Hello everyone, Some additional notes. 1. If you don't see any Face sets colors assigned, you can still follow the tutorial without them and there should be no problem. You can use enable topology setting instead in the brush menu. 2. If you would still like to use Face sets feature, In Edit face mode, select similar mesh faces (L) and switch to Sculpt mode. Then in the face sets menu, use "Face set from Edit selection mode". 3. In Blender 3.5, the remesh grid shortcut is now "R".
Thanks for the help on how to fix this. When creating the object for the blocking stage, what do we need to do to ensure Blender picks up the face sets automatically?
@@VegnagunII Blender just sometimes skip creating them automatically and this might be due to some program bug or setting which I may not know yet. Sometimes it works and sometimes it does not. Maybe in future versions, it will become more refined. A simple test of joining some objects and switching to sculpt mode shows it may not work always (using 3.3). Better is to use the face sets menu if needed.
i find your tutorials very useful. Easy to understand, no useless information, dunno about the other beginners, but it was very easy to follow step by step
i spent a few years being scared of blender because everytime i tried a beginner tutorial, i found myself with too much useless information that did nothing for me, and I would be stuck sculpting a square, ctrl + Z, sculpt square, ctrl + z: repeat. But this made everything I found frustrating with blender so easy to digest, and I actually had so much fun. thank you!!! :))))
Hello, Farrukh! I'd like to let you know your tutorial has been INCREDIBLY helpful to me on Blender. I combined your tutorial with another hair tutorial from YanSculpts. Following both of them helped me make the model I wanted to do for so long, and I couldn't thank you enough for explaining things so well in this video! All the features you used (Especially the QuadFlow Remesh feature) were explained in great detail and helped a lot. Thank you!
Thank you very much. I am Korean, but I am not good at listening to English, so it is very difficult for an American expert to explain. It made me frustrated and stopped studying. ㅠㅠ However, I love the video you upload because I can listen and follow it right away, just like in Korean!! thank you so much. I made my own cat!! It's a miracle!!! (Your explanation is detailed, concise, and considerate.)
This tutorial just teaches you about: sculpting (i really improved a lot because of this tutorial, i would say around 50% of improvment), grid fill (wich can be used on another model made by you), Remesh (Really useful and vital considering you want to sculpt), Face Sets (Another essential thing to learn if you really want to sculpt), and many other, we can just appreciate this masterpiece of tutorial made by Farrukh!
Thank you so much for this. It's taken me a full day to do but I've finally managed to do some sculpting in Blender! I don't think it came out quite as neat as your model but the tutorial was so informative & I've honestly learned so much! I'm sure I'll be coming back to this again in the future. Thanks again :)
Hii! when i just watched the video for first time, i didnt knew how to follow it step-step, because i am spanish, but the way u talk has made me understand an english video!! ty, i also made my cat inspired of my irl one. i rlly liked the results, thank you!!
Thanks and awesome . I had earlier requested a full cat sculpting tutorial, much appreciated , Look forward to more such. Once again thank you so much .

Interesting tutorial! I'm just starting my blender journey, and just watching this gave me some ideas on how to do stuff, def will have to watch this again and more content as I increase my knowledge.
Hi, If the model part turns black, then first check it has a vertex color property (color attribute renamed now) assigned in data properties. Then fill the object with a color (shift K in vertex color mode) The name of the vertex color property should be the same for all parts. You can also use a mix color node if you want to retain the original color. Connect it after the color attribute node. Check my vertex color tutorial for more details on this. Hopefully, you will be able to understand it better. Thanks!
Another great tutorial! I feel like you're videos go at the perfect pace, where they feel relaxed but still well paced. When you do the level 3 subdivisions, is there any benefit to having the rendered subdivision amount set to 2 while the levels viewport amount is set to 3?
Thank you very much! For the 3 level subdivision, if lower value is set then rendering will be fast to check how sculpt looks. It can be increased for final shot. Although performance is not much noticeable in small project. I skipped it changing here, better to keep all values same. However, viewport lower value improves performance but affects sculpting smoothing in editor.
brilliant tutorial, thank you so much!! One question, how did you do the loop select? I've got the add on, but I have no idea how to use this! Thanks again :)
Thank you very much for your comment! To select loop press alt and click to select all faces or edges. You can also go to select menu in the select loops category assign custom shortcuts or add to quick favorites.
Hi so on you're cat video where you sculpted that cat would you recommend trying to sculpt the body just using other cubes with subdivision surfaces and then sculpting that then combining them I'm trying to make a character but with a human body?
Hi, Yes you can sculpt that way with a human body shape as well. It is good way. Make sure you original base mesh has enough faces or polygons to sculpt on. Then subdivision modifier will give better smooth result. You can also use mulitres modifier instead it will allow to sculpt more fine details. The process is almost the same as shown here.
Hi, Thank you! Apply the mirror modifier first on the ears (click the apply button in modifier) then join them into group. That should fix it. Head object has no mirror modifier so it removes the ear mirror modifier.
Not only do the brushes suddenly become inactive when they become active the dots are all over the place. I am in blender 4. Also at someepoints suddenly odd patterns appear on the surface.
day 1 of trying this cute cat out only got up to 2:48 though cause it was late. but tomorrow i will be finishing it off then posting it as a short to compare the differences :)
Hi, When a cube is sudivided, it will create clean quad based polygons which are good for sculpting. A UV sphere topology consists of triangles on top, lower sides which are not best for sculpting and create triangles when subdivided which can add artifacts during sculpting. That is the main difference although not always needed to use a cube. I hope this gives some idea.
Hi, Yes you can use remesh and create a low poly version of any model. If the model is static and not animated it can work. However, remesh topology will be not so good when UV, texturing or animating the model will be needed. Otherwise, this method is quick and applying a color material or basic texture will work. Depends on which method gets the job done. Both can be used.
Hi, you can separate the object then fill it with any color it. Select all faces of object which need a different color in edit mode (L key) and separate it (P key). Then you can color it. Other way is to use face paint mask (vertex paint top menu small box on side). First select faces then go to color in vertex paint. Try it out.
Great! Im stuck when you manifold, I get some holes but he main thing is a big seam barely visible dividing the model? any ideas.. also i use a more voxel than you, can´t get it to look like yours.. gahhh haha
Hi, Thank you! Yes, some issues do come when remeshing, holes mean some faces are open or thin. See if joined objects are not too much distorted. For Quadiflow remeshing, try with disable symmetry option. It can remove manifold problems. Next add a mirror object with clipping and bisect option. Use Voxel size which retains the most shape. With some practice you will get better results
hii, I have a problem with vertex paint, im trying to do another sculpt but with the same steps that you do, (to be more specific its a wolf chan from the group stray kids), when I paint the face with white works it, but when I tried to paint the ears does'nt work I don't know why, and I tried to join the head and the ears, the vertex paint, so paints but the color looks very bright, I checked the nodes and everything seems to be okay
Hi, please first check attribute color name is set the property panel. The name should be same and used in the shader editor as well that is the attribute color node. Next start by filling with one color (shift+k) and see if it works. Most likely node name or attribute node is different. Check in material preview mode. Try in a new clean file to test. Hopefully it will be fixed.
When I get to 3 minutes in and press control J to join parts it just duplicates the back legs so I end up with 6 limbs. When i try to join front arms only it says '' no mesh data to join''
Hi, Please check the order of joining the objects. First, join only those parts which have mirror modifiers. Move the objects to test if the mirror is working correctly or not. Also, only one axis should be on in the modifier (X-axis) Next, apply the mirror modifier. Then join it with the body. The body has no modifier on it. Try a few more mores times hopefully it will work and become easy to understand.
Thank you for all your videos! They have been so so helpful. I am having an issue with my mask, I was doing the mouth and I didn't like it so I cleared the mask and now when I try to draw it again it will not show up on any part of the sculpt. I was following the panda video..
Thank you very much for your comment! For the mask issue, make sure the object is active (alt+q) and then clear the mask from it (alt+m). Check the mask strength it should be 1 to remove it fully. Exit the sculpt mode and enter again. Also the mesh polygons should be high number now very low poly for mask to show smoothly. Try masking other object to see if it works.
hey, when I merged the open faces together it created a small crease in those spots. Is there any way to get rid of this? I used the auto merge vertices like you showed.
Hi, the small crease may be due to vertexes not merging. Add a weld modifier or increase the auto merge value threshold (it is next in the options setting button on top right corner). It should merge correctly hopefully then. Repeat s+x+0 again.
Hi, You can easily continue without face sets. They are not compulsory. Instead enable the topology setting in the brush menu which works almost in the same way.
Hello, Farrukh! Please help me, I have a problem with Vertex Paint. When I try to paint inside the ears, the brush doesn't paint. The color can only be seen in Solid, but not in Material Preview. I have already tried everything and followed the instructions. Even when I made a new document and moved the cat there, it didn't help. And when I try to use a brush on a square in a new document. It paints very badly, doesn't react immediately, and doesn't paint exactly where it should.
Hello, First check the vertex color attribute node is added in the shader editor and connected. Check the attribute color name is also assigned in data properties. (You can check my other vertex color tutorial as well). If no color is showing in previews it means vertex color node is needed. If it paints badly that means subdivision modifier is needed. Add it and apply it as well to make the result smoother. Hopefully it will work. or you can share your progress screenshot I will check it. Use blender 3.6 or 4.0
@@Farrukh3D Thank you very much for your help! I checked, everything was connected. But when I downloaded the new version of blender (4.0) it works in it😄
Hi, Thank you! The shorcut is page up / page down to switch between different subdivisions. Important to note is that this works in sculpt mode. Other shortcut is ctrl 1, ctrl 2. Try it, hopefully it work.
Hello, can you please tell me why when you enter the scalp mod, several details immediately change colors, can you please answer as best you can, I’m very interested, I’ll be grateful
Hello, the color changes due to face sets applied. Sometimes blender assign different colors to objects which allows them to be sculpted without affecting other parts and making sculpting easier without masks. There is a face sets menu which allows to create, remove and assign them. You can try to check it. Note they are not always needed and you can sculpt without them also. Thanks!
hello! there is a problem, why is vertex paint not displayed on top of the material preview? that is, when using the material preview mode, it is impossible to draw
If face sets don't show, there is no problem. You can continue without it. Instead, you can click the topology option above the faceset option in brush menu, this will work the same way. Blender can sometimes not create any faceset. There is face sets menu in sculpt mode if you want manually assign. But it is not needed here.
Thank you for the tutorial.I was following it and it was pretty easy, but around 5:00 when i switched to sculp mode, the lower part of the body appeared with a pattern as if it had been doubled somehow and when i move things around it moves the top layer? while the doubled one underneath stays as is . If you could give me a tip on how to solve this that would be great.
Hi, Save your file, close and restart blender. It can be some display bug. Also check there are no two objects created. Check in the outliner. This is most likely a glitch that happens in Blender. I hope closing file and restarting should work.
@Farrukh 3D Hi, unfortunately, this didn't work and I still dont have any clue what is causing the issue. I will try to recreate it again as im still in the beggining of the tutorial and if it happens again i will post somewhere for help. Thank you for your advice.
@@ronnie1264 Sorry to know about that. Try to download the latest blender version 3.5 and see if it works in it. Other thing to try is to copy paste the 3d objects to a new file. Sculpt in a new file with simple objects to test.
Thank you so much for such an amazing tutorial! Could you also make a tutorial on sculpting an anime type stylized girl and a boy... pls it's a request.
Hi, This was my first model in blender and the tutorial helped me a whole lot! I am just wondering how do you get the display at the end with it spinning on the green background? thank you!
Hi, Thank you for your comments. For the spinning animation, I have used the turnaround camera addon built-in in Blender. It creates 360 degrees of camera movement around an object. Here is my tutorial if you like to check it. ruclips.net/video/i1uaQQYlYy0/видео.html

But when I downloaded the new version of blender (4.0) it works in it😄
Hi a really love your video, but I have a question about the page down and up, is the "P" their shortcut? cause if it is, dosent work for me :(
Hi, Thank you! The shorcut is page up / page down to switch between different subdivisions. Important to note is that this works in sculpt mode. Other shortcut is ctrl 1, ctrl 2. Try it, hopefully it work.
@@Farrukh3D thank you so much, have a nice day :D
Hello, can you please tell me why when you enter the scalp mod, several details immediately change colors, can you please answer as best you can, I’m very interested, I’ll be grateful
Hello, the color changes due to face sets applied. Sometimes blender assign different colors to objects which allows them to be sculpted without affecting other parts and making sculpting easier without masks. There is a face sets menu which allows to create, remove and assign them. You can try to check it. Note they are not always needed and you can sculpt without them also. Thanks!
hello! there is a problem, why is vertex paint not displayed on top of the material preview? that is, when using the material preview mode, it is impossible to draw
nice tutorial man! thanks a lot
Thank you!
Hello when I switch to sculpt mode the face sets dont take color even when I checked topology and face sets in the brush menu :( any advice ?
If face sets don't show, there is no problem. You can continue without it. Instead, you can click the topology option above the faceset option in brush menu, this will work the same way. Blender can sometimes not create any faceset. There is face sets menu in sculpt mode if you want manually assign. But it is not needed here.
@@Farrukh3D thx a lot for this fast answer
Face set colors is not showing for me, I have to manually add it and it's taking a long time
Hi, you can skip face sets. You can still follow the steps without them. Just enable the topology setting in the brush menu, it works same way.
Sculpt in a new file with simple objects to test.
моя первая мысль при просмотре: какой классный акцент!😁
Thank you!!!
This was extremely helpful, thank you so much :]
Thank you very much for your comment!
Great tutorial!! :)😃
Thank you very much!
Thank you so much for such an amazing tutorial! Could you also make a tutorial on sculpting an anime type stylized girl and a boy... pls it's a request.
Thank you alot! I will try it and hopefully soon!
Wery useful, thanks ❤
Thank you!
