation" so to speak.
