When I saw them he ran a big muff into a plexi, cranked the volume all the way and ran the volume and sustain on the muff cranked. Tone was like 3 o'clock. They were the second loudest band ive ever seen. Also they had a cardboard sign saying they were looking to buy drugs because they like to party. It was great
Thanks man, tried to get close. Hearing from people that Shep has used a few muff variations over the years. Black Russian, NYC, and recent Green Russian Reissue.
@@DoesItDoom I also thought they tuned lower than D too. Not as in I know, just what my impressions were. Steve Albini captured their pure essence on those recordings. You did a great job with the tone! Its nailed.
Yes !!!!!! Thank you so much ! This is great, I wanted to play "God Luck and Good Speed" in while. Great lesson, killer tone and wonderful teacher as always.
Nice to see a lesson for them not only because they're awesome, but also because it doesn't require to tune down too much. Also, nice tone - the Muff is directly into the Torpedo, set like shown on IG?
@@DoesItDoom would love some info on getting the tone. im currently torn between gear choices but not sure how best to get tone like you. Im thinking about getting a Black arts toneworks pharaoh but then running it into what?
ah cool. I've got some flatwound strings on one of my guitars at the moment, they are pretty different, i really like them in some ways and not so sure in other ways lol
herrlogi I’m running into their clean ‘74 Bassman preamp and using a 4x12 G12-100K Orange Cab IR. Can post the exact settings later tonight. Also running flat wound strings, neck pickup, and big muff set slightly to the bass side of the tone stack.
I’m not sure. Slomatics use them. SOMA uses them in Sunn o))). I really like them, especially for direct recording. They are just so quiet and remove a lot of shrill high end. Plus they feel buttery smooth and add a bit of tension.
I tried flats and I just didn't like them but I'm thinking about giving them another go ,I honestly think if I had them on a guitar and played with them for about a month or so I would get used to them, there worth trying for sure
Same thing with Cough. Such a heavy, brutally visceral sound but most songs are just in D std.. I love that. Don’t get me wrong, I live my A std doom like YOB etc. But to sound so heavy in a fairly ‘high’ tuning, that’s so awesome
ED Diaz I’m a pretty big fan. They just work amazing for direct recording (very low noise, minimal shrill / high treble). Will be a mixture of flat wounds and half wounds for me for the foreseeable future.
I only just discovered Weed Eater recently, they seem to be a pretty cool band. As always, you did an excellent job with the lesson!!! Keep up the great work brother!!! 🤘🤘🤘
Man, your patreon page is by far my best investment this year! Thanks so much!
So glad to hear that brother!
I love this channel because you hear things like "tune UP to standard D". Keep riffin'!!

How the hell did the Plexi not blow up??? Guitar volume must have been on like 0.5 lol
@@joeyjo-joshabadu9636 He said the Plexi was cranked.

The simplest riffs are the bloody best riffs always loved this one!! Great vid Steve!
So good! Thanks for watching.
Playing this through op-amp Big Muff reissue, Les Paul, and a Orange CR-120/two twelves. Dirty fuzz shaking the walls!!
Awesome!
And when I finally got that riff out of my head... THIS!

Josh WW I would have guessed lower than D as well. I think a lot of it comes down to rolling off a lot of treble.

Glad you dig it man!
Yeah! I've been waiting for it for a long time!

Great video, I just need to get a fuzz pedal now to do with justice on a budget so will prob go down the berringer sf300 route
Do you have a video about the tone on your does it doom intro? Sounds ungodly awesome, would love to know how you got that sound.
That audio is from the Fuzzlord Drone Master demo. ruclips.net/video/21E5AbnbJYk/видео.html

herrlogi run it into a clean or slightly broken up amp. Should sound great.
@@DoesItDoom cool yeah ive been hearing about running dirt into a gunned fender princeton. just seems so strange :P
I bought a Sunn Concert Bass precisly because i worship Dixie Dave's tone. Also bescause you never see theme where i'm from tbh.

Hell yeah !! Is it to soon to ask for more Weedeater??? 😆
No!!
awesome! never knew they used flatwound strings, interesting. How about doing some Acid King? maybe Free or Red River
They don’t use flat wounds as far as I know. That’s just what I’m using. Have some Acid King in the works. 🤘🏻

@@DoesItDoom ah flatwounds thats been a long time ago since i played surf rock :) but good idea converting a axe to flats again :)
How common are flatwounds on a guitar in doom? I have flats on my bass but I've only seen jazz players using flats on guitars.
