you're right, I just started taking care of my beard and I just realized how f#cked up the neckline was, now I just need to wait until it grows some more so I can fix it
Great video! I've always used the crease that forms when I look down as a guide for where to trim my neckline. I trim a straight line down from the back of my sideburns then slightly round the sharp corner that forms. It's a fool proof way to trim a beard neckline because of natural guides you can use!
Ive had a long beard for a while but ive never really dont any grooming to keep it looking nice. I found a video a while ago on trimming it. But they never really went over the neckline in a clear way. Not sure why it too me so long to just find a video about this specifically because its the area ive always not really known how to trim properly. Thanks for the help.
Great video! I recently trimmed in a rush and screwed my neckline up bad. It is not to the point of shave and restart but it is darn close to a chin strap. My advice is to take your time trimming.
@Kevin B It's ALWAYS better to take off too little than too much! The same principle applies whether it's trimming your beard, getting a haircut, mowing your grass, what have you.
Thanks so much , this makes so much sense why my beard was big in the front and weird looking at the sides. It was all in the neck line , l will try my best to explain this to my barber.
Tell you what I would love to see... It's a big ask and it would be very hard to do, but, I would love to see you completely shave it and start from scratch, keeping a video diary of your progress back to the length the beard is now... It would really be informative to see what you do on the journey, what products you use along the way and how you shape it etc etc...
How do you comb/brush your beard? I have been combing and brushing in a downward motion through my whole beard down to my adams apple. Is that what you do, or do you brush down to your chin then from your Adams apple up to your chin?
A real beard shouldnt be shaved, unless you are just going for a mustache. Just grow it out as naturally as possible. Look at all the beards during the Victorian period (1813-1914), especially during the civil war. It's just my personal preference
Bro I remember when I was in high school I never not had facial hair even now. But I was trimming my beard the clipper I was using fell off so was just the 0 lol I didn't see it until I shaved half my beard off I had to rock the 5oclock shadow and a goatee was so mad great video
Hey bro! Yes, hair shedding is completely normal! Humans on average lose 80-100 head hairs per day, the beard is no different (although that number will be a bit less).
You never cut your neckline in a straight line, you want to make sure you go the contour of your throat. You typically want to go a finger width above the adam's apple.
Spencer has been growing his beard since 2015. He shaved it off when we introduced our MT-1 trimmer and since grew it back with the help of our Beard Boost.
My barber called it box beard but how about different shapes of beard ? I tried to recreate other shape of bear when you make kind of a V neck line and it seems really hard
The beard itch is a struggle for sure. As our beards grow they absorb all of our natural oils away from the skin causing the skin to become dry and itch. I would check out our products to help with that. www.livebearded.com/sample. We are always here to support you however we can.
It is easy to go too far with this and end up scooping out a big hollow space under your beard, or putting a dent in the side beard. Happened to me a couple of times! Shaping the undercarriage is difficult without an extra pair of eyes to see it from all angles.
We can actually get consultations from you guys? That's awesome. I might have to take some good pictures on the weekend and see if I can't send an email over. Maybe you can help me with this mess. lol. 31 and a first time beard grower. 7 months in so far. Last shave was Christmas eve.
The longer you plan on growing your beard, the lower you should make your neckline even if its awkward around month 1-2. If you plan on rocking a short beard/stubble, you can shave pretty close to jaw line. If you plan on a beard like this guys, you will want to trim it lower down close to adams apple. In general, you can only go too high. too low will always work out with time and growth, unless you have weak cheeks/chin, then youll just have a neck beard.
We typically recommend a finger width above your adams apple. This allows your beard to look thick and full but totally agree that if you're going for a longer beard you don't have to worry about the neckline.
I've tried doing that, and I found that I felt unkempt, without a neckline. But then, I only have a two month beard, which is my preferred look. Don't like the stubble beard, nor do I like short beards, if you don't consider a 1 inch beard a "short beard."
We know how daunting trimming your beard is. We try and help make it easier. We have an entire blog to help. Check it out, livebearded.com/blogs/do-better
Dude, you do realize that your beard and 'stache are near perfect, don't you? The color contrast is awesome. Excellent neck/jaw trim line, with plenty of bulk at the bottom.
Man, I’m so glad I got my testosterone levels checked. I could never grow a beard before, now I have one like this man. It’s such an amazing feeling to wear a full beard.
Everyone is different when growing out a beard. For myself my neckline grows in a lot quicker than my cheeks. The best advise is time and patience. Keeping that beard clean does help promote beard growth. We are always here to support you however we can!
Hey I’ve been growing my beard for 2 years now! I’ve trimmed it a lot and often. I tried growing it out longer during Lockdown but I couldn’t keep it at that length when I went back to school (lockdown ruined year 12 for me btw) but I recently got a welding apprenticeship and because of that I’m unable to keep a big beard, can you do a similar few guides for shorter more close to the face beards? I really like having a beard and don’t wanna shave it without trying new shorter styles first.
Not trying to be funny but serious question: what if you’re a fat guy? I’m fat with a blubber down there. Still feel for the Adam’s apple and trim below of? I already know I’ve made the fat man mistake of trimming at the jaw line. Glad I stopped that.
As someone who just left service after 21 years... thanks. I needed a tutorial on the basics.
Thank you for your service and we are happy to help!
Great topic! The neckline is probably the most common mistake for new beardsmen
I love the notion of being a beardsman! Great turn of phrase!

Glad we could help brother!! Thanks for watching!
Yup had barbers do my neck line at the beginning and they kept cutting it short so I had to grow out mines and now doit myself
Good call, right on, brother! Sometimes doing it yourself is the best option.

I did it, when I started growing Beard. So, unfortunately, I had to trim it off. But, now I know the proper way. So, thank you Sir.

you just motivated me to finally do my mustache like that.. THANKS.. i need to get back in shape..
Hey brother your beard always looks awesome but I'm definitely digging the bigger beard on u! Looks great man!!
ah i been shaving my whole neck
😂😂😂
Im hoping my beard grows out like yours.im 2 to 3 months into growing it out.
Just have to let it grow! Some of us have been growing our beards for years. I would see how long you an go without trimming it!
Your beard has nice curl and structure... mine grows straight and I'm not sure how to deal with it
Thanks for the advice!
You're very welcome brother, we're always here to support you!
I trim mine about 2 fingers width above my Adams apple
This is what we typically suggest, one or two finger widths. As your beard grows of course you stop seeing your neck line lol
I struggle with how to shape the vertical portion of the bottom of the beard!! I always cut in too far I think, and then it looks thinned out
When it comes to trimming your beard, we recommend taking it slow as you can always cut more. You can't cut less.
after shaving my skin is much more darker and it doesn’t look like i shaved at all.
can i do something to lighten up my skin after shaving?
Do you shave with a razor too bro? It could help eliminate hair down to the skin if that's what you're worried about.
Hi man every morning i brush my Beard hair falls out it's normal or not 😮😢

Do you do a straight line or do you start above the Adams apple and make your way to the corner of your jaw below your ear?
You never cut your neckline in a straight line, you want to make sure you go the contour of your throat. You typically want to go a finger width above the adam's apple.

When trimming the neckline you want to make sure to go along the same curve as your neck. So it looks more natural
This is great! Very excited to get my neckline trimmed right
Whats the name of the site to show u a beginner beard would love the help
I always shave my neck because it gets terribly itchy when I don't... does this stop once the hair grow longer?

You have a super cool beard man
Thanks! I've been going a little higher than my Adam's apple, so I'm going to let it grow in a little more. Thanks for the advice!
We recommend about a fingers length above the Adam's apple but as your beard grows and passes your neck than we suggest letting it go. 🧔♂️ 😎
It is easy to go too far with this and end up scooping out a big hollow space under your beard, or putting a dent in the side beard. Happened to me a couple of times! Shaping the undercarriage is difficult without an extra pair of eyes to see it from all angles.
We recommend taking your time and treat it like a hedge. Go slowly, you can always cut more but you can't cut less.
Thanks
Thank you...
How do you do this with mutton chops though?
Clear and concise.

I’m lucky enough where my beard growth on my neck ends right above my Adam’s Apple so I don’t have to trim underneath at all with a full beard
mine stops right above my Adam's apple but continues sideways around it haha

How to wash your beard
I am guilty of the mistake of having a cheek beard due to having too high of a line. I just reset my beard using a proper, low line
Perfect! It definitely helps make your beard a lot fuller. Glad we could help.
Does the beardboost help with people that can't grow beards?
