- German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer announce a planned new treaty between their countries, with Starmer calling it a "once-in-a-generation opportunity". Speaking in Berlin, Scholz says he is "delighted" that the UK leader will "seek a fresh start in relations with the European Union."

Came here to look at all the Gammons comments, not disappointed by the stereotypical "i hate Starmer" im seeing.
Hopefully Starmer is restoring our image a bit to the other EU countries, helping to get rid of the little man syndrome we seamingly have picked up since Brexit.

@@tommymorrison6478 Sorry I think we’re tripping up on wording. What I mean is an EU country can negotiate a trade agreement of its own with a non-EU, if it has the permission to do so. I expect that is what is happening here.

@@sgist7824 There's no way this country will ever be great again. We have virtually no industry. Even call centres are being "outsourced" abroad and internet shopping warehouses are veing automated to the point where actual human employees are virtually obsolete.
A country that makes nothing, mines nothing, and grows next to nothing cannot have a healthy economy no matter how well investment bankers in the Home Counties are doing. We cannot rebuild industry either as we've not only lost the skills but it is impossible to compete with the cheap goods made by children in the third world.
