Cost billions of dollars for repair, delay for hundreds of people, and possibly other people’s lives, even if he didn’t mean to hurt anyone, he still could’ve hurt someone because he doesn’t know how to fly a plane. Imagine giving a toddler a car, the toddler wouldn’t have any intention to hurt anyone, but probably would anyways. Don’t come at me with “deserted island” because to get to that deserted island, he would have to take off and fly over land, which could’ve easily resulted in many accidents.

Credit to @Nachito for making this comment, interpolated with a Delta pilot's own words:
"**He indeed put lives in danger.**
Copying someone else's comment from above, 'You all are so wrong. I’m a pilot myself, and I fly for Delta. Anytime there is an aircraft operating on its own accord near such a large airport, it creates chaos. There were multiple opportunities where he could’ve collided with other traffic, which would’ve killed hundreds. If you’re going 200-250 mph, you will not be able to see and avoid that traffic. He also is not a certified pilot, and even though he probably flew sims, he obviously didn’t know wtf he was doing (his brakes were smoking on takeoff, so he was either applying them or the parking brake was left on). This could’ve resulted in a major loss of life if he had lost control of the aircraft. Anyways, yea he put a population about 100,000 different people at a risk of dying that day. We’re just lucky he was the only casualty.'
A single mistake can end in a tragedy, planes are not that simple, and not being an specialist makes it more probably to commit a mistake that can have huge results. Luckily for him and us, nothing happened, but the high risk was there."

You’re the type of people who make these types of news updated where you cut things out of context because you love making anybody look like the villain.
