I have the Optik setup. It's by far the best gear I've ever worn. I was so torn on what to get but I'm so glad I went with the Optik. Pads slide incredible. Like it's not even close to any ccm or reebok pad I've worn. Huge booming rebounds. Lightweight. Quick and easy to put on. The profile is ridiculously thin. And its Brian's quality. Glove feels so premium when you put your hand in it. I love my 590 but it feels like a senior level glove in comparison. The optik pocket puts the 590 to shame. Closes very well. Comfortable to hold at any angle. Blocker is super light and the palm material is very thin so it makes gripping the stick that much easier. If you're debating on pads I'd go Optik they're just incredible.
The shit goalies use today is way huge.And the protection is looking good.The stuff I used in the 60s- 70s is like wrapping up in cotton compared to it.Plus the old shit weighted a ton.Is it true sticks are up to 300 bucks?When I switched to goal in 63 my first goal stick was 6 dollars and that was a lot back when.
I’ve always switched back and forth between Brians’s and Vaughn’s since the 90’s. I personally believe their pads are made of the highest quality, handcrafted and designed for goalies. The other hockey companies like Bauer, Reebok and warrior just mass produce products with the intent of just making money. They can afford to advertise in the NHL and skimp on quality because people will buy them regardless. I switched to Bauer to try out the 1s line and I actually enjoy them but I can tell the difference on quality from my old real leather Brian’s and Vaughn’s.
Those are uhhh....interesting looking. Edit: why does the padding for your index finger on your blocker not move with your finger? Was the glove and padding just not sewed together? Might want to fix that before you get hit there and break a finger.
Just an FYI, if you're looking for Brian's toe strap system, Crow's Sports makes one that is exactly the same but with double stitching and double velcro. go to crowssports.com and to the GOALIE tab and its the crows toes
I picked up some Brians myself. Let me know if you have any tips on the toe strapping velcro system. Could be because of the design of my skate chassis/cowling, but I can't seem to get it tight enough. Coming from regular toe ties on some Vaughns, thinking about going back to laces.
