- The last of the B Series, this is a two part module with a standard dungeon crawl followed by a stealth infiltration or running battle with a huge number of mooks guarding the big bad. A few unique plot twists, but needs a bit of fleshing out. Also known for being ridiculously overpriced on the 2nd hand market. And yes I know I started calling it Queen's Bounty instead of Queen Harvest halfway through. Was reading another module at the same time and got them confused, so ignore the mix up please.
Really appreciate these overviews while I put together a homebrew campaign setting!
Used this one for my Pathfinder game though had to amp it up since characters were 5th level. Took several runs at the castle to finally get through it, but the last run through the wizard cast confusion so most of the time was the DM (me) rolling for the minions to attack themselves. Illyana did get away as half the party took off once the castle proper was defeated (don't remember exactly why now but the main spell casters were going to get the wagon or something I think) so Illyana and her retinue came up and subdued the remaining party members and then took off. I also tied this in the the Mirror of Skarda module by making Skarda the main backer for Illyana's campaign to take over the northern dominions of Karameikos. I do believe she did have some claim to Penhaligon (I believe she was the first daughter of the count of Penhaligon -or whatever his official title was) but she was illegitimate so she was not awarded the estate upon her father's death but her younger half sister was given it instead. I tied the sword to the whole Halav/Petra/Zirchev legend and in my version she sees herself as the reincarnated spirit of Petra so in her mind she is one of the rightful rulers of the Traladaran peoples and lands.
Rules Cyclopedia! Woot! Looking forward to that review.
I modified the second part by telling the PCs that there was some long-forgotten crypt in the mountains around the queen's castle and then inserted the Sla-Mori from the fourth Dragonlance module (iirc), complete with giant slug... which they ran away from.
This is best review of Queens Harvest/Bounty I have ever watched.👍
Pod is now available in drive thru rpg
I love this version of the game but I've always been happy to call it "Basic". I'll put it up against calling a game "Advanced" any day, it just sounds like you're trying TOO hard. "Oh, my D&D is SO cool. look it's got 'advanced' on it!"
The comic book image at 11:08 is nice. What comic book is this from?
Sunstone by Stjepic. It's bit naughty so don't go looking it up at work
Question: Does the module discourage the Party from just joining her so they can become nobility in her new Kingdom, or is that option left open?
That's going off the rails. Not impossible but your dm is going to be seriously winging it
@@Mr_Welch Um, does the module actually address why the current rulers are preferable? It seems like a fairly obvious decision unless she's planning to loot and burn all her future subjects, which is hardly the most efficient way to become a monarch.
...then again, maybe I've been playing DCC too long. In our first session my players committed cannibalism...
@@SerpenThrope she's mostly presented as just a glorified Bandit chief
@@Mr_Welch Yeah, I suspect my players would just point out that every monarchy started as exactly that. Then again, I'd probably run this with the assumption they'd join her as a starting point for a campaign, and they wouldn't just to spite me. HAHA!
@Mr. Welch Just out of curiosity, why do you keep calling it Queen's Bounty instead of Harvest? Also, just as a personal note, I always hated it when low level modules were written for what should be a high level party. Clearing out a dead wizards dungeon and you're only 1st through 3rd level? Absurd. Taking down a castle loaded with troops being led by a psychotic warlord bent on overtaking an entire Barony? Unthinkable.
This whole model just screams high level players. At least 10th-15th. Bump up all the encounters and this fits a high level party like Scarlett Johansen in her Black Widow suit. Plus, with all the different NPC's and the political aspect, it's just a no brainer. I'm bringing this up mostly because I'm now planning on doing the exact thing for my players and I'd love your input. Thanks again Glenn and try and keep cool, I know it's hotter than a witches tit where you are! Later!
Habit. Just got it mixed up with another module
@@Mr_Welch Thoughts about my version? Thoughts about whether you would run it as a higher level module?
@@johnbalk6091 There's a lot of basic modules that try to get players to do things like sieges or stealth runs that they aren't ready for. Horror on the Hill and Dymrak Dread also come to mind. Kicking everything up a few levels would help make them more winnable.
