I’m 6’3 and 260lbs geared up. I rode this bike stock for a year, then did a complete overhaul on the suspension and put taller bars on. 100% different bike, it’s completely confidence inspiring. I love that you can mount the bars farther forward on the bike and drop the foot pegs a half inch. I agree with you though, you need to be put some money into it to tap into its true potential.

@@JeffWalker84 hey Jeff my dad likes a real stable front end on a bike, he wants it to stay straight in braking and acceleration bumps and doesn't want it to get a headshake. I have a 2018 kx450f, a 2010 yz250, and I've ridden test rides of all the 2019 yz's, 125, 250f, 250, and 450. I've also ridden a friends 2018 KTM 125. They all ride similar in my opinion, I never get head shakes and it stays stable. I haven't rode any modern cr's or rm's so I don't know how they compare to the rest. I also have a 2003 kx250 and it rides similar to all the bikes I mentioned I've ridden, but I'd say without a doubt it rides the most different and the front end is the least stable. In your opinion where would you rank these from most stable to least stable front end. And would you place it there mainly because of the stock bars (bad or uncomfortable bend) or because of the chassis and fork setup, etc.

the grips kill my hands by the end of the day, using single, or dual layer palmed gloves. Getting the grips off the Kawasaki's require a small bomb, lol. or to razor them off, and grind the remaining pieces off. if your replacing the bars, that takes care of the left grip, and for the throttle grip, I'd recommend Motion Pro' s Titan Throttle Tube ("offer a Lifetime Limited Warranty").
I will have to try adding oil to the forks. I actually thought they were too stiff. I commented on Michael Lindsay's video, and he commented back, they're too soft, so they blow through the initial stroke and goes right to the mid where it stiffens up (which you, Jeff) said yourself being too soft.
The bars, I've always run stock. Never wanted to try different bend, in case I didn't like them, and it'd just be wasted money.
As for the 1-1/8" fat bars, I didn't want to bother with the oversized mounts as well.
Do you (or anybody) notice more or less feedback, less vibration with oversized since there's no crossbar and the may flex more??

it's kinda funny to see these bikes in US. Here in Brazil, it's basically impossible to have a crf250r, kxf, yzf because their price (We only have the options of crf230 and the 250f). Buy a bike like this in Brazil is the same think that buy the same bike in US costing more than $50,000 dollars.

I'm 6'7 and have always found that risers and tall seats just mess up the egos and handling for me. I'd look at finding the most comfortable bend of bar and finding the right position to put them in. Lower footpegs might help free up the cockpit as well.

the first thing you talked about, the handlebars. Isnt there 2 options on the triple clamp for just that reason ? one in the back so the handlebars is closer to the bike and one further away ? I have a 2019 kx250 and on my bike it´s there. Its my first Kawasaki and I love it big time! Havent tried to " front" position on the triple clamp tho but it sounds like it can make you tilt the handlebars backwards like you did and still have your body in a neutral position.! Great Vid !

Those are insanely tall ape hangers? Lol. Play with some vintage bikes and you'll encounter some genuinely insane bars. When I bought my Maico I had to replace the bars because the ones it had before were FIVE INCHES taller than I wanted them to be. Or grab something from the early '70s and you might find the bars are whole no-shit 12 inches wider than anything you've ridden before. It's nuts. People had weird theories about ergos back in the day.

Honda works fanboys should check out the Keeferinc KX 450 mods.. this bike is a baseline and is easily made better than straight out of the box testing.. the kawi runs the same front spring as the Honda, they also use the same handlebar bend. New Honda’s are having ecu issues

When i initially went to go buy a new bike in April of this year I sat on the 19 Kx 450 first and didn’t feel comfortable on it at all and that was just on the showroom floor I couldn’t imagine how I’d feel on the track with it and the other thing that was a real deal breaker to me other than the comfort issues was the enormous Pipe that was almost fully exposed and it was a big eye sore to me especially when you put a pricey exhaust on it and you lay it down and it completely ruins the look of the pipe. Needless to say I went with a Honda. Not bashing Kawasaki they are great bikes just not for me

EVER THINK OF SWAPPING OVER THE TRACTION CONTROLE BUTTON TO THE LEFT, SO IT SAT NEXT TO THE ENGINE STOP BUTTON? That way you can move the clutch lever. look at the gap on 7:57 Bet the Mechanic did not think of that. I swear by Kawasaki. Hondas brake, KTM and Huski are the same in the end and are way over priced for what they are. Jeff your comfortable on the Honda, that's why you got another one. I think in 2019 and 2020 all shootouts are kinda pointless! Think about it! When you buy a bike, you set it up to YOU! THE RIDER! then.... you throw some trick parts at it.... Hell ... even the RMZ can haul ass! It's gotten to the point on what color do you like!!!

That was horrible first impression.....instead of spending 3 minutes on bar bend dislike, just say the bend wasn't for you. or the bars suck. Definitely not set up for smaller people. I've ridden every 2019 and some 2020 bikes and I specifically picked the kawi because I'm 6'5" and I felt most comfortable on it. Suspension was amazing, I weigh 260 and need to go up in the shock spring, but the forks are awesome once you figure the stock settings are way off. Hydro clutch is unreal .....best 9k I've ever spent, for sure!

@@ironmonkey1512 nothing personal there.....just criticism of an impression. Impressions should be generic and non biased. Definitely not what I saw there. That's why I really like shout outs and impressions with dynos and hard facts.

I'm bummed that you guys didn't change a few things on the bikes as that's what 95% of people do when they get a bike. I always swap to a lower and flatter bar before I even ride the bike. I would like to see a more realistic shootout where you change a few small comfort items such as the bars, mapping, pegs, grips, levers, seat cover, and suspension.

    • @JeffWalker84
      @JeffWalker84  5 лет назад +1

I would have liked to make a few changes, but the rules were to ride them in stock form. Maybe we can bend the rules in the future! Would possibly make for a better test.
The issue with that is all the riders have different bars/suspension setup preferences so we'd have to be swapping our bars and suspension on to each bike we rode. I don't think it would be logistically doable unless we spread it out over a few weeks (which also wasn't logistically do-able). Hopefully we can find a happy medium for future shootouts

@@JeffWalker84 I think bending the rules would be more beneficial to the customer, which is exactly what Micheal should be doing. I think he's doing it this way because that's what he did in the past but honestly this is his chance to bring more utility into these shootouts. Have the man think outside of the box and with some business strategy!
I do agree with you about the logistics and agreeing on different set ups but I'm sure you could do everything outside of the suspension on the fly (how long does it take to change bars, 20 minutes with all of the controls)? For suspension, it may be better to get an agreed setting and run that as a base. Obviously, with the caveat that this suspension may not be fully valved, nor sprung for your specific weight but should be better than stock.
All of this is being said constructively and with love!

@@Okheck I disagree man. Go to your local MX track (a larger one if yours is a tiny backyard set up) and look around. You'll see that many customers have Mika bars, different types of Rental bars that were not stock, Pro taper bars on KTM's that aren't stock, gold chains, after market sprockets which probable gear changes, different tires (I'm up here in the North West with lots of hardback), fancy foot pegs, Vp fuel everywhere, Tokyo Mods stickers for eco mapping, frame grippers, ect. The list goes on and on man. Coming from a business background Micheal needs to look at his target audience and think, "What would they do to their bikes?" We'll I just listed a huge list that a majority of kids do. Yes, there is a small percentage of people who run their bikes stock but they typically only do that when they're just getting into the sport. They have no preferences and therefore do not change much. Also, most new riders don't go out and purchase a 10K brand new bike as their first bike so this method doesn't stand.
Go take a walk around your pits during your next practice or race day to see what I mean!
