Honestly, this is the best menswear channel on RUclips. No over advertising like alpha m and rmrs. Not as long and dreary as gentlemans gazette, and you do actual product reviews and give great commentary on the huge brands that everyone is asking about. I also find myself actually finishing your videos, unlike other channels where I lose interest fast.

I tried Indochino and it was an utterly frustrating experience, the suit took weeks to arrive, was then blocked by customs (another €70 in customs fees), I tried it on and the pants were more or less fine but the jacket was completely wrong. I tried the remake process and it was a disaster, ultimately they kept my money and I have no suit. Customer service was horrific, really appreciate that you provided an honest review here.

LOVE my Indochino suit. The crew in store was amazing. Very helpful with the sizing and everything. Fabrics were really nice. The alterations were covered up to $75 (I didn't pay any extra for it) and completed in two weeks. Every time I wear it out I get tons of compliments on it. I'd HIGHLY recommend going in to an Indochino store to get fitted for the first one and once the measurements are updated on the final fit of that then order online.

Where each MTM brand makes their suits...
Indochino - Dayang's factory in Dalian, China
    Hockerty - Shanghai , China
    Black Lapel - China
    Oliver Wicks - Bulgaria, Europe
    Suitsupply - China
Oliver Wicks doesn't garner enough attention as they're fairly new but their customer service and quality was unexpectedly positive. They work with well known fabric mills in Italy , my emails were answered within 1-2 business days. Emilia is awesome! There are also discount codes that can be found for OW. They're underrated!

Indochino was the first MT.M. I bought. That was around 10 years ago and I went to their Boston showroom. I'm afraid I was disappointed. While the fit was acceptable (after alterations) the fabric was not nor was the construction. The fabric was light with all the problems you mentioned. The construction was what one would expect from an inexpensive off the rack suit. Among other disappointments the canvas was bonded thus the jacket started puckering within a few years. I now go to a showroom in Boston, Hive & Colony. They do not offer internet service but have showrooms in several cities. While I am spending more for my suits I am getting the quality and fit I expect.

  • @Chris_Davis_music

Great video. Thanks for the update on the companies. Here's my two cents:
My first suit from Indochino fit great, after they remade the pants. That was a couple of years ago; last week I ordered my second suit. Their prices have gone up a fair bit since then, being about on par with Oliver Wicks. A couple of days after ordering, I received an email from them saying "Thanks for ordering, we hope you're looking forward to your new shirt!".
I emailed back, but did not receive a personalized reply. Rather, it was an automated email saying a case has been created and they are looking into it. I am not pleased. Finally, I came across this video just now, and I'm 100% sold on Oliver Wicks.
Just now, I'm trying to cancel the order/request a refund, but it appears Indochino no longer offer a refund, only a credit. Since I need the suit for a gig later in August (read: time-sensitive), I am really not feeling good about this purchase. I sent Indochino a pretty aggressive letter asking them to stop production of my suit/shirt/hat/whatever they're making and process a refund. I will let you fine folks know what comes out of it.
For anyone who's on the fence, Indochino no longer offers refunds, but Oliver Wicks appears to. I recommend going with the latter, especially if customer service is as the Kavalier describes.

I called my closest Suit Supply location in California and found out a few things. The custom made suits do include free alterations at first, but there's no guarantee for alterations later if you find something doesn't fit well later, unlike Oliver Wicks 365 day guarantee. The custom made suits at SS start at $639, which is not the same as their Made-to-Measure service, which only available at certain locations, and starts at $999. The custom made lets you choose your fabric and a few basic options and you choose a basic size, which can then be altered for free (one time), whereas the MTM has more fabric and customization options similar to OW MTM service. One thing You mentioned in the video with your flow chart is if you want it fast and there's a location near you, then go with SS, but talking to the representative I was told the average time for their Custom-Made suits is 4-6weeks, and due to chinese new year (and their suits being made in china) it would be 7-8 weeks as of right now. Due to this information, I think it's hard to compare SS MTM starting at $999 to Oliver Wick's MTM service starting at $499. With SS Custom Made, it starts at $639, which is closer in price, but 4-6 weeks, or in my case, 7-8 weeks, Oliver Wicks is still the fastest option, and that's for an actual MTM suit with more fabric and customization options.
With this information, I'd like to ask you what you would prefer in terms of quality between Oliver Wicks and Suit Supply.

I was highly put off by Indochino. I took a trip to my closest SuitSupply to look into a tux for my wedding. As I was walking through the mall i spotted an Indochino and stopped by to check it out and perhaps get my numbers professionally measured. I was the only customer in the store but wasnt approached by any of the employees and when i finally went up to one of them I was told I had to go online or call to make an appt to get measured. I understand procedure and all..but again..empty store..C'mon guy. Fast forward to SuitSupply and I couldnt ask for better customer service! Ended up with a tux im in love with. Short jacket length is a quirk (38L needed another 3/4 let out) and its an adjustment wearing your pants higher up as their fit calls for but overall im a huge fan. Definitely going to return.

Great video! You got it exactly right. I've spent the past year buying from each one of these companies and I completely agree with your thoughts. I personally prefer Black Lapel over Oliver Wicks ( I have two suits from each of them),
I personally prefer the construction of the BL suits better than OW. I'm very picky about fit in the shoulder and BL nailed it. The craftsmanship with the detailing is also better than OW. OW buttonholes showed some fraying, but BL stitching was clean and beautiful. The customer service is also slightly better at BL.
I believe OW is 100% machine made with hand detailing if you specifically ask for it. BL does more handmade work. But OW has the upper hand in terms of fabric quality from well-know Italian mills and more alterations reimbursement. OW also has a stiffer canvas material which works well for formal suits but not so great with more casual suits.

Very spot on. My first MTM was from Oliver Wicks, then Dragon Inside. The construction and craftsmanship is really good. The suit feels good to the touch. Even if I made a few errors in my measurement it still looked and feels great on first try. Now, I just got my Indochino suit, badly constructed, you can feel the cheap Chinese work. It felt like an off the rack suit and sleeves are too short, too much fabric on the midsection. Just emailed them about the suits problems and yet to hear from them. We'll see how they will rectify this.

So I just got my premium Oliver Wicks suit. I don't buy off the rack because I'm heavy these days... best coat is a US 39 but sleeves need shortening and probably wear a 35/30 slack, so am like a drop 3-4. I'm also used to a higher rise. Sent picks as well. Otherwise, I'd buy off the rack. I was very careful with my measurements and so far OW has been very good on the customer services. The material is very nice. Coat fit - pretty good actually... a bit snug across the back and could have used maybe an extra 1/2 inch when buttoned. Slack not good at all. Its low rise, seat was very bad. I had one seamtress drop the crotch and redo the seat and helped a bit but still not right. Took it to my better seamtress and she pointed out that the fabric was sew on a bias, so weave angled at about 10-15% against the waistband vs straight up and down. She didn't want to mess with it. I looked again at the jacket and the front panels are also sew so that the weave is on a pronounced bias, about 15-20%. If it were a plaid, the pattern would run at a pronounced angel. When I look at quality suits on line, that's not the case. They stood behind it and am sending it back, not sure if they plan to remanufacture it or not. May try made to measure from Nordstroms or Black Label next. Not sure about Hugo Boss suit separates. Thanks for a really helpful video.

They had trouble taking my measurements, they had problems ordering the suit, they lied, and they were not very helpful. I called and canceled my order the next day and received a full refund since I canceled within 24 hours.

Great Video! I have a question: Have you tried or know about the super 150 -160 fabric of Oliver wicks?. Im thinking abut buying a suit with this fabric but I dont know if the difference between super 120 and super 160 is not much.

    @The Kavalier
Hi Kavalier, great video! I just got my first oliver wicks suit, and I have to agree with you about the outstanding quality. I am just hoping suit supply starts offering a MTM online service. Anyways, I am interested in black lapel, but before I invest in another suit, can you tell me if the wool quality is just as good as oliver wicks? Unfortunately, they don't post the mills they receive their fabrics from. Are we just left to assume that they're using high quality fabrics like VBC?

Which fit did you get from Black Lapel? I'm considering either the slim fit or the tailored fit for myself. Would you say those fits are closer to Oliver Wicks's European styling?

I've had a different experience with Combat Gent. Their stuff isn't the highest quality, but that's to be expected. For what it is though, I'd say my suits, shirts, and topcoat from them are very nice for the price.

Love the content of this video! I'm looking at getting a wedding suit from Suit Supply or Tom James. I know Suit Supply has half-canvassed suits and from what I read pretty good materials (I also like the price). With Tom James their custom made suit is fused and starts at $750. Apparently the material is good. Which one would you advise to go with?

Hey. What are your thoughts on Shoulder Divot? I'm seeing this a lot and was wondering why you think this happens?
small shoulder measurement, tight arm holes, tight suit? all of the above? I hear some tailors say it's because arms are too "muscular"

If I may offer a small piece of advice, don't think it's a risk because you'll be in that state and looking for issues all the time. Instead, enjoy the process and be grateful that you're able to have this kind of suit and a great body to wear it on. All the best.
      Alex.

Great vid... I've purchased several Jos. A. Banks off the rack and had them tailored but with only so-so results, largely because their styling was not up to date. I switched to made to measure and tried MySuit, with pretty good results at a great price. I then gave Indochino a try. Hated it. Absolutely hated the experience. Everything from the tailoring (had to have the jacket adjusted twice) to lies from the sales rep, to louse... absolutely lousy customer service. I wouldn't spit on that company if they were on fire. I'm about to give Kashiyama (new Japanese-style entry) a try, but will also try Oliver Wicks, as I prefer the European styling over any other... while keeping Black Lapen on stand-by... that was a gorgeous black suit with the maroon interior lining.

  • @conchobar
    @conchobar 5 лет назад

From my personal experience and some others I know, if you struggle to get a properly fit suit off the rack, you're not going to get one from made-to-measure outets. For people with a slightly odd build, you are still better off buying off the rack and having it tailored, or going full bespoke.

First allow me to express my appreciation for the information you shared on MTM suits I have been trying to decide on a company to purchase from after viewing your video I chose to try Suit Supply and Black lapel unfortunately I was not able to get the suits I wish to order due to limited sizes and fabric selection I was told I could be put on a waiting list and notified later if the suit would be available I was however directed to the higher price suits selection which seem to have a wider offering size an fabric so my question here is does this seem to be a common issue with MTM suits ordering online or will I simply do just as well buying off the rack? Thanks (my size is 38 regular 30 waist 31 inseam)

I think I'm tempted give Oliver Wicks a go. I like SuitSupply but they do 2 things that really annoy me. They hike the price depending on the location they open (Denmark is 30% more expensive than Germany, hard to justify specially since they say its due to currency issues and the Danish crown is pegged with the Euro) and then they charge for alterations, which I need 3 or 4 jobs to get it perfect...which ends up being more expensive than OW... I've never heard of them but I might reach out and see if they do a good job. If they do, i can be a really good long term customer!
If you have any good or bad experience with the brand let me know bellow! Cheers.

I love you video but I have a question. Suitsupply has a store in my city I can get measured by a pro. Or I can go to a long established men’s store and get a Samuelsohn MTM for about the same money.
    Thought please advise?

Samuelsohn. Suitsupply is a good product but Samuelsohn is a by far the better option. You can chose from over 50 clothes ranging from unbranded Super 110's to wool-cashmere mixes from Loro Piana. All Samuelsohn jackets are fully canvassed.

You should add the true cost of the overall suit including alterations, shirts, vest, shoes. It's way more than the advertised prize. Often enough you won't just buy a suit cause it goes with a matching tie, shirt, socks, shoes that compliment it and MTM's almost always need alterations.
