First Voice: 1:18 Second Voice: 2:14 Lyrics (first verse): Hello darkness, my old friend I've come to talk with you again Because a vision softly creeping Left its seeds while I was sleeping And the vision that was planted in my brain Still remains Within the sound of silence
In harmonies, especially when there are two parts, you might want to consider using stereo so that melody is played only through one side and harmony part is played through the other. That way the listener can use the left-right balance to hear harmony or melody more strongly. Or, simply move one side of earphone set a little further from the ear. Thanks for your lessons.
@@FlaviaFlash same here, al though i will add i do actually enjoy the slight accent you can barely hear, fits very well with the song if you know a little about italien history and how speaking up have been very important through out italys history and seems to be a very important key factor in italy again.
That's so cool to hear you're studying them. Just listening to Pet Sounds, Smile, In my Room, Don't Worry Baby, Surfer Girl, etc. will show you how beautiful and intricate their harmonies all were. Brian Wilson was a genius, just like the Beatles and S&G. I swear, the 60's and 70's spawned some of the greatest and most innovative music that most of today's songs don't even hold a match to......
I cannot sing harmony ... probably because I've had no training for it. Harmony certainly does not come naturally to me. Listening to _Sound of Silence_ over the years made me notice Paul Simon's lower harmony and I listened very carefully. For many, many years now I've been trying to sing the lower harmony (as it suits my voice better) but I always get distracted by Art Garfunkel's higher voice. Thanks for sharing this with us!
Hit send too early sorry... even with an old tv they have video and audio(the two white and red cords) inputs. Plug in one and hit play to learn the melody/harmony.
I love that you've added Simon and Garfunkel - I was thinking of suggestint that to you after I enjoyed the Beatles ones so much. Perhaps you could also consider some of The Eagles songs too - marvelous harmonies "One of these nights", "Take it Easy" etc.
Thank you for adding to my education. Perfectly on task. I would encourage all that could to patronize his efforts. I will if ever comes a time that I don't have the time to devote to such awesome vids.
This was just what I needed! I was trying to work out the harmonies to this so I could sing it with my girlfriend and here you've done all the work for me! Thanks.
This is a great help with a harmony that has fascinated me for years. The only criticism that I would have is that the tempo is slightly too fast. But... thank you
Hello, Imcarrying and learnvocalharmony. You are the most talented teacher I've seen on RUclips, by far. I would be eternally grateful if you do some Alice in Chains songs who are famous for vocal harmonies, particularly the songs, Died, Junkhead, Sunshine
Well I'm a rebel cuz I added a third harmony. I've always added a third harmony when I listen to Simon and Garfunkel. I like to toss in some dissonance with augmented and/or diminished chords.
Another fascinating, enlightening, inspiring, breakdown of a beautiful harmony song. And nice visuals in your video that you've taken the time to do. Well done!
Hey Gale, you could make a lesson of the song "Another Day In Paradise" by Phil Collins. It's a great song, and the vocal harmonies are very good too. just a suggestion.
Leon y LaMar// Los Esferos Exactly ! I just listened to this and had no idea how low Paul was singing. I guess I always locked onto Art's high harmony. Very cool !
Paul Simon doesn't sing it the way it was originally recorded anymore. When they performed it at their reunion concert at Madison Square Garden in October 2009, Art Garfunkel sang it in D Minor one octave lower than the original recording, and Paul Simon harmonized one major interval below him.
Can you make some of these? The Eagles - Hotel California The Eagles - Love Will Keep Us Alive The Eagles - Take It Easy The Eagles - Take It To The Limit Extreme - More Than Words Bee Gees - How Deep Is Your Love
I love your music but especially the mix down and effects. Specifically what settings are you using for compression, reverb, and other effects including mastering? Thanks.....
This is awesome. I do karaoke duets with a friend and we will do this song now after "hearing and learning" the harmonies. Thanks so much for posting this and the other training videos.
This is great! I'll be very glad when you post videos teaching some of the Beach Boys' songs. Nobody does this. By the way, could you do Never, My Love, by The Association? Great harmonies on this one :)
wow I didn't even noticed that. Which is Paul and Garfunkel in the beginning of the vid? I never noticed there's a harmonize voice in this song but nice job!
Thank you so much, I've tried to figure out this harmony for ages, I got the higher voice allright, but since I'm an alto, it never turned out right...guess I'm Simon ! Could you also do More than words by Extreme whenever you feel like it? Thanks in advance !!!
Hey man you have a really nice voice. Do you compose your own material? you should I think :) May I ask you a question.. HAve you studied vocal technique? I am studying and trying to improve my voice and range, hoping that withing time and practice it will come... Looking forward to hear more of your videos!! Toni

Is this available in true stereo? I tried to listen to the combined vocals using just one half of my headphones to practice along with, but I could still hear too much of both. :( Thank you for this wonderful video!

Yup. Totally this.
That wouldn't work for people (like me) who can't hear out of one ear!
Well then nothing will work for you, so you don’t really don’t have a leg to stand on
@@mosesmosestv maybe you could switch the headphones around for your good ear to pick up the distinct harmonies in each scale?
Awesome singing & harmony lessons. Love them, trouble is I am starting to sing with an Italian accent.
This made me laugh

Err...this is Simon and his brother garfunkel, not the beach boys.
As much as I love the Beatles n your harmony breakdowns I’m glad to see you expanding your talents toward other artists. Love S & G.

mottledbrain or Reg there is a really simple remedy for that, especially these days.

learn the piano, it helps

Thanks for all these amazing vocal harmonies tutorials...
What a beautiful song. Thanks for this great lesson.
Wow! Simply beautiful. You have an amazing ear to separate the original vocals and a superb voice to recreate them again afterwards. Many thanks!
Thank you for adding to my education. Perfectly on task. I would encourage all that could to patronize his efforts. I will if ever comes a time that I don't have the time to devote to such awesome vids.
another super performance Galeazzo!!
Excellent and very useful! Highly recomanded! Congratulations for this work and for the Beatles too

This was just what I needed! I was trying to work out the harmonies to this so I could sing it with my girlfriend and here you've done all the work for me! Thanks.
Hi Galeazzo, gret job! You are amazing! That's exactly what I need: only 2nd and/or 3rd voice....
Please do more Simon and Garfunkel! You're vids are great. It'd also be really cool to hear some Beach Boys, especially from Pet Sounds
That was beautiful! Thank you
Beautifully explained and masterfully sung!! Bravo, and good luck with all your future endeavours. xx
Galeazzo tu sei il migliore. You are the best! 💙
This is a great help with a harmony that has fascinated me for years. The only criticism that I would have is that the tempo is slightly too fast. But... thank you
Please put more Simon and Garfunkel tutorials !
Love it. Thanks Gales! Are you going to do the whole song ,I mean, it's the same through out...
Dude you have good tone.
Thank you!
Thought it was so much more intricate than that... Could finally hear him after your video. After 35 years of listening to it! LOL Thank you!
Awesome tutorial! Please, please, please do America by Simon & Garfunkel. Been trying to figure out those harmonies for weeks! Thank you!!!
What a great job again! Please could you sing the so beautiful song "The Boxer" too ?
Wonderful. Used this to teach harmonies to my 7 year old.
His voice is beautiful
We need the whole song 🤩😍👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Great presentation!
Superb, thankyou
Simply Beautiful !
Awesome help
wow amazing, can you upload more videos of vocal technique, how to use the 4 types of voice, and breathing techniques.
really appreciate your work
Very nice!! Is it possible for you to do the entire song for each harmony? I'd really like to use this whilst training to sing both harmonies..
This is wonderful. Thanks!
Just what I needed, this minute..you're amazing..!👍

Truly Beautiful!

no1opsmgr Well I often do this as well ;)
+learnvocalharmony It's hilarious how much your profile picture resembles pictures on Paul Simon's album covers. =D
A third harmony line is always wonderful to do (and to listen to) provided one line doesn't drown out the two others...
Actually in their studio recording in 1966 had a 3rd voice but not all the time it's applied. Unlike the 2nd voice of Simon.
Thank you for your help. I did it and posted it.
Can you please please please do Scarborough Fair
Another fascinating, enlightening, inspiring, breakdown of a beautiful harmony song. And nice visuals in your video that you've taken the time to do. Well done!
Martin Finster Indeed it was a bit tricky to handle thank you Martin :)
Hey Gale, you could make a lesson of the song "Another Day In Paradise" by Phil Collins.
It's a great song, and the vocal harmonies are very good too. just a suggestion.
I am studying some of their main hits!
Super helpful.
Te pasaste Galeazzo Frudua!
Please do The Boxer also! Thanks!
Wow, Paul's part is a lot more different than I would have thought. I guess I've been singing it sort of wrong my whole life, lmao!
Leon y LaMar// Los Esferos Exactly ! I just listened to this and had no idea how low Paul was singing. I guess I always locked onto Art's high harmony. Very cool !

Can you make a tutorial for the song 'I get around' by the beach boys?
It has amazing harmonies!! Please make that one
Good question!
Can you make some of these?
The Eagles - Hotel California
The Eagles - Love Will Keep Us Alive
The Eagles - Take It Easy
The Eagles - Take It To The Limit
Extreme - More Than Words
Bee Gees - How Deep Is Your Love
I'm gonna guess you like the eagles?
Almost all of those songs are four part harmony and the ones that aren't are three part harmony.
How deep is your love would be a great start.
THANK YOU VERY MUCH FROM ITALY!
Thanks soooo much!!!
Yes :)
Can you do "For the Longest Time" by Billy Joel, please? :) You're amazing!
Dude that song is four-part harmony.
Studying them!
Wow. Great detailed teaching from a very giving and genuine music man. How can l find your luthier site? Thanks john m
Beautiful!! I can make a request? The Hollies! Thank you! :)
I love the song no matter who sings it.
I love your music but especially the mix down and effects. Specifically what settings are you using for compression, reverb, and other effects including mastering? Thanks.....
watch?v=T19BdIApB_8 for the answer :)
This is awesome. I do karaoke duets with a friend and we will do this song now after "hearing and learning" the harmonies. Thanks so much for posting this and the other training videos.
You're doing a great job Gale ! Please, do me a favour: "Dear boy" by Paul McCartney
This is great! I'll be very glad when you post videos teaching some of the Beach Boys' songs. Nobody does this. By the way, could you do Never, My Love, by The Association? Great harmonies on this one :)
Hey Galeazzo, great vid. Could you do "Echoes", by Pink Floyd, please?
Comment faire pour avoir la suite de la chanson avec les harmonies ?
wow I didn't even noticed that. Which is Paul and Garfunkel in the beginning of the vid?
I never noticed there's a harmonize voice in this song but nice job!
THANKS!!!....can you do Dylan's , Like a Rolling Stone....?
I think it's in the G4 to F5 range
Thank you so much, I've tried to figure out this harmony for ages, I got the higher voice allright, but since I'm an alto, it never turned out right...guess I'm Simon ! Could you also do More than words by Extreme whenever you feel like it? Thanks in advance !!!

May I ask you a question.. HAve you studied vocal technique? I am studying and trying to improve my voice and range, hoping that withing time and practice it will come...
Looking forward to hear more of your videos!!
Toni
I wish you could do this with every song that has harmony. Tall order, I know. Its tough to listen to a song and decipher the two different parts.
erano mesi che cercavo un tutorial simile GRAZIE
Impressive.
I want to sing that great song with my friend and your movie was very helpful :) Thank you
Very nice! I really like your videos. Can you do a video of Mrs. Robinson? ;-)
bro i don know how to thank you for this video
Wow! Awesome, thank you, very helpful :)
How about Pelican by the Maccabees?
Hello darkness, my old friend
I've come to talk with you again
Because a vision softly creeping
Left its seeds while I was sleeping
And the vision that was planted in my brain
Still remains
Within the sound of silence
In restless dreams I walked alone
Narrow streets of cobblestone
'Neath the halo of a street lamp
I turned my collar to the cold and damp
When my eyes were stabbed by the flash of a neon light
That split the night
And touched the sound of silence
fruduadotcom thank you!
it is possible a tutorial of Pink Floyd Echoes or Yes Hold on?
thanks for the video. very helpful and precise
why is it so much easier to hear the high part of the harmony than the low (the first part that you broke down)
Great video!
Are they singing in unison, one octave apart the whole song?
No harmonies?
Liam James no
Is this available in true stereo? I tried to listen to the combined vocals using just one half of my headphones to practice along with, but I could still hear too much of both. :( Thank you for this wonderful video!
