    Great video, very clear explanations. I'm the owner of a MX5 NA 1992 1.6L and enthousiast mechanic. I do the full maintenance myself and your video are a great tech support.

    you're the only other person I've seen use that trick, I use the wire I use for cleaning carb jets to wedge the nut in. Whether wrench or socket it works pretty good

      Cleaning the jets, stop your scaring the youngsters in here. Ive never tried the wire but I can see how it would work. Thank you for the comment and for watching the channel.

    These videos are dangerous, you've got me thinking I could tackle this myself. You are great at simplifying the process so it's easy to follow.
    Looking forward to the future video on replacing the head.

      Yeah I need to get that 19 car back in rotation. I guess its the teacher in me that allows me to see the details you need to know. If kids in my class can put these cars together with 9 months of a school year, you most certainly can too. Thanks for the comments and watching.

    Thanks for keeping it simple in your explanations, teacher. Hey, I’m still learning the names of all the parts, that’s how green I am. Funny you mentioned Advanced Autosports in Wisconsin as a source for some of your parts, that’s where I rented my Miata this season. I agree, Ben is a nice guy, and they’re easy to do business with.

    Can you do a video of assembling the whole head? And if you don’t mind me asking what’s the 7 herbs and spices? I use to build dirt bike motors to race but idk what’s allowed in the spec Miata class. But as always your videos are great. You are the man! 🙌🏽

      Hey Bad Rock I raced MX and CC for years and yeah built a lot of 2 stroke engines back in the day 1983-1995. It takes a lot of specialty tools to build a head, The local shop gives me a great deal and fast turnaround. Just not worth my time to build them any longer.

      @@aracing I totally hear ya on that, their is a lot to go into 2 strokes and 4 strokes these days, porting, titanium valves, on a 2 stroke welding the power valve open so it’s constantly in the power band haha but I’m curious what is allowed in the spec Miata class. I’m looking for a car to build but I don’t want to start doing stuff the motor and show up and tech tell me no way that’s not legal 😅

    hey i oil starved my engine and its shim over bucket like this one and it makes this very interesting knock that sounds liek its top end but my valve lash is 2 thousands off of spec on 3 loabs and my buckets seem to be good condition after taking the cam off but it makes the sounds still could oil starvation crack a spring? i have super miata duel valve springs right now, have you ever heard of a dual valve spring making a noise only on acceleration from 800- 3200 rpm

    • @aracing
      @aracing  2 года назад

      I have never delt with the dual valve springs since we are not allowed to. Its a solid lifter cam so some ticking is normal, but you are talking about a knock. I would get it to make the noise then start unplugging spark plug wires till you find out what cyl it is. Then track it down from there. I do not think valve lash would cause a knock. Its piston or crank. You could just swap a head too.

    How are the pro engine builders getting their hp? Tolerances in the bearings, flow of the heads, magical pixie dust?

    I want to add a shift light to my spec Miata. Is there a light that works best for a Miata? Maybe a how to video on installation of a light? Proper shift points in racing? Staying in the power band.

    Thanks for this video:) Is a Spec Miata race car engine truly a stock 1.8L that you would find in any street car...I have read the SM rules and they are pretty strict but I'm guessing they are still somewhat modified for racing purposes to increase HP and engine reliability? If they are modified...what types of things are improved? Thanks!

    • @aracing
      @aracing  2 года назад +1

      A 1.6 has very little allowable modifications that can be legally done in the Spec Miata class. The 1.8 has even less. Most of the mods are made in the Cyl head. There is a fine line on what can be done to the head. If you are having your head done for Spec Miata then you need to fine an expert in Spec Miata cyl head mods that still fall in the legal arena. To answer you question directly, yes the engines are stock and can be removed out of a street car and raced. My buddy Mark just won the SSM regional championship with a engine we got out of a wrecker over 10yrs ago. So it can happen. Thanks for watching

    When you drop this back into the car how much stuff do you leave off and put on once it’s back in place? The CAS, the coil pack? The alternator? I’m wondering how complete my engine can be when I put it back.

    • @aracing
      @aracing  2 года назад

      I leave off the CAS, coil pack and ECT from the back of the head before I install an engine. Dang kids have been keeping those companies well funded with my money long enough. With that, they break easily and are not easy to get to when they are left on during installation. By removing them till the engine is full installed will save you a lot of money and time. Thank you for taking the time to comment.
