Rising Damp is more than just a sitcom, to anyone around 40 and over it is an institution ingrained in the collective psyche of the UK. The same can be said of Porridge and Only Fools And Horses.
and fawlty towers of course.
And captain Pugwash
And bagpuss
@@standup471Indeed yes, I can't believe I forgot that.
I would have Rising Damp at number 1, followed closely by Only Fools and Horses then Porridge.. They just don't make quality like those anymore
Did I really hear you refer to Rigsby's house of bedsits as an apartment complex. That is just too precious. LOL
That's Rigsby all over
I can't really add to what's been said. Rigsby is a miserable grasping coward, and Leonard Rossiter played him with genius. The whole series is very funny indeed.
Remembering Don Warrington as Philip in Rising Damp and seeing him today as the Commissioner in Death In Paradise is a good way of feeling ancient.
Captally Have you watched Love Thy Neighbour ? Bill is Lovely old Patrick from Eastenders ,
"In my day when you scored a goal, you got a brisk handshake" Always love that line lulz!!!
Rigsby is the typical miserly Landlord, in close contact with his tenants. Philip is an English, Public School educated intellectual, formerly from African descent. (Spot the African artefacts around the Room). Miss Jones is the prim and proper young lady, again highly educated and with impeccable manners, for whom Rigsby believes she has a ‘soft spot’. In the meantime, Alan (the ‘puney one’ with long hair) is trying to gain the attention of Miss Jones, amply demonstrated in this episode/clip where Rigsby and Alan vie with one another over their fitness!
Other episodes are a MUST, and I hope you enjoy them. Thanks for uploading; I hope you do more of Rising Damp in the future. Best Wishes, Bob
The episode that really crack's me up is Rigsby & the smoking African love wood that Philip provided.
Philip is supposed to be African royalty, but in one of the very last episodes he admits he puts the posh accent on and is in fact from a normal family in the UK 😂
youre a weirdo
I wouldn't call Miss Jones "young". She represented the thirty-plus woman staring down spinsterhood. Back then, an unmarried woman past thirty often was often thought of as being "on the shelf".
@@jemmajames6719 LOL
EVERY African I worked with in London was a "Prince" or " Chief" back in Africa, I used to call them "Chiefy as a fiesty 17 year old in 1971.
This carried on until one day this Nigerian Guy said he was the so of The Ambassador for Nigeria at which point I told him to stop the nonsense..........but he really WAS....:)..........Fast forward to his sudden disappearance and in a Fleet Street ,London pub one night a crowd of 7.8 Men were talking about him, fondly, until one said that he left owing him £200 then another piped up and eventually it tanspired he ram away with money from all of them.He was found 2 years later on a Tube where he, conveniently, "found religion"..lol
I’m from New Zealand and I remember watching this with my dad 20yrs ago ... Most favourite episode “Things that go bump in the night” 😂😂😂 and this one 😂😂😂
and the xmas one .. I have a bath every friday whether I need it or not
FYI Richard Beckinsale who died before his time is the father of Kate & Samantha Beckinsale
Yes he was only 31 when he died of a Heart defect.
Is Kate much younger than Samantha Beckinsale as Samantha did a bit on tv then seemed to disappear.
I am surprised that the American couple can understand Rugby’s super fast delivery 😂😂
Or the references tbh
My mum loved this , then so did I , now my daughter who’s 14 roars with laughter , when she’s laughing like a looney in her room she’s
Usually got this playing on her DVD player 😄
good to know---keep it rolling, if the pc lunatics allow.
I was quite young when Rising Damp was first aired, but like yourselves thoroughly enjoyed this clip. I think it has stood the test of time because it was character based and extremely well written, with its underlying themes of unrequited love and jealousy still relevant today. Rigsby was the archetypal dodgy landlord, as you can see from the décor and general condition of the house. The cast was supreme, as previous comments have alluded to. Richard Beckinsale had a huge future ahead of him until his tragic death from a heart attack at the age of 31 in 1979. He did leave us his legacy of Rising Damp and Porridge, both classics.
R.I.P.
Leonard Rossiter (1926-1984)
Richard Beckinsale (1947-1979)
Both gone too soon.
Leonard frickin' Rossiter! Love that actor and this show! Check out "The Fall and Rise of Reginald Perrin" for more Rossitery goodness.
Richard Beckinsale was my favourite actor. He was just starting to move into straight roles and was very good. I was so upset when he died so young.
Glad you enjoyed it. Rising damp still gives me a smile.
oh dear--take it easy now.
I love rigsby. Rising damp is one of my no.1 favourite British comedy. Thank you 👍👌😊
The legend that is Leonard Rossiter.
And KIng Arthur.
My favourite comedy. It's a classic. It never fails to make me laugh. Americans don't know what they're missing!
Try Steptoe & Son. Interesting accents, great comedy, and legendary in the UK. The episode where they are playing Scrabble and the old man can only come up with rude words, or the one where the old man fakes his illness with his son having to take on his work in the rag and bone business are classics.
In the series, Philip claims to be the son of an African chief, but is in fact from Croydon. In real life I think he originated from the North East of England. His accent is really 'posh' English.
Richard Beckinsale died way too young. The belief was that he would have progressed with his acting career and made it big time. His daughter has followed in his footsteps and is a very good actress. Leonard Rossiter is a diamond - fantastic actor.
Glad you enjoyed it.
Check out Rossiter in the Fall and Rise of Reginald Perrin. Very British comedy, mind.
He did make it to the big time. He was in Porridge, which was about as good as it gets. :)
@@jeffhubbard100 I meant 'Big Time' as in Hollywood. Porridge was good, though ☺
@@SimesyBrakes I'm glad he was not subjected to the Hollywood machine.
I'm 37 and I loved watching this in the 80's.
The best thing about Rising Damp is its family friendly.
Richard Beckinsale's (Rigsby) daughter is the actress Kate Beckinsale, who would be known to American viewers as the protagonist of the Underworld movies etc. Leonard Rossiter was a comic genius, of course, while Frances de la Tour - now 76! - remains one of our finest classical actresses.
Everyone has missed an important point. Class! Rigsby felt inferior to Philip, who out classed him on every level. Background, education, accent, intelligence, looks, prospects and, even worse, Miss Jones likes him, not to mention the very obvious fact.....! Beckinsale is more Rigsby's class and is young, fit, pleasant and good looking but Rigsby feels superior to him because of his long hair. Miss Jones is also from a higher class background and this is noticeable in her attitude to Rigsby. Most of the humour is based on this dynamic, which is borne out by the episode where they attend an upmarket black tie dance. Rigsby wants a dance with Miss Jones and shouts out very loudly, and uncouthly to the band, "WHADDABOUT A WALTZ, THEN!!"
Americans often find this element goes over their heads, but is very obvious to Brits.
Brilliantly concise description. I do think it is also important for viewers to know that, despite his snipes motivated by feelings of inferiority, Rigsby does grow to consider Philip a friend. There is a brilliant example of this in the film, when Rigsby finds out that Philip is not really the son of a chief, but is in fact from Croydon. Rigsby's response is heartfelt and subtle and it is a shame it was not in the series, because the film was poor in every other respect.
Yes, Philip presented himself as an African prince!
@@elvisleeboy the day you posted this the film was on after midnight on TV! Again, class was the theme. Miss Jones falls for the posh con man and Rigsby saves the day. Class prejudice was the mainstay of the humour. If you don't understand the dynamic it might be hard to appreciate why it is funny. Rigsby's piece with Philip near the end, where they have saved Miss Jones from being robbed is a warm statement from Rigsby, who tells him that although he is from Croydon, he could still unknowingly be the son of an African Prince. Friendship.
Yes, good episode that one, my favourite line from that episode is when Miss Jones says "I've taken an inventory of myself and was shocked" and Rigsby replies "nothing missing is there Miss Jones?!"
Rising Damp was one of my favourite shows when I lived in England !!!!!
Richard Beckinsale died when he was 29. His daughter is Kate Beckinsale. It was quite a good show. Miss Jones fancied Philip, the black chap but he wasn't interested
Don Warrington. And the Kate Beckinsale
His eldest daughter is Samantha Beckingsale. Why does everyone forget that?
@@Wickerrman I would recognise Samantha quicker than I would recognise Kate. Samantha it's more like her dad. To me Kate Beckinsale be more like 'you know, that one that was in that thing'
I can't think of a single movie I've seen her in.
@@Hi-kq1vi No, but her sister Kate is just another Hollywood megastar. I wouldn't recognise if she was walking down my street.
He was 32 in 1979
The guy with the weights was Hollywood Underworld/Van Helsing/Pearl Harbor actress Kate Beckinsales Father Richard.
Richard Arthur Beckinsale was an English actor, who played Lennie Godber in the BBC sitcom Porridge and Alan Moore in the British ITV sitcom Rising Damp. He is the father of actresses Samantha Beckinsale and Kate Beckinsale.
He died at only 31 years of age....
Please react to this great comedy Just Good Friends guarantee you will love it

And we all remember the "love wood" episode.
My favourite too, I think, it's so hard to decide, SO many great moments
So glad u watched it and enjoyed it as it's one of the best UK TV shows of all time
If you can find the Grey Lady episode you'll love that. Rigsby thinks the house is haunted. 😁
Haha yes ! Every episode is perfectly timed and soooo 😂 funny lol
Although he looks puny in this Rigsby (Leonard Rossiter) was in fact an ace squash player
BUT DIED OF A HEART ATTACK, SHORTLY AFTER A GAME.
He was so enthusiastic about his squash, that he invited his milkman on holiday with him, so that he's have a squash opponent to play with.
@@MrDaiseymay Leonard Rossiter died of a hear attack at 57, but even more tragically, Richard Beckinsale was just 31 when he, too, died of a one too.
Richard Beckinsale (in the red tracksuit) who died in 1979 aged 31 was the father of Kate Beckinsale who has starred in several Hollywood films.
Richard lived in a house in Carlton, Nottingham, not but four doors away from where I was in lodgings as an apprentice. Died of a heart attack in his sleep. Gone far too young.
The Landlord:Leonard Rossiter alias " Rigsby" was one of our most brilliant Actors and an absolute perfectionist that could make him difficult to work...
I love Rising Damp. It makes me laugh everytime.
Ah the late great Leonard Rossiter, you should do a reaction to the famous Cinzano adverts he done
I think that they were planning to make a sitcom with Leonard Rossiter and Joan Collins because of the success of the adverts. But unfortunately he died prematurely, before it could happen. It would of been good.
Rising Damp was hugely popular in the seventies in particular, Leonard Rossiter was brilliant as Rupert Rigsby , all the cast were excellent comic actors, sadly Richard Beckinsale died really young, his daughter is an actress, Don Warrington is still acting today and Frances de la Tour as well I think. Rossiter also played a character called Reggie Perrin which was also an excellent comedy, definitely showing my age now, check out Beckinsale in Porridge with Ronnie Barker, very seventies. As for Rising Damp Rigsby fancied Miss Jones but she fancied Phillip, this was the basis for much of the comedy in the series, not very PC but very amusing in my opinion, I think Rigsby basically believed God was an Englishman, different times, people didn't seem to be as easily offended when I was growing up as we were brutal in our ribbing of each other, somehow we survived without a safe space, go figure.
Loved Rising Damp Neil. The series finished in the year I was born and I remember watching the repeats in the 80s. Classic series. Why have Itv stopped showing comedies. The channel is pretty boring nowadays.
LIKE all SUCCESFUL COMDIES OF THIS ERA, THEY WERE FANTASTICALLY SUCCESSFUL BECAUSE THEY WERE FREE--OF IDIOTIC MEDDLING BY THE MISSNAMED ANTI LIBERAL LEFT.
Absolutely genius show. Glad you enjoyed it.
Our lovely Richard Beckinsale, much missed still. His daughter, the actress Kate Beckinsale.
You might want to check out Desmonds. It is a Channel 4 comedy based in a barber shop. It has the brilliant acting of the late Norman Beaton..
Rigsby was the landlord the others rented rooms from him
Hi there, Lillian & Philipe (hope I have spelt your names right). I have been following you on and off for well over a year now and I do find you good fun.
I am glad you chose Rising Damp, one of the most superb comedies ever to be put out in England. Rigsby (Leonard Rossiter) is excellent - he is the Landlord and all the others rent rooms in his house.
I do recommend that you watch this comedy series but especially the first series. I was young when this was shown, when English society had a sense of humour. John
I'm only in my 30s so Rising Damp is alot before my time but my Dad introduced me to it. It's a great character comedy with the old and deluded landlord Rigsby rubbing up against the young medical students who rent a room in his digs. It's a kind of love/hate relationship between them all and the comedy is in the clashes between the generations and different cultures. Philip is supposedly an African Prince with several wives back home and Rigsby views him with both suspicion and admiration. He views the long haired Alan as an unmanly layabout due to his more modern outlook which clashes with Rigsby's old fashioned views. It won't get shown on TV anymore as its certainly very non-PC by moderns standards which just makes it all the more hilarious. I'd strongly recommend getting the DVD boxset.
Made in the early seventies. Rigsby owned the house and rented out some rooms. The two guys were supposed to be medical students. Miss Jones was in love with Philip. Rigsby with Miss Jone. In real life, Frances de la Tour (Miss Jones) couldn`t stand Leonard Rossiter (Rigsby).
You missed the best part of the episode, where Rigsby challenges Phillip to a boxing match
great video, you need to watch more rising damp to appreciate the comedy
I'd forgotten just how funny Rising Damp was, it still holds up well fifty years later. Find the Jimmy James, Eli Woods, shoe box sketch with Roy Castle. If that doesn't make you laugh, you're dead. It's old but don't let that put you off.
Good old Roy Castle. I saw his son playing sax at Ronnie Scotts a couple of years back - he has his father's huge musical talent, if not the fame to go with it. Seeing him made me think of what a great guy his dad was.
These two have a special knack of missing the bleeding point of just about everything.
They can't help it. This show's humour depends on the British class system which they will not really understand. Rigsby is very working class. His tenants are all superior to him, class-wise.
@@kendee4421 Philip was the son of an African Tribal Chief. To annoy his room-mate, he would often casually mention his dozen or so wives.
Not sure if you've reacted to 'Steptoe and Son' but Leonard Rossiter (Rigsby) was in one of the best-The Desperate Hours. In it, he and an elderly lag had escaped prison to hole-uo with the scrap-dealing duo. 'Steptoe and Son' was remade as 'Sanford and Son' in the US.
Think there were 4 series of Rising Damp.To fully appreciate it view them all.The humour will stay with you for the rest of your lives. It first aired in the mid 1970s and is a classic British comedy.Timeless humour. Some of the verbal wit one liners will unfortunately go amiss to Americans but it is razor sharp, fresh classic comedy superbly written.
'Bedsit land', usually refferes to rundown cheap tenement accommodation, in old Victorian /Edwardian city areas. Poor facilities and lacking in very basic amenities. Hence the title, 'Rising Damp'.meaning foundations that aren't insulated from the ground. Rigsby is a typical miserly landlord, who interferes with his tenents private life, by bursting in on them.
Leonard Rossiter was in Stanley Kubrick's 2001 a space odyssey.
He originally auditioned for the role of HAL
@@morrison999uk WOW, I would love to see/hear that!
He was also in Stanley Kubrick's Barry Lyndon as Captain Quin.
@@morrison999uk I'm trying hard, to imagine that
The guy lifting the weights ( red track suit) is Kate beckinsale’s dad , Richard beckinsale .... just a little fun fact . 😀
Ironically, Leonard Rossiter was a very fit man. He was a keen and very competent sportsman playing football, cricket, tennis and squash in later life. However, equally ironically he died aged just 57 of heart disease. In any event, a truly brilliant actor.
Unfortunately Leonard Rossiter was not the only one from that cast to die relatively you. Richard Beckinsale, father of Kate Beckinsale died age just 31, of a massive heart attack. It appears he had a congenital heart defect which had gone undetected, even though he'd recently passed a medical check up.
Tommy Lawton was an Everton player who won the League with Everton in last season before World War 2. Leonard Rossiter was an Everton fan.
One would have to be quite long in the tooth to know why Rigsby's cat is named ' Vienna '. When he puts her out at night he always says to her " Goodnight Vienna " - which was a popular operetta in the 1930s. The title song is here on YT.
Philip has an upper crust public school accent.
And from Croydon.
YES--I GUESS ALL WE PHILIPS DO.
This series was based on a west end play called The Banana Box about an African man who conned his way into a London hotel and convinced them he was the prince of an African country.
When Len Rossiter was asked if it was difficult to portray Rigsby he said :not at all,he said he grew up with Rigsby, hundreds of Rigsbys in the factories and mens clubs where he lived.
The guy in the pink tracksuit was Richard Beckinsale father of actress Kate Beckinsale. He died aged 32
Rising Damp is one of my favourite British comedies.
Leonard Rossiter was perfect to play Rigsby. His manic energy and quick wit suited this role to the ground. RIP Leonard Rossiter 🌈🙏🏻
Don Warrington played Phillip and he was the coloured guy in the show to your question of who’s who. Miss Jones was played by Frances De La Tour
Lastly - the absolutely gorgeous Richard Beckinsale 😍😍 played Alan in the maroon tracksuit. He was a real hottie 🔥🔥 in the 70’s and pin up guy. If you know or have watched the Underworld movies starring Kate Beckinsale - Richard was her dad. We lost him way too early at age 31 RIP 🌈🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻😢😢 a waste of a gorgeous man who was lovely inside and out 👏🏻👍🏻
My dogs are called Risgby and Vienna
Rigsby is the seedy landlord of a house of low-rent bedsits. I lived in such a place for a year when I was a student in the late-1970s. The black character is British - he's not "African-American". He's got a "posh" accent, whereas the other characters speak with "working class" accents, though Miss Jones has airs and graces because she has middle-class pretensions. The black guy is the poshest here.
Rising Damp started as a Play then it was adopted as a Television Series. The Black Guy was going to college and hid (or claimed) he was actually African Royalty from the Landlord. Usually the Landlord was much more abrasive to the tenants. The Woman has a crush on the Landlord or any man for that matter. Leonard Rossiter also played a brilliant role in The Fall and Rise of Reginald Perrin. It is about the ultimate Mid Life Crisis. When he tries to succeed he fails. When he tries to fail he succeeds.
Definitely worth watching one of my favourite programmes blast from the past made me smile went off at wrong time though when miss Jones come in was funny getting that top off jar funny thanks
some of the best british acting talent ever. RIP richard and Leonard both taking far to early. Don warrington and Frances de la tour still going strong
its what's called in this country- flats the people boarding are tenants/lodgers, but YOU would say apartments.
A tragedy for Richard Beckinsale to die of a heart attack at the age of just 31. Porridge was another fantastic series. Sitcoms cannot match the older stuff nowadays.
Kate's done him proud tbh
Philip is the black one and it is a English accent
Frances De La Tour was later in the Allan Bennet play/film 'The History Boys'
Alan and Philip are both students (though, realistically, they were far too old) and along with Miss Jones are occupying bed-sits in Rigsby's dilapidated house. Alan was played by Richard Beckinsale, who had first appeared in Jack Rosenthal's sit-com 'The Lovers'. He had perfect comic timing, and a fresh faced complexion which he said came from being a quarter Burmese. He died tragically young (aged 31) followed five years later by Leonard Rossiter (aged 57). He has a very famous daughter, Kate Beckinsale, who seems to have inherited his looks. Don Warrington is still soldiering on. He has been in all eight series of 'Death in Paradise' playing the island's chief commissioner of police.
That actor Richard Beckinsale is no longer with us (he died quite young [31]), but his daughter is the famous actress - Kate Beckinsale.
they were students and Rigsby was the landlord. Philip is a planning student who claims to be the son of an African Chief, Alan is a medical student and the rent rooms from Rigsby... Loved this program growing up and love it more now as I can understand the nuances and undercurrents to the humour. they dont make telly like this anymore.
Sadly, Richard Beckinsale (Alan), the actor, died of a heart attack, as did Leonard Rossiter, (Rigsby), if I recall correctly.
As for Philip's accent, it is RP (Received Pronunciatian) and not regional.
Please please please watch the episode, things that go bump in the night. The best one in the whole series 👍
The black guy is now in a great Thursday night drama called Death in Paradise. Check it out.
In the opening scene they're talking about David Attenborough, a naturalist who made a lifelong career making nature documentaries for the BBC all over the world.
He was the brother of film director/actor Richard Attenborough (Ghandi, Chaplin, Shadowlands, Oh What a Lovely War, and as actor The Great Escape, Jurassic Park, Miracle on 34th Street).
If you can find it, look for the show Leonard rossitter did playing the chairman of the Burt Reynolds fan club, absolutely hilarious
Rigsby is the owner, the others are tenants. Philip is a black guy with an RP accent. Don Warrington who played Philip is now in Death in Paradise as the Police Commissioner.
Leonard rossiter one of the best comedians a genius and his timing was legendary. Not sure how it would translate into american humour today.
Richard Beckinsale was also in Porridge alongside Ronnie Barker. Worth a look.
Many comments here about Richard's very sad and untimely death.
He had just completed the Porridge film. May also have been working on stage but he was also busy on set in the BBC's
comedy called Bloomers. Check his last ever appearance in Episode 5 on Y/T.
He looks rather pale and ill with dark eyes. Apparently on set, it was noticed that he was getting greyer and greyer in the face.
He was complaining of shooting pains in his arm but remarkably he was mentioning this to all and sundry for several days.
An earlier visit turned up a problem with too high cholesterol.
He was so much in demand, he could not turn down work. A phenomenal workload caused him too much strain and was ultimately his undoing. Very, very sad; a great and outstanding actor at the top of his profession. R.I.P Richard.
It was a seedy, rundown boarding house. Cheap rooms with basic facilities. Beckinsale was only 32 when he died
Kate Beckinsdale’s father. Such a shame he died so very young. He was on his way to being a major star. Leonard Rossitor also passed too soon.
Lovely to see Richard Beckinsale in this... his daughter Kate is in lots of movies these days...
The set up is Rigsby is the landlord of a tatty lodging house, renting out three bedsits, one to Miss Jones, with whom he is in love. One to two students; Alan who is a bit of a loser and very insecure, he looks up to Philip, the good looking confident African son of a chief. Miss Jones is in love with Philip, who of course has no interest in her. Rigsby is confused by Philip, he is old fashioned enough to think that he is better than a black man, yet he finds himself jealous of him, more than that though liking and respecting him. The third room had various tenants to facilitate guest stars in some episodes.
Like most great British Comedies, and it is one of the best with an astonishingly great cast. (Tragically Richard Beckinsale died a few years after this, and Leonard Rossiter followed in the mid eighties.), it is about losers. But ones that we can empathise with. Philip seems like he is the exception, but in the end it turns out he is a fantasist.
I loved this. I used to watch this when I was 12.
I’ve never seen RisingDamp before. Very funny.. those English could talk the leg off the kitchen table. Cheers, Jim, Tasmania
Rigsby was a slum landlord , He was in love with Miss Jones , but she was in love with Philip the African guy , He claimed he was a Prince of an Important African tribe ( He wasn’t ) Rigsby frequently tripped over his cat Vienna on the stairs , The other guy doing the weights played by Richard Beckinsale was Kate Beckinsale’s Father ,( She is in the Underworld movies ) He died in his early 30’s from a heart attack
The tenants are in bedsits. Something you don't see much now. But it was cheap for students and the low paid. I lived in a bedsit for a while when I left home and it wasn't much different except for our landlady.
I remember, when I was in a bedsit, I was watching TV with a friend in the room below, we had the TV on and the main light. When the landlady suddenly burst in turned the light off muttering something about her electricity bill and promptly left. The funny part of it was electricity was on a pay meter. Sadly the fun of living and surviving in bedsits is a long gone pastime, at least here in London.
One on my favourite comedy's the black guy was son of a chief 😂🤣😂🤣
allegedly
David Attenborough on the TV. Some things never change.
Leonard Rossiter was a great English comedic actor.
leonard rossiter was a brilliant actor he was in 2001 a space odyssey and barry Lyndon directed by Stanley Kubrick, Sam beckinsale an actress too, who was Richard beckinsales daughter grew up around me in Nottingham I worked with someone who was best friends with her at school she never knew he was her dad I don’t know if she ever met him because he died of a heart attack, her sister Kate Beckinsale knew him she was in the film pearl harbour
Philip was the black guy, he spoke with an upper class accent, Rigsby was always trying to date francis but she always rebuffed him, it was really funny the things he got up to, really popular series at the time. Sadly richard beckinsale died in from a rare heart problem in his sleep in 1979 he was only 32 at the time. Francis is still alive she is 74. Leonard rossiter (rigsby) died waiting to go on stage 1984 heart attack again. he was only 57. ( Philip ) Don warrington black guy is still alive he is 68. May i suggest a series called porridge with ronnie barker and richard beckinsale, this is one of my favourites especially the film version i think you will like it.
Sorry to correct you, but for the record, Richard Beckinsale, died in his sleep, at home. Eventually ,it was discovered that he had a fairly rare Heart problem, and had told his wife that evening, he wasn't feeling very well, and went to bed. As you correctly said, It was Leonard Rossiter, who died back stage, from a massive heart attack, in 1984
@@MrDaiseymay O' really so why did i read he had a heart attack, seen it from quite a few sources maybe i have got them mixed up
Quite a few years ago I had the misfortune of picking up 'Miss Jones' (Frances de la Tour) as a cab fare, She never stopped moaning about how fast my taxi meter was going up as she smoked one cigarette after another, I dread to think how she found the prices where she went which was Champneys Health resort near Tring !, A very exclusive place to stay at that time.
I don't think you've done enough of these. Leonard rositter was brilliant. The black guy is still around most notably in the series Death in Paradise. The other series worth looking at is called The fall and rise of Reginald Perrin. This humour is perhaps a little more satirical and you might want to watch a few episodes first to get used to it before reacting. But I think you will enjoy it! Though perhaps not straight away.
IT IS WITH GREAT IRONY, THAT YOU SHOULD HAVE CHOSEN THIS EPISODE. BOTH RICHARD BECKENSALE (AGED 32) AND LEONARD ROSSITER AGED (57) DIED OF HEART ATTACKS (1979 & (1984 ) REPECTIVELY. RICHARD DIED IN HIS SLEEP. LEN IN HIS THEATRE DRESSING ROOM. HE WAS KNOWN TO BE A FITNESS FANATIC, AND A PRO LEVEL SQUASH PLAYER.
