A movie-loving petrolhead has spent $125,000 to create his dream car - the Mad Max Interceptor. Michigan born Dale Walter, 50, fell in love with the powerful vehicle when he watched George Miller's seminal film over thirty years ago in a tiny theatre, where he told his friend 'someday I will own that car'. The famous car has featured in three of filmmaker Miller's four pictures, including the latest Mad Mad: Fury Road, starring British actor Tom Hardy in the title role. In 2008, Dale commissioned specialist company Mad Max Cars to convert his 1972 Australian Ford Falcon into the iconic Interceptor - a process which took five years and $125,000.

I think what's even more impressive than the car is that he's maintained a friendship with that one guy he saw the movie with for over 30 years.
True! But the friendship ended once he found out he had the car.
Actually yes lol
The twist to the story was his friend for 30 years came around to his house and raped the car , very sad but true story
@@adamjohnston5250 ha? 🤨

As a motorcyclist, my worst fear is seeing this guy in my rear view mirror.

" My life fades, my vision dims.
All that remains are memories.
I remember a time of chaos, ruined dreams, this wasted land.
Most of all, I remember the man we called Max, the road warrior. "
Awesome recitment
Then you get sucked into a blower. If you've never seen this on a cinema screen, I HIGHLY recommend it.
George Miller did not make films for Netflix and such. He's old skool.
I don't care how big your TV is, it is a TOTALLY different experience on a cinema screen. Occasionally one will show retro films.
In the roar of an engine he lost everything.
Close.
My life fades
the vision dims.
All that remains are memories.
I remember a time of chaos
ruined dreams (of) this wasted land.
But most of all, I remember the Road Warrior
the man we called Max.
To understand who he was, you have to go back to another time
when the world was powered by the black fuel
and the deserts sprouted great cities of pipe and steel.
Gone now swept away.
For reasons long forgotten, two mighty warrior tribes went to war
and touched off a blaze which engulfed them all.
Without fuel they were nothing. They'd built a house of straw.
The thundering machines sputtered and stopped.
Their leaders talked and talked and talked
but nothing could stem the avalanche.
Their world crumbled the cities exploded.
A whirlwind of looting
a firestorm of fear.
Men began to feed on men.
On the roads it was a white-line nightmare.
Only those mobile enough to scavenge
brutal enough to pillage would survive.
The gangs took over the highways
ready to wage war for a tank of juice.
And in this maelstrom of decay
ordinary men were battered and smashed.
Men like Max
the warrior Max.
In the roar of an engine, he lost everything
and became a shell of a man
a burnt out, desolate man
a man haunted by the demons of his past.
A man who wandered out into the wasteland.
And it was here in this blighted place
that he learned to live again.
he lives now, only in my memories...
You really have to appreciate people like this who have the passion and drive to create really cool cars like these
and there money😁

Yeah but how many ‘72 Ford Falcons are left?
As an Aussie Mad Max fan living 10kms away where the filmed most of the orig, I’ve seen a couple of Interceptors around. When I clicked on the thumbnail I totally expected an Aussie accent and thought “alright, you don’t see many but looks clean and well done”. Then, it’s “fark me a yank” big RESPECT. My envy is a high as my respect! It’s not easy to get some base parts of Aussie fords these days and he got em shipped over. Thumbs up mate. Would’ve loved a ride. (Or to get out a Holden HQ and play the role of Nightrider like we used to. Screaming “I am the Nightrider. I’m a fuel injected suicide machine. I am a rocker.......”. Damn, I’m gonna watch it again tonight. Thanks dude. Always revvs me up!
The one in the movie was 600hp
One of the things about Michigan (the state this owner and I are from) is we don’t have emissions or vehicle inspections. We get away with murder when it comes to car performance and modifications. Plenty of 800-1000hp (not a typo) vehicles cruising the public roads here
I read your response with an Aussie accent.
Worth every penny, can't put a price on living your dream. Nice car, I sunk around 30K into my 68 camaro, and it puts a huge smile on my face every time I drive it.

@@patricktaylor301 nope
Impressed that he even imported a 72 Falcon from Australia.
Actually someone else did back in the 90's when it wasn't as expensive. He was just letting it fall apart, and I bought it from him, and had the guys at Mad Max Cars in Washington build the car.
@Wiseguys96 Badguyz96 Hey! I didn’t do this. Barcroft Media did the video. I’m just the guy who owns the car...
Saw one in Oregon. Original
Awsome. One of my dreams would be to own one day a car from my favorite movie trilogy's. This is one of them. Delorion from back to the future, kitt from night rider and believe it or not a landmaster 1 from damnation ally.
@@ldwalter12 You are living the dream. I love that car so much! Became a huge fan of the Interceptor after the first two films. It really shined bright in Mad Max 2 as a truly bada$$ road warrior.

To all those involved in the tribute ,restore, and years of finding parts and info you all did a great job by all working together you all brought back a peace of history good job dudes .😎👍
Thanks! I have to give all the credit to the guys at Mad Max cars. They are the experts.
Hardest part about being born about twenty years after the first film's release and becoming a fan 16 years later is the realization that by the time you've gotten a job and saved up enough money for the Mad Max car you've always wanted, Dean's car here will probably literally be the last of the V8 Interceptors still out there.
Well, when I die it’s going to get sold...so...maybe?
And WHY they called me “Dean” throughout the piece is beyond me.
@@ldwalter12 I'm not gonna agree with that cause it'll sound like I'm waiting for you to die XD
But at the same time it's something I would've like to do from the ground up with my own Falcon that I'd buy, cause if I decided to go for the look from The Road Warrior, I'd feel pretty guilty having someone cut up a Falcon that's already set up like the one from the first film.
There's also the issue of me living in Asia.
I appreciate the hope spot, though. Thanks.
KusoTTK231 thanks for not joining the “death watch”...lol. It’s pretty hard to get Falcons in the US now. Import laws changed making it WAY more expensive. Luckily for me the guy I bought this one from brought it in in the 90’s. I totally agree the “Road Warrior” version is cool too, but I wanted the car Max seems in the garage, right when it’s new.
I like this guy. Pursued his dream but is a humble and honest guy. He's not some nerd who can't admit the flaws with it and how unrealistic it would be to have one in the same setting. Many would get offended if you said that. You know the types. Like the fans of Star Wars where you can't talk bad about their previous films.
Thanks man. I’m just telling the truth. Drive it for any length of time and you realize how impractical it would be in a post apocalyptic world. Suspension in the rear is too high, it sucks gas, and it’s front heavy as hell.
Looked awesome as a movie prop, but the reality is a bit different.
@@ldwalter12 congrats, your mney your car, do what you want. 😁 the only downside is for us in oz. the price of coupes is insane due to a shortage of them. Shells can be as high as $65k here now, and thats just the shell. 4 years ago you could get a poor runner for $10k. Those days are long gone. Good restored numbered ones are in $200k territory now
@@gfenwick1 I bought this one in 2008 off a guy who imported it in around 2000 and was just letting it rot. I paid $12,000 for it, and when I saw it I thought “I have never paid more money for a bigger pile of junk!” The guys at Mad Max Cars worked their magic, and it came out amazingly.
Those cars are hedging up on 50 years old. Scarcity is setting in. Parts are getting impossible to get.
@@ldwalter12 theres a lot more parts and panels now being made for them. There are a whole bunch being restored now to a quality that is far better than production.. i wish i’d kept my 74 😁. Cars that used to be written off due to severe rust even a few years ago are being bought back from the dead.
@@gfenwick1 really? Glad to hear that! If I ever smack something in it I can get new parts…
When making Fury Road the film had to purchase some 1973 Ford Falcon XB GT's to be Max's car. It's an incredibly difficult car to find in Australia because Americans have purchased every rust heap thats offered up for sale. The XB's they found and multiple were needed were in really poor condition. Honestly in my books the most valuable Mad Max Car is "Razor Cola" also known as "Caltrop #6" in production documents is a heavily modified Ford Falcon XB GT Coupe most notably driven by Slit. It's the most valuable because there is only 1. No duplicates were made as with many of the other Fury Road vehicles.
I can't believe there are people who watched that movie. I certainly wouldn't. Gibson must not have owned the rights, because I can't imagine him allowing it.
@@scottwoods3510if you didn't watch it, you have no room to judge.
They should’ve hired Eric Bana instead of Tom Hardy. Not only is he Australian, but he has his own Falcon XB.

@@mavericknonconformist69721 Hwehe Emil Minty...around that time he was in a few kid's shows..he actually had a nerds haircut and wore glasses.
@@Tommyblueeyes What a movie.
A fella, a quick fella, might have a weapon under there. I'd have to pin his head to the panel.
The legendary black-on-black! Chumbucket would squeal with delight!
Instead of having a fake supercharger so that it could stay stationary 99.999% of the time, he should've installed a real one that spins all the time. Then it would actually be able to rip a half-decent burnout.
Who cares about 100% movie accuracy? Mad max goes hard, so have your car in beast mode permanently.
01DOGG01 A Ford Cleveland engine can make good power for the car without a blower. All the blower does is shorten engine life and cost you with fuel economy. If you are going to be cruising around town and never using the full performance of the car like drag racing, a supercharger is nothing more than an expensive add-on that costs you money.
mrmopar5287 fuel economy? being worse than the 6 mpg he reckons he's getting? I own an XB coupe, 351C 4 speed and I get 20 odd out of mine....
01DOGG01 the reason the supercharger wasn't real was because the engine couldn't handle the boost
oh come on... what kind of stupidity is that? Are you saying 351 Clevelands cannot be supercharged??? People have done replicas of the interceptor with real blowers, and there are literally hundreds of them in drag racing using superchargers. If the engine is built for supercharging ( lower compression mainly) then pretty well any engine can be supercharged...
Im talking about back in the day when they first built it, I heard they tried supercharging it and the motor blew
I love how honest he is about the gas guzzling problem 😅🏴☠️🖤
Wow mr. Dave Walter your replica is awesome
Thanks!
+Dale Walter love your enthusiasm :)
Someday, I shall have my own Madmax Interceptor just like this one from the 1st movie, imo This one was the best Version. All New & Decked out. And I'll drive it to car shows to share it with everyone else so they too can enjoy it's Beauty and Awesomeness. 😎👍
+PhenomProductions23 in all honesty it does look awesome but I think, in reality, it would look better a little beaten up.....
Kind of like when you take the hottest girl in school to the prom, get drunk, make out like maniacs, and then take her home the next day with her dress on backwards, her panties in her purse, and her mascara running down her face lol.....
+michael C With anything you create you choose a point in time. This car is the one Goose and Barry show Max in the MFP garage, not later more weathered versions.
Keeping it like this is a pain. Maybe I should go for a later version...
It's even a right hand drive....... in the US........
Well done sir..... Well done.
that is one beautiful car ,, i still love watching mad max movies
Fantastic looking and sounding Mad Max Interceptor (Ford Falcon GT/GS Fastback.) Thanks for the video!
called them coupes or hardtops here in OZ
Bloody brilliant! The sound is awesome. I went and saw the burnt out shell of the car from Mad Max 2, in Silverton NSW, it was gone when we went back a few years later. I miss hearing V8s, not very common here in the U.K., whereas in Oz, it was a daily thing.
Stunning,as someone from OZ who has loved this from the day i saw the movie, awsome work mate, you have taken the dedicated fan out into the stratosphere, well done😊
Bravo Walter!!! You make this legend of the Movie and Car live on for the future generations! All the best form Europe! I hate boring cars and movies here. but that's life! :D
Like post-apocalyptic Steven Seagal. Coolest guy ever
Hey cool! We Built That Car!
zrxgrim We build them regularly for clients all over the world, so we get lots of practice, and the owners do seem to think they are perfect.... but we never stop improving!
MadMaxCars Farken beaut build, mate. I used to have an XA two door Falcon 351ci FMX auto box and 9 inch arse end when I was 19. It used to go like shit off a chrome shovel. I'd easily go through a set of 16 inch mickey thomsons in one burnout... good times.
Mad Max Cars built the car exactly the way that I, the guy paying for it, wanted it done. The machine is pure art.
+MadMaxCars you guys are amazing
+MadMaxCars i hope to one day buy one from you guys because I love mad max but since I'm in college i don't really have any money but hopefully my future job will allow me to get enough money to buy from you guys
“The last of the V8 Interceptas” is a line that’s stuck with me since my first view of Road Warrior.
My favorite car ever!!! And that engine sound is a thing of beauty😎
