    Nice one David. Good to see a straight forward and to point video, which I know is going to be very useful to people.

    Thanks for the informative video! Whoever built my house 40 odd years ago decided to put the attic hatch in one of the bedroom closets (built-in, USA syle). Sure, it's neatly tucked away, but you have to empty out the closet and squeeze your ladder, your tools, and yourself past the shelf and hanging rod. Was hoping to relocate it out into the hallway for easier access, but wasn't sure what all would be involved or if I could manage it by myself. By the by, my roof is just about as shallow as yours since it's a "hip" roof (pyramid shaped).

    As a self-employed joiner I've been earning my living over the past 18yrs doing a lot of loft conversions and in all that time I can honestly say I've never come across a loft as shallow as yours Dave. Nice job again as we have come to expect from you, pity you can't use the loft space as a room . The lathe and plaster ceilings in older houses are a nightmare to cut into the muck and dust is horrendous. Nice neat job mate what's next I wonder?

    that loft is small, but our is tighter. even a kid can barely crawl in it.

    Thanks for the informative video. At 13:15 did you cut the hole too big by accident or was there some reason for that? When you said at the end 'very easy, very quick to install' I was thinking about the replastering part you missed out. A concertina loft ladder should fit up there even if there is hardly any room

      Ironbuket hi and thanks for watching, no i did no re plastering and yes i movered it over about 200mm as it wasnt the best place at first bit a very easy fix using the board that came down and some cloak to clean the joint line

    Hello. Im fitting a loft hatch now for the first time. My instructions tell me to cut the hole 2.4cm bigger than the loft frame dimensions. Why is this ?

    • @dmgladden
      @dmgladden  Год назад

      Hi this could be why most people like me throw away the instructions without reading, best use a tape on your new frame and get your own sizes for the hole

    Did you have to support the joist before cutting it out? I always thought you had to brace it by fixing a length of timber across three joist in order to keep it from dropping before putting the bridle in? I am looking to do this in my own house soon and trying to gather some info in it. Cheers 👍🏼

    • @dmgladden
      @dmgladden  3 года назад

      Yes that is correct you must or it will sag even with no weight on it

    1920 with metal vertical joist hanger was the roof rebuilt?

      That was my upgrade to the existing trusses

    Really helpful video thanks David.
    This might be obvious from each hatch, but are they screwed into the joists on all four sides or just both sides (on the 'permanent' joists rather than the added braces needed to support the hole)?

    • @dmgladden
      @dmgladden  4 года назад +1

      Thank you, yes screw all 4 sides

    Helpful video, did you do a video on how to install the light and switch??

    • @dmgladden
      @dmgladden  5 лет назад

      no sorry i didn't but its just a feed taken from the light circuit that's up there and go through the pull switch with the live, that's really all you need to know, if that sounds confusing then probably best ask a mate that knows these things to help

    3:37-3:55 You should give your noisy todler a tenner and send him the betting office for an hour, I do it for mine. Keeps them entertained. Just make sure they don't sneak off to the pub instead, mine like to do that and come back rotten-drunk throwing up everywhere and crying like its not their own soft fault for being a lightweight and not being able to handle their drink.
