The Arena X- Glide tech suit he wore in 2009 increased his buoyancy due to it made of 100% polyurethane. Beidermann was a pretty big and bulky guy when he set that record. The transition from the body suits to jammers hurt big guys like him because now he has to work harder to keep that weight afloat, where the bodysuit+weight combo used to make people like him incredible. Jason Bui He was a god in 2009 still holding the world record in the 200m free with a full body suit but now in 2012 he had to wear a normal sized suit and didn’t even medal
@@jasonbui6429 The issue isn't so much "Full body Suits", as those had been in use since the 1980's and really added a fairly marginal advantage to the swimmer; for example Ian Thorpe won multiple gold medals in the early 2000s wearing a full body suit, and no-one typically questions those victories. HOWEVER, critically in around 2008, companies began producing full body suits and "legskin" (look like tight leggings, phelps wore'em a-lot) suits that were made of 50% POLYURETHANE, a compound that essentially floated on top water, leaving less water resistance for a swimmer to deal with. At the 2008 olympics, these suits were as previously mentioned, 50% polyurethane; which while adding a 1-1.25% decrease in time, wasn't that much faster than non-polyurethane suits (Also why phelps's many world record setting performances in 2008 are still held as the fastest in the world.) Yet, in 2009 a suit that was 100% polyurethane was introduced, and this SHATTERED virtually every existing world record in Competitive swimming by a 2-5% decrease in times (WHICH is A TON in swimming at this level.) These 2009 suits, and sometimes the 2008 suits, which added less, but still a fairly substantial increase in speed are known as "Super Suits." In 2010, any polyurethane at all in suits was banned, and perhaps because full body suits got so associated with the now illegal compound; they were banned aswell. Now swim wear known as "Textile Suits" are no longer permitted to be made with polyurethane, are not more buoyant than water, and are shorter than at the knee. People tend to consider the fastest times before the Supersuit era and after it (both in textile suits) as the actual world records; in some cases of exceptional swims, they are the world record. TLDR: They banned full body suits cuz they usually had POLYURETHANE in them, a material that made swimmers go much faster than with something that mimicks human skin. People essentially saw the suits as not really swimming; or rather swimming in a way that was not "natural" or "real" (There are many other reasons aswell however.) The issue wasn't really that they "covered the entire body" however, that has a marginal effect on times; its rather the material that suits from 2008-2009 used known as Polyurethane that made them so much faster than the suits used before and after.
Yes i have none. But you also have none. you and your country don't have any gold medalists in swimming but we (america) does. That is something to be proud of.
I don't think Park Tae Hwan is swimming in this WC. I'm not positive on it, but I've heard he is skipping it. I don't think Biedermann will do much, unless he goes back to his old stroke.
At the 2008 olympics, these suits were as previously mentioned, 50% polyurethane; which while adding a 1-1.25% decrease in time, wasn't that much faster than non-polyurethane suits (Also why phelps's many world record setting performances in 2008 are still held as the fastest in the world.)
Yet, in 2009 a suit that was 100% polyurethane was introduced, and this SHATTERED virtually every existing world record in Competitive swimming by a 2-5% decrease in times (WHICH is A TON in swimming at this level.) These 2009 suits, and sometimes the 2008 suits, which added less, but still a fairly substantial increase in speed are known as "Super Suits."
In 2010, any polyurethane at all in suits was banned, and perhaps because full body suits got so associated with the now illegal compound; they were banned aswell.
However, Yang's coaching problems might be a serious issue. I've heard rumors of him dropping various events.
What happened between Sun Yang and Park Taiwan or however it's spelled, what happened since they tied?
They both get silver and no bronze medal is awarded to anyone.
Shinoda908 oh ok
Park Taiwan Lol
Why isnt michael swimming can someone please tell me?
I know right? All that was missing was Phelps Thorpe and VDH and it would have been the best field in history.
YES!
That would probably be pretty close. Yannick does 3:43 for 400, Sun does 4:40 and Yannick is the faster 200m swimmer.
I don't think Park Tae Hwan is swimming in this WC. I'm not positive on it, but I've heard he is skipping it. I don't think Biedermann will do much, unless he goes back to his old stroke. Also, in regards to your earlier post about Agnel and Lochte, neither of them are top in the world. Izotov is. He whipped out a 1:44 a little while ago. I think the race will be Izotov, Agnel, and Lochte fighting for the finish.
exactly my thought xD ... "he cant even medal" you wont believe that he´s talking about an olympic finalist in one of the hardest sports out there like that on youtube...wtf
epic lineup
WOAH we can comment on these now?
Just look at Paul biederman his suit gave him that 1.42. He is 3 seconds off
....just enjoy the video guys and leave all the debates behind!
Definitely.
Agnel did not choke. He is not in great shape as he switched coaches and moved to america. He was faster at the 150m in barcelona than here. Difference was here he came back in 25.98 and in barcelona only 27.20 due to not being in top notch shape
2016 200m there's no full video on the match...
No. I really can say which is best. Agnel won 1 individual medal in the Olympics. Sun won 3. The stats don't lie.
if this were a 200m straight with no turns and no start, sun yang takes them to school. too bad his turns and start are those of a distance swimmer
lol watch the race, he plays catch up every 50 after the turn, where he loses half a body easily
+sscswimmer1
Distance swimmers have more turns than any of the other swimmers. They should be the best at doing turns.
+tallswede80 do you swim? because anyone who does would know distance swimmers turns are no where near those of sprinters. their turns are efficient, but not as fast, just look at the video
sscswimmer1
yes, I swim. Making excuses for him isn't going to accomplish anything.
+tallswede80 I wasn't making an excuse for him lol I was observing the fact that during the actual swimming portion of the race he's dominant
why the heck they have got the same googles
Does anyone know what suit Biedermann is wearing?
