I have the extended versions of Lord of the Rings and all the extra Peter Jackson filming put extra info about the movie and New Zealand, all interesting and so beautiful💕🌹🏆🏆🏆
My favourite bit of trivia is that he corrected Peter Jackson's direction for how he should react to being stabbed. "That’s not what being stabbed sounds like, it would go like this…" "Uh, how do you know Chris…. Actually never mind."
@@intergalactic92even better is that 007 and such was inspired BY Christopher Lee with his OSS related job against the Nazis of Britain or something like that. And how Ian Flemming was his cousin.
@@Makkaru112 | 007 was actually inspired by Doško Popov who acted as a double agent by serving Mi6 and the nazi Abwehr at the same time. He often called his uncle (who was also some kind of an agent in Yugoslavia) for advice, and his number had 007 at the end, and that's why Fleming gave Bond the code number 007.
20:42 in the book, Frodo was 33 when he received the ring. Frodo turned 50 years old when he left the Shire to destroy The One Ring. It took Gandalf 17 years to find out that the ring Bilbo left his nephew was indeed Sauron's Ring. That's why Gandalf returns to the shire to tell Frodo he needs to leave ASAP. Sam, calls him mr . Frodo out of respect not just because he's his "boss", but also Frodo is older, if I recall correctly the book.
And also because of the difference in wealth. Sam comes from a poor background, which means that his family always had to work for wealthy hobbits (Baggins, Boffins and more). Frodo on the other hand lives with the wealth that Bilbo left him and does not even have to work. Instead he employs Sam to do the gardening.
@@funnyhappystudiosif you didn’t. Don’t watch it vicariously through this guys short video. Get full headset on. Extended edition. Subtitles switched on. Then when it’s done pair it with Phil Dragash audiobooks bringing it all to life. Voices and all and the lore channels that are super fun like Tolkien Untangled, GirlNextGondor, TheRedBook, and so many more!
@jakepolacek6209 not that uncommon, believe it on not. Even for someone who went to film school. It’s not like he’s never heard of it, just hasn’t watched the movies. I know a couple people who went to film school and haven’t seen it, a couple people who have gone to film school, but watched it before they ever went to film school, and I know even more people who have never seen lord of the rings And may have only ever heard of the title. People like me grew up on it because I was a child when the movies came out, but then my family members that are only about 5 to 8 years younger have never watched it either. He may have been too young to Watch it when he was younger, and didn’t really get to watch it until he was an adult
@funnyhappystudios respectfully, don't first watch the extended editions. Pretty much everybody ever who says to do that were people who first watched the theatrical versions. I would watch the theatrical releases, and then one day if I'm into it *then* watch the extended editions. LOTR fans have gotta stop telling people to marathon the extended films cause it just puts people off, and the extended versions also ruin the pacing and have a lot of fluff.
Yeah. I’ve always been a HUGE fan of lotr, and only recently in the past year or so became a HP fan, but now I like and respect both, but lotr will always have a special place in my heart. I’m only recently reading the books, but everything about them is just… perfect 😂
@@ChristopherJames1993 lol reminds me of that episode of South Park where they did a parody of Lord of The Rings and when they were taking the one movie back to the video store they made fun of the kids playing Harry Potter. 😅
At least Jackson adapted existing material. Amazon tried to make the Silmarillion without actually having the rights to it. They're spreading the appendices out like butter over too much bread.@@PeverellTheThird
Avoid Rings Of Power - Amazon waited until Christopher Tolkien died early in the production of its DumpsterFire, his "demand" was that Amazon could use the Appendices to make the show, but they couldn't change the lore. As soon as Christopher died, Amazon delayed the show for reshoots, fired Tom Shippey who was the lead Tolkien scholar & friend of Tolkien himself; they wanted Jackson on the team. PeterJackson asked for the scripts then they ghosted him. Then later when asked about it he basically told them good luck.. You can blame this garbage show on Simon Tolkien, its stink doesn't reach Christopher. Firstly: they merge events (from thousands of years of history & build up towards several events but puts them all into one moment as if it’s happening in the same few years without time jumps or anything.) Guyladriel the murderous one dimensional girlboss heroine version of Galadriel never met Miriel(one of Aragorn’s ancestors) because, as an elf, she would have been sacrificed to Morgoth by the King's Men. The hobbits and Gandalf never met in the 2nd Age because Gandalf was in Valinor till the 3rd Age. Miriel wasn’t even born yet. She was born 300 years before or after the rings of power era. Also Elendil would never say “forget the past and toss it aside.” That’s the whole thing about the Faithful Númenoreans!!! Faithfulness to what’s good. To their elf friends. To the Valar, to Eru Îlluvatar. The way Galadriel acts like Fëanor when he isn’t seeing straight such as how she threatened bloodshed in the highest court of Númenor! The way she isn’t tall, the way she fights rookies doesn’t make her look strong. Should have had her spar with Elendil who was greater than Miriel in many ways even as far as lineage goes too! Have her spar with those greater Numenoreans and let the rookies laugh at their masters being vested by an elf woman holding back from actually hurting them! Now that’d be cool. (Remember. Their whole mantra was to write the book Tolkien never wrote”. Also watch them fake super fans. And then watch their social media that had nothing Tolkien on it ever. Like…. It’s painfully obvious what’s going on here. Same formula towards other titles. They’re just trying to bank on the brand of which that’s the only reason they did this. Just watch Peter Jackson’s new movie coming out and the War of the Rohirim. You’ll see that Brian Cox is involved In it along with Philipa Boyens as well as Actor for Èowyn named Miranda Otto. Fran Walsh I also believe is Involved as well! Watch George The Giant Slayer’s first video regarding the war of the rohirrim. It was beautiful. And he has a wonderful soul too. When I say first video. I don’t mean very first uploaded video though lol. ) There was also no Adar. No poppy. No Nori. No fake Gandalf who literally didn’t come the way he was supposed to which introduces Círdan. And since they screwed up the themes and lore so badly they have to dig in their heels. And they are also being sued by multiple people and groups and companies actually. The rings were forged last and not first. They were not in his sights or touch nor did he even know about them. And also guyladriel wasn’t a murderous Fëanorean either. But the note of the elven rings. They were made last and without the knowledge of Sauron. His touch never got to them. Made in secret so that whole story is thrown out the window as well. And making them first and having the obvious Sauron figure who wasn’t an elf to just be there when they’re making them and have his eye show up in the forge which wasn’t even the worst of it. The greatest of elven smiths still around which is Celebrimbor doesn’t even know what alloying is. Not to mention all their environmental scandals on top of bad CGI stuff. Full of copy past crowds and plagerisms up the wazoo. It’s also getting sued by several people and groups. I’ll also remind you that they just ran an old sick horse til it died of cardiac arrest and then only had a ten min coffee break to loosely honour this horse. Not to mention Tolkien loved animals in a deep way. They also have been causing environmental damage one of which being King Charles ancient forest to make a set. It’s scandal after scandal. And the fire in studio that took four hours to put out with firemen for yet another example. PS they don’t have the rights to the Silmarillion nor anything much of the second age let alone the first. Only the trilogy books and their appendices…. Remember that they also plagiarized tonnes of films in nontasteful instead of true a homage way… “tempest in me” but when threatening Fëanorean level bloodshed in the court of Numenor was from Cate Blanchett’s Elizabeth role which was done with grace and poise of a veteran actress(which doesn’t even sound like anything those of the great chill house of Finarfin would even act like. Again it’d be best to put Elrond there due to Elros. But ooook let’s make girlboss do everything. Even if it continues to make zero sense. )😍 fact they downplayed Elendil, Gil-Galad and Finrod is beyond infuriating and not explaining Elwing, Elronds mother beyond just showing her as a swan was pure LOLism. Like. What’s worse is Grandpabimbor…. Let’s not forget good ol’ Guyladriel either. The LOTR version of Star Wars’ Rey! Guyladriel the Female Fëanor without any of his charms and subtleties and wit… just the bloody violent rages…
In five years time when you go back to watch this Morgan, the shire scenes will also be your favorite parts like your friend. They are so wholesome and done perfectly. What a film, what a trilogy, the third one I think won the most oscars ever, or tied for most. Superbly made films.
You must know a few things regarding sir Christopher. He it was, among the entire cast and crew, who was the only person who ever met Tolkien personally. He also said that he so loved this story that he read the entire series every year of his adult life. He also was a member of Wild Bill Donovan's OSS, the wartime precursor to the CIA, as an agent behind enemy lines.
I don’t know if anyone else has said it, but the reason Frodo always seems to be in trouble is BECAUSE he’s wearing the ring, not because he’s clumsy or careless. Evil is attracted to him because the ring calls to them.
it was also lowkey because Merry and Pippin were with them causing issues especially Pippin since no one at all informed them of whats been going on, Merry on the other hand at least put two and two together midway into the journey.
@@ellie_jeann Movie-wise this is true. Book Merry and Pippin knew from the jump what the deal was, and purposely planned to journey with Frodo. They were well-prepared and convinced Frodo to let them go. It was just that Pippin was the youngest and pretty immature, and had not yet reached Hobbit adulthood.
@ellie_jeann Yeah, most of his 'screw ups' in the movie aren't even really his fault. Nobody told him what was going on, he didnt know he wasn't suppose to say Baggins, or throw a rock in a pond. When he jumped out of his hiding spot at the end, he wouldn't have seen the orcs from where ged been and of course he tried to go to his friend who was about to run off to Mordor alone. I dont have an excuse for Moria, though. It was pretty weird he was poking a dwarf corpse to begin with
Your wee pal on the right is so cool, I feel his excitement, and he’s so quick to geek over lore and Tolkien. It’s so sweet, fuck yeah man I feel you so heavy on that one. It’s awesome
Love that your LOTR fan friend joined you in this first watch! There is so much lore to this story, but also to these movies, like how they were filmed, bts scenes etc. I would love to see your reaction for the making of the movies, as a fellow movie lover. It's amazing what they were able to do, consideringthe years they were filmed!!
To answer your question, yes, Frodo knows how to swim. He learned after his parents drowned. Most hobbits are distrustful of water and boats and don't swim.
5:25 Of course, the extended version is the the director’s cut. With more scene that was cut because of budgeting. Plus, give us more information about the mystery of this world. And the extended version is almost identical to the original.
It was meant to stay as it was. The theatre version was forced abridged versions. The cinemas greedy choice. Or PJ and team wouldn’t get debut. version. It wasn’t meant to be cut up). Peter Jackson’s passion project team was forced to not show their full content as it would cut into what the cinema CEOs literally called the theatrical edition to get more screen time in and more mulla for themselves. It’s a such a nasty business. 80 percent true that money be the root of all evil. It’s the reason the real pumped out the EE as fast as possible in DVD format since they wanted people to see the whole movie invites completion. But he just announced that’s he found 1300 hours worth of footage from a warehouse he finally got access to so we will see more specially made super extended edition cinema extravaganzas that no cinema would pass on the opportunity to ride on his coattails again. The EE wasn’t just for fans. He literally was adapting the books to film as honestly as possible. the DVD documentaries showed that they didn’t want to cut anything. And weaselled around things to create the EE. (EE is extended edition by the way! ❤️). Without the extended for the next two films I always say “Good luck missing the Boromir backstory. Good luck explaining why the cloak turns into a rock. Good luck explaining the elves that had explained their current situation since the first film. It all ties together good luck skipping the gift scene with Galadriel and Celeborn and the extra scenes between Aragorn and Celeborn & Galadriel to Aragorn!” It’s seriously needed for the film worldbuilding and heightening the stakes. Also, I’d rather have faith people have the emotional and intellectual IQ high enoug to understand it or shall we have changed the title to something else same as how JK was forced to change the title in America to sorcerers stone instead of PHILOSPHER as Americans don’t even know what a Philospher is anymore these days which is sad. Relating to that: Tolkien was very sad about people losing connection to their past and heritage etc!
I’m so happy you’re watching these movies! Within the last month, I’ve read all the HP books for the first time and fell down the rabbit hole that is your HP video collection. Just a few days ago, I also watched all of the LOTR movies for the first time and have started the books. Seeing that you’re also getting into LOTR is such a treat and I can’t wait to see how you react to them. I hope you dive into the books immediately after. Enjoy the journey!
2:45 ive been obsessed with lord of the rings since i was 10. I used to wish i was an elf and loved all things elf. Now in my 30s im all about that hobbit life ❤
One of my favorite movie trilogies of all time, so I’m glad that you are finally getting around to watching it! And happy to hear that you plan on doing a part two (And maybe part three?) Of these videos. If you end up enjoying the series enough, it would be awesome to See you possibly do deep dives, or even “The Life of…” series of some of the characters (though Not sure how you would do it without reading the books). Anyway, hope you enjoy the journey Morgan :)
I thought Boromir was going to loose his head when I saw the scene, and I haven't had seen Game of Thrones still I think some association slipped through even tho the only thing about sean bean i recognised was his name from some distant memory
@@Makkaru112 I think he's referring to a scene that's only in the extended edition of the last film. Mouth of Sauron. IIRC he's not in the theatrical version at all.
Sam is actually twelve years younger than Frodo, who was actually fifty when he set out with the ring, a detail the movies leave out because of how young Elijah Wood was when he was cast. In the book seventeen years pass between Frodo getting the ring and him setting out on his quest, but because the actor was so young they had to change the character. He was a lot less wimpy or dramatic in the book.
All the references to Harry Potter are understandable if that’s all you know, but, just for context, the books these movies were based on were published about 12 years before J.K. Rowling was born.
In terms of “best friend”… it’s Sam. And this isn’t even an argument in the slightest chance. Ron was beefing with Harry for 1/4 of their time as friends, but Sam followed Frodo to hell and back (almost literally) 😂
Gandalf bumping into Harry to look for Frodo: Gandalf says: I have to be certain it is you. Describe your best friend. Harry answers: A guy with wild red her, who lives in a burrow and what he lacks of intelligence, he makes it up again with loyalty. Would Gandalf fall for that? Or would he notice something is different.
Sam is pretty much Frodos Batman (military term for a personal servant). It's a very close, sacred relationship. Tolkien was very connected to that during his time during WW1.
The ring doesn’t automatically give everyone who bears it power. It amplifies the qualities you already posses so if someone like Aragorn were to bear the ring, he would would become very powerful. But it would also corrupt his mind, or anyone’s mind who keeps it for too long. That’s the reason why their only choice was to destroy it.
Gives power according to the individual and their will. So for a salt of the earth hobbit there’s not much and little corruption. But to Aragorn, Gandalf, or Galadriel it would be just as bad as Sauron having the Ring back.
hp, chronicles of narnia, and lotr are my absolute favorite books that turned into movies of all time. its so amazing that my fav hp yter started posting lotr content, keep it up!
I think the length and thinness of it would have worked the same for defense if they had handrails. Im convinced they just liked to laugh at people who were afraid of heights. Personally, if I had to cross that to get into Moria, id go home.
This video was so fun!! As someone who has seen these movies so many times it was fun to see your reactions watching for the first time, excited for the rest of the series!
The craziest thing about Tolkien's creation here is that the world he made up is far larger and more detailed than we can see in the film, or in the book. It has an entire mythology (which this becomes a part of) with a celestial hierarchy, prophecies, etc. and thousands of years of history. And as for the languages, Tolkien constructed whole language families, complete with their respective histories and very naturalistic language development. Even the languages of Mordor, which only appear as a couple of lines in the books, are complete with dialects and more. And more still-the "Common Speech", which English is standing here for, is also its own thing. Middle-Earth existed way before the Hobbit and LOTR, and only because of these projects did Tolkien ever decide to Anglicize names and words in it. So, for example, place names and the surnames of the Hobbits sound completely differently in-universe. Bilbo Baggins is apparently actually "Bilba Labingi".
Please keep doing more first time watching reaction videos like this, they are so fun and you and your friends are such great audiences and reactors! :-)
Enjoyed watching the movie with you! I usually comment fairly extensively on ambiguous scenes, but you guys seem to have it pretty well worked out. Looking forward to the next one.
Make sure you understand the LOTR's was written half a century before HP and just how much was lifted from the LOTR's by J. K. Rowling. Give credit where credit is due.
Christopher Lee read the Lord of the Rings every year from its publication until his death, and he was the only member of the cast to have actually met JRR Tolkien.
This is edited so much better than most first time watching so and so videos, you transition between the movie and the commentary at jus the right times
I'm glad you chose to watch the extended version because there's a lot of really good scenes that are exclusive to that version, such as the woodelves scene, beautiful scene from the book
Indeed. Here is what they would have missed- Frodo/Sam's first meeting with the elves, providing context for Valinor and the elves journey there, as referenced throughout the films and seen at the end of the Return of the King(connects to the passing of the elves in the beginning of their leaving the shire when Frodo and Sam are near the Old Forest by the Shire which leads them to eventually bumping into Merry And Pippin! (An epic scene with Gandalf in Rivendell was also removed as well.) 2. Aragorn singing the Lay of Luthien, providing a parallel between the events of the Beren and Luthien and Aragorn's relationship with Arwen of which every reactor channel I’ve seen makes the connection and it pulls them into a deeper understanding of their relationship every single time. 3. Aragorn kneeling at his mother's grave, giving him some additional backstory for the viewer. 4. Gandalf explaining to Frodo about the corruptive power of the Ring, and how it will strain the Fellowship from the inside, foreshadowing Boromir's downfall. 5. Sam singing a lament for Gandalf, providing more emotional weight to Gandalf's death, referencing the start of the movie and strengthening the connection between him and the Hobbits ( also highlights Tolkien's love of song and poetry in the books). 6. Galadriel giving the gifts to the Fellowship, providing context for their appearance in later films, as well as drawing a parallel between Gimli's gift and the events of the Silmarillion (Fëanor & Galadriel). That’s just the beginning. Including several removed scenes between Aragorn & Galadriel and Aragorn with her husband Celeborn! 7• also the opening explaining Hobbits & their culture to the viewers, so they have a better understanding of these peoples we will be following which also was the direct full chapter called Concerning Hobbits.
It's WILD seeing someone watch this for the first time after all these years! LotR defined my entire childhood/teenage years (probably what HP was to a lot of you all. I joined the HP fandom way late). I know these movies like the back of my hand. They'll forever be my favorite films of all time not just for the nostalgia but also because I truly think they're a masterpiece unlike anything that's come before them or after them. Bold statement, I know. But I stand by it. It's safe to say, I'm here for ANY LotR content you want to release! haha
Frodo is actually quite a bit older than Sam. I can't remember their exact ages, but Sam is in his late 20's/early 30's and Frodo is in his 50's. Plus, Frodo is his employer and he's a Baggins. There's some power behind the name.
I really hope the two towers video comes out soon! It's really cool that you're actually watching this for the first time. Your reactions are just like mine when i first watched last year 😂
Fun fact: Borimire's lines got changed so many times that Sean Bean actually had to have the script taped to his thigh (or knee), that's why he was making frustrated looks
Another fun fact: when boromir dies there is a choir in the back and they sing a song in Elvish. The lyrics translate into "I do not lovr a sword for its sharpnes nor an arrow for its swiftness not the wortior for its glory. I love only what they defend." And for bonus points this is said in the book by Faramir boromir's little brother.
When Boromir dies the trio literally converses with the winds via song and there are great covers of it. Clamavi de Profundis as we as Karlienne. There is a quartet of guys who take the part of each character of the three hunters which is super beautiful. Aragorn sang: Through Rohan over fen and field where the long grass grows The West Wind comes walking, and about the walls it goes. ‘What news from the West, O wandering wind, do you bring to me tonight? Have you seen Boromir the Tall by moon or by starlight? ‘I saw him ride over seven streams, over waters wide and grey, I saw him walk in empty lands until he passed away Into the shadows of the North, I saw him then no more. The North Wind may have heard the horn of the son of Denethor, ‘O Boromir! From the high walls westward I looked afar, But you came not from the empty lands where no men are.’ Then Legolas sang: From the mouths of the Sea the South Wind flies, from the sandhills and the stones, The wailing of the gulls it bears, and at the gate it moans. ‘What news from the South, O sighing wind, do you bring to me at eve? Where now is Boromir the Fair? He tarries and I grieve. ‘Ask not of me where he doth dwell - so many bones there lie, On the white shores and the dark shores under the stormy sky, So many have passed down Anduin to find the flowing Sea. Ask of the North Wind news of them the North Wind sends to me!’ ‘O Boromir! Beyond the gate the seaward road runs south, But you came not with the wailing gulls from the grey sea’s mouth’. Then Aragorn sang again: From the Gate of the Kings the North Wind rides, and past the roaring falls, And clear and cold about the tower its loud horn calls. ‘What news from the North, O mighty wind, do you bring to me today? What news of Boromir the bold? For he is long away.’ ‘Beneath Amon Hen I heard his cry. There many foes he fought, His cloven shield, his broken sword, they to the water brought. His head so proud, his face so fair, his limbs they laid to rest, And Rauros, golden Rauros-falls, bore him upon its breast. ‘O Boromir! The Tower of Guard shall ever northward gaze, To Rauros, golden Rauros-falls, until the end of days. Gimli then commented that they left the east wind to him, but he would not sing of it. Aragorn responded that the people of Gondor endure the east wind but do not ask it for tidings, because in that direction lies Mordor and the Evil in the East -
Thanks for mentioning this! I totally right to say that. Tolkiens scholarly works are a blessing and have saved many lives equal to the amount of lives that got inspired to cause them into striving to become better human beings ❤
A detail the movies leave out is that the reason Isildur took the ring was because he saw it as what was referred to as weregild, a fine that would be exacted from a murderer. Isildur's father Elendil and brother Anarion were both killed by Sauron, so Isildur took the ring as payment for those deaths.
I've seen both LOTR and Harry Potter (including all your content) so many timees but I never made the connection how similar they were until watching this and seeing you connect the dots. I will FOREVER consider Merry and Pippen as Fred & George from now on
I feel like a video with the topic which houses would the LOTR characters be in. Gryffindor: Aragorn, Éowyn, Merry, Pippin and Gimli Slytherin: Sauron, Saruman, Boromir, Gollum and Grima Ravenclaw: Gandalf, Elrond, Galadriel, Cirdan and Tom Bombadil Hufflepuff: Sam, Frodo, Faramir, Arwen and Hamfast Gamgee.
@@danielpotapczuk2155Faramir is definitely a Ravenclaw. He loves lore and music, and though he’ll fight for Gondor if he must, he doesn’t care for fighting as much as his older brother. Faramir even showed compassion for Gollum, but much of his character was changed heavily for the movies.
@@JaMarcusRussellGOAT I agree that he could be a Ravenclaw, too. But I still think that he fits better into Hufflepuff. He is not interested to fight for glory, he is interested to fight for the right thing. That is very much like a Hufflepuff. On top of that Faramir is very much down to earth and he is always loyal to Gondor and Ithilien, especially when Aragorn is king. And he has a great sense of being just. I think he fulfills nearly every trait a Hufflepuff can have.
Aragorn, "I do not know what strength is in my blood. But i swear to you that I will not let the White City to ruin. Nor our people fail." Boromir, "Our people....I would have followed you, my brother, my catpain,... my king."
Honestly forgot my boy who went for Keanu Reeves’ throat in The Matrix, Mr Wilford from the Snowpiercer tv series and The Guy from Spy-Kids: Game Over were in this movie. Also forgot how og Magneto from X-Men was the one who said “you shall not pass”
Honestly so delighted for you to finally enjoy these films Morgan. I've always balanced my love firmly between the Lord of the rings Film trilogy and Harry Potter. Although hands down Jacksons vision, location scouting and brilliance has always dominated for me. Unlike the HP's, it's refreshing in the fact all three films are directed by the same hand and were literally interwoven in shooting. The scale of what was achieved is unmatched, unparalleled and unbelievable. And the fact its inspired from stories written by a professor of languages and literature who designed a book of genesis and a world with thousands of years of rich tangible history with comparisons to mythology...just steeps it that much more in awe x
I can’t believe you have seen the lord of the rings!! You have to go through and read the books. Such a great series, and Andy Serkis has done the audiobooks recently which is amazing. I loved seeing your genuine enthusiasm and questioning which was literally getting answered in the next scene.
Bro has a whole RUclips dedicated to popular book franchises like Harry Potter, Percy Jackson and Hunger Games and yet hasn't seen LOTR? How is this possible?
When this came out after 9/11, Gandalf's words to Frodo in Moria about everyone wishing they could avoid the trials of their age, but all we have to do is decide what to do with the time we were given? He healed America with those words. No lie. There was a palpable shift in emotion in the theaters every time I went to see it when we got to that line. And the audience kind of ... relaxed. Like, a tension we didn't realize we were still carrying left us. And it was at Gandalf's words in Moria.
20:29 fun fact about the CGI: for the battle scenes, they wrote a program that would create all the background armies fighting each other. But they wrote these soldiers too intelligently so that half of each army *fled* the battlefield! So they had to dumb them down.
A surprise that you didn't know of these golden movies before, glad you do now! To clarify, Sauron is a Maia spirit who are immortal and can ressurect and reform a body. Wizards are also Maia as well as the Balrog, bit the latter is a fallen one. Wizards use their voice as primary source of magical power. They are diminished in power compared to their angellic forms and can die, unless.... Also, as others mentioned, Sir Christopher Lee was the only one to have actually met JRR Tolkien. Loved this when I found out! Sir Christopher was perfect and killed it in all his scenes. For more about how it all began, I'd recommend the Silmarillion.
Literally just finished reading the Silmarillion an hour ago, having read LOTR and the Hobbit in the past. There's so much detail that would absolutely nuke your mind if you knew going in. For example, Sauron hasn't been a major threat for very long, only about 5000 years, give or take, and he's been dormant for at least 2/3's of that time; Saruman started his own quest for power about 500 years before LOTR, and is not a servant of Sauron; both of them are drops in a bucket compared to Morgoth, who is basically Satan. You see, his real name is Melkor, and he's Sauron's supervisor, but his actions caused some much death and destruction that, as a small example, there's a pile of corpses large enough to be considered a hill, and it's currently underneath the ocean and far to the northwest of the shire because a large chunk of Middle Earth sank. His reign of terror started when the universe was born and came to a close 6000 years before LOTR.
Pair it only with Unfinished Tales and all the other books. Ontop of watch all the videos by GirlNextGondor, TheRedBook, Tolkien Untangled, CouncilOfTheRing(who did a masterful rewrite of ROP), and also PhilosopherGames!
The universe wasn’t 6000 years. Tolkien mended this. And it’s mapped out in nature of middle earth and anthology of middle earth books etc. here was eons of time where the Valar were creating and tending to the world before elves even woke to the stars. Also. Years back then before the sun and moon were way longer. Many ages between ages. Seasons between seasons that only the elves have named. Like the gateway between winter and spring etc.
Saruman never served Sauron nor bent to him at all in the books. The Gandalf locked in the Tower bit is explained ONLY in the Unfinished Tales Book: In [manuscript-C) The Black Riders arrived at the Gate of Isengard while Gandalf was still a prisoner in the tower. In this account, Saruman, in fear & despair, & perceiving the full horror of service to Mordor, resolved suddenly to yield to Gandalf, & to beg for his pardon & help. Temporizing at the Gate, he admitted that he had Gandalf within, & said that he would go & try to discover what he knew; if that were unavailing, he would deliver Gandalf up to them. Then Saruman hastened to the summit of Orthanc - & found Gandalf gone. Away south against the setting moon he saw a great Eagle flying towards Edoras. See, the thing is he was always master of studying the enemy & even being able to think like they do to always know exactly the best ways to handle ever situation and so on, but the thing is he didn't just become the enemy, he at this time in a sense for once actually grew afraid of him, probably Sauron did what Sauron did with Finrod Felagund(Galadriel’s elder brother who by the way was the most important in the Legendarium & is the main reason the third age even exists) which basically widdled Saruman with various visions of the past and future until it wore him down, but Saruman(Curumo) was the mostly already becoming weary due to what was called The along Defeat, magic bleeding out from the lands of middle earth and subsequently certain things become less and less possible and the elves begin to go west. Even the ones who never wished to leave middle earth and many of which were born here by the thousands. So him also being a student and helper of Aulë of the Valar he was going to fight fire with fire and make a bid for the ring just so Sauron could never regain full power and if Saruman found a way to release himself from his power restrictions even by any small margin or worked with Eru in some way it might have worked out in the end if things went differently enough to where such action from him would be needed. Ontop of that he was growing ever jealous of Gandalf for he received the Varya from Círdan and prior to that was chosen by the other Valar, Nienna’s chosen champion to go to middle earth. But Gandalf(Olórin back then) refused over and over and exclaimed his fear of Sauron(Mairon), varya I feel would have kindle the heart of Saruman to stay strong as he had been fighting the evils of the world for a very long time since he had been sent to Middle Earth. And for the is reason Saruman wished to hold the ring at hostage. Keep Sauron from taking back his full strength and basically use it to stave off The Long Defeat
Check my other comments to see just how these different timespans were like. It’s why certain phenols and types of events could take place. Magic hadn’t bled from the world yet in this first version playing out from the first Ainulindalë etc.
I love movie commentary videos so I'm really glad to see you moving into more of this content! Have you seen Pretty Much It or their HP movie commentary? Highly recommend- it's hilarious!
The trilogy is one of the best movie adaptions of a book series ive ever seen the harry potter movies. Watch these and the hobit movies and youll be glad you did. 10/10
My first Lord of the Rings video! A little different style, but a very fun one. I hope you guys enjoy!
P.S. Lord of the Rings Lore videos coming soon
J.K.Rowling had many inspirations from this book series
I look excessively forward to them.
Do a book vs film on the lord of the rings trilogy please
Hell yeah! Love this series! Can’t wait!
You should do a bad Batch season 3 vid, that would be cool❤
The whole lore behind the LOTR is even more amazing. Tolkien really put his heart and soul into the whole story.
I have the extended versions of Lord of the Rings and all the extra Peter Jackson filming put extra info about the movie and New Zealand, all interesting and so beautiful💕🌹🏆🏆🏆
@@judywright4241you’ll love Alan Lee’s documentary travel archeology videos titled “searching for hobbits”

I love how they explain it to him in HP language like "that's like a Horcrux"
Armies of middle-earth rolled in their graves when he called Gandalf Dumbledore
and spoiling everything
Christopher Lee actually knew Tolkien in real life and was super dedicated to playing his role as Saruman even though he wanted to be cast as Gandalf
He did it perfectly
My favourite bit of trivia is that he corrected Peter Jackson's direction for how he should react to being stabbed. "That’s not what being stabbed sounds like, it would go like this…"
"Uh, how do you know Chris…. Actually never mind."
@@intergalactic92even better is that 007 and such was inspired BY Christopher Lee with his OSS related job against the Nazis of Britain or something like that. And how Ian Flemming was his cousin.
He met him ONE TIME
@@Makkaru112 | 007 was actually inspired by Doško Popov who acted as a double agent by serving Mi6 and the nazi Abwehr at the same time.
I was going to post something similar but I scanned the comments first to see if someone else got to it first.
This is like...a rarity, someone who's never seen it!

Someone who went to film school never saw the lord of the rings ?? Huhhhhh???? How ?

I don't believe you haven't seen this! To be such a potter nerd too, you'd think it'd be right down your alley.

TAKE IT BACK! TAKE IT BACK!
Never compare a masterpiece to a fanfic! 😂
@@okami-chan9772In that case Jackson's adaptations count as fanfic too.
I don’t mean very first uploaded video though lol. )
There was also no Adar. No poppy.
Even if it continues to make zero sense. )😍
fact they downplayed Elendil, Gil-Galad and Finrod is beyond infuriating and not explaining Elwing, Elronds mother beyond just showing her as a swan was pure LOLism.

Agreed!
It’s like having an item in a video game which gives you a debuff that makes enemies more likely to target you
it was also lowkey because Merry and Pippin were with them causing issues especially Pippin since no one at all informed them of whats been going on, Merry on the other hand at least put two and two together midway into the journey.

It all ties together good luck skipping the gift scene with Galadriel and Celeborn and the extra scenes between Aragorn and Celeborn & Galadriel to Aragorn!”
It’s seriously needed for the film worldbuilding and heightening the stakes.

What about the toe breaker
Which beheading ?
@@Makkaru112 I think he's referring to a scene that's only in the extended edition of the last film. Mouth of Sauron. IIRC he's not in the theatrical version at all.
For a moment I thought you were talking about Ned Stark.
A Samwise vs Ron battle as the best hero’s best friend
Uhhhh book or movie?
In terms of “best friend”… it’s Sam. And this isn’t even an argument in the slightest chance. Ron was beefing with Harry for 1/4 of their time as friends, but Sam followed Frodo to hell and back (almost literally) 😂
Sam lol. He has always been loyal and never left his side.
Sam all the way. This man was so fucking loyal to frodo some even fucking cried seeing it
Gandalf bumping into Harry to look for Frodo:
Gandalf says: I have to be certain it is you. Describe your best friend.
Harry answers: A guy with wild red her, who lives in a burrow and what he lacks of intelligence, he makes it up again with loyalty.
Would Gandalf fall for that? Or would he notice something is different.
OMG I WAS WAITIIG FOR THIS DAY FOR THE LONGEST TIME. I hope you love it!!
Sam is pretty much Frodos Batman (military term for a personal servant). It's a very close, sacred relationship. Tolkien was very connected to that during his time during WW1.
For almost my six years of watching the channel I always found it strange he never did lots videos. Now it might be possible
Meanwhile Galadriel never needed power. Check out the comments I put beneath this video. It explains why.
The bridge of Khazad-Dum not having railings is really an effective defensive strategy, over the existence of the bridge in the first place.
I’m so excited! I love these movies!
Amazing watch party, Morgan! It was well worth the wait!
They be explaining it in HP language and now I finally get what’s going on 😂
The craziest thing about Tolkien's creation here is that the world he made up is far larger and more detailed than we can see in the film, or in the book.
The twin towers joke at the end actually had me go Jesus Christ which is rare for a movieflame video
THANK YOU for sharing this wonderful experience with us.
This series instantly became my favourite after watching the last movie. None can top this
14:07 The most impressive part about this shot is that it is an extreme close up of a shiny object, but there is no camera reflection.

DAMN I WAITED SO LONG FOR THIS MORGAN
Enjoyed watching the movie with you! I usually comment fairly extensively on ambiguous scenes, but you guys seem to have it pretty well worked out. Looking forward to the next one.
Make sure you understand the LOTR's was written half a century before HP and just how much was lifted from the LOTR's by J. K. Rowling. Give credit where credit is due.
Oh I know don’t worry
Christopher Lee read the Lord of the Rings every year from its publication until his death, and he was the only member of the cast to have actually met JRR Tolkien.
This is edited so much better than most first time watching so and so videos, you transition between the movie and the commentary at jus the right times
So excited to see you dive down the rabbit hole!! Tolkien’s stories are all amazing!
(An epic scene with Gandalf in Rivendell was also removed as well.)
@@Makkaru112Yep. All beautiful scenes
Aragorn sang:
Through Rohan over fen and field where the long grass grows
The West Wind comes walking, and about the walls it goes.
‘What news from the West, O wandering wind, do you bring to me tonight?
Have you seen Boromir the Tall by moon or by starlight?
‘I saw him ride over seven streams, over waters wide and grey,
I saw him walk in empty lands until he passed away
Into the shadows of the North, I saw him then no more.
The North Wind may have heard the horn of the son of Denethor,
‘O Boromir! From the high walls westward I looked afar,
But you came not from the empty lands where no men are.’
Then Legolas sang:
From the mouths of the Sea the South Wind flies, from the sandhills and the stones,
The wailing of the gulls it bears, and at the gate it moans.
‘What news from the South, O sighing wind, do you bring to me at eve?
Where now is Boromir the Fair? He tarries and I grieve.
‘Ask not of me where he doth dwell - so many bones there lie,
On the white shores and the dark shores under the stormy sky,
So many have passed down Anduin to find the flowing Sea.
Ask of the North Wind news of them the North Wind sends to me!’
‘O Boromir! Beyond the gate the seaward road runs south,
But you came not with the wailing gulls from the grey sea’s mouth’.
Then Aragorn sang again:
From the Gate of the Kings the North Wind rides, and past the roaring falls,
And clear and cold about the tower its loud horn calls.
‘What news from the North, O mighty wind, do you bring to me today?
What news of Boromir the bold? For he is long away.’
‘Beneath Amon Hen I heard his cry. There many foes he fought,
His cloven shield, his broken sword, they to the water brought.
His head so proud, his face so fair, his limbs they laid to rest,
And Rauros, golden Rauros-falls, bore him upon its breast.
‘O Boromir! The Tower of Guard shall ever northward gaze,
To Rauros, golden Rauros-falls, until the end of days.
Gimli then commented that they left the east wind to him, but he would not sing of it. Aragorn responded that the people of Gondor endure the east wind but do not ask it for tidings, because in that direction lies Mordor and the Evil in the East

Thanks for mentioning this! I totally right to say that. Tolkiens scholarly works are a blessing and have saved many lives equal to the amount of lives that got inspired to cause them into striving to become better human beings ❤
Guys, remember that The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings came first before Harry Potter, by decades and decades. Gandalf came first.
Dude thank you so much I've been asking for this for years!
As someone who's been a LotR fan since before the movies came out, this was so wholesome to watch. Can't wait for the next instalments!
djis you have a lot of great lotr reactions to watch if you think this was wholesome
Watching this makes me wish I could watch LOTR for the first time again! MovieFlame’s innocence throughout this is just so Damn Wholesome!
I will FOREVER consider Merry and Pippen as Fred & George from now on
I feel like a Voldemort vs Sauron, Harry vs Frodo and middle earth vs Wizarding world video series is in the future
I feel like a video with the topic which houses would the LOTR characters be in.
Gryffindor: Aragorn, Éowyn, Merry, Pippin and Gimli
Slytherin: Sauron, Saruman, Boromir, Gollum and Grima
Ravenclaw: Gandalf, Elrond, Galadriel, Cirdan and Tom Bombadil
Hufflepuff: Sam, Frodo, Faramir, Arwen and Hamfast Gamgee.
So awesome seeing your joy in watching this! Love all the books and movies.
Can't wait for the two towers video to come out and he has to drop the Viggo broken toe trivia. Because it's the law.
Shhhhhh 🤫😂😂
Some fun little facts about the staffs in this movie, Gandalf uses his staff as a pipe holder and saramons staff is a replica of his tower
Aragorn, "I do not know what strength is in my blood. But i swear to you that I will not let the White City to ruin. Nor our people fail."
Boromir, "Our people....I would have followed you, my brother, my catpain,... my king."
No waaay! I’ve always wondered Why you never talk about LOTR. But now it makes sense.
Im so excited to see your reaction
Watch the extended version of the trilogy because it turns the movies from a masterpiece to the greatest trilogy of all time
We are watching the extended editions!
@@MovieFlametimestamps please
If I got 10 cents for every reactor saying "Dumbledore!" at the first sight of Gandalf, I could have bought Twitter back by now.
Been waiting for this forever. My favorite movies. The music makes them that much better
They skipped the "Second Breakfast" part!! That is unforgivable!! Lol
I love that you start out with the extended edition as it is definitely the best!
Yo, that's cool. Welcome to the LOTR fandom man. Hope you enjoyed it, Morgan! 😊❤
I was so genuinely THRILLED to watch you watch this for the first time! Can’t wait to see the reaction at the end of the third movie ❤
Just wanna say, this was so fun to unwind with after a stressful work day. Can't wait to see the others!
I can’t believe you are only just starting LOTR. Whole new rabbit hole for you.
youre gonna have a blast with this lore my guy
When this came out after 9/11, Gandalf's words to Frodo in Moria about everyone wishing they could avoid the trials of their age, but all we have to do is decide what to do with the time we were given? He healed America with those words. No lie. There was a palpable shift in emotion in the theaters every time I went to see it when we got to that line. And the audience kind of ... relaxed. Like, a tension we didn't realize we were still carrying left us. And it was at Gandalf's words in Moria.
so excited to see your reaction to battles in the 2nd and 3rd movie they are so fucking amazing
He never needed power. He’s a of the Maiar. Lol
I love this!! cant believe you had not seen it before! (Hope you guys watched the extended version)
He answered one guy saying it was but I’d like timestamps to prove it
I still have all 3 LotR on VSH 📼. They came out while I was finishing jr high.
