I was having difficulty using Command and R when restarting as it wasn't showing me a drive to install the original OS which was OS X Yosmite 10.10. Turned out using Option, Command and R made my computer look for the most up to date OS for my computer (Mac Air early 2015). macOS Monterey popped and allowed me to select and follow the steps for install. Yay! So simple but took me a while to find the right advice on line.

You can try recovery over the Internet. Try all 3: Command-R: Start up from the built-in macOS Recovery System. Use this key combination to reinstall the latest macOS that was installed on your system, or to use the other apps in macOS Recovery. Option-Command-R: Start up from macOS Recovery over the internet. Use this key combination to reinstall macOS and upgrade to the latest version of macOS that’s compatible with your Mac. Option-Shift-Command-R: Start up from macOS Recovery over the internet. Use this key combination to reinstall the version of macOS that came with your Mac or the closest version that’s still available. @@xEqualsRandom He said ‘reinstall macOS from scratch’, which is like starting fresh. For example, imagine getting a new Mac. When you are installing the OS, it’s similar. Like hard resetting an iPhone.
Okay I deleted my hard drive forever ago and it causes my Touch ID to lag or when entering my password on start up it takes a while to allow me to even type it in- once I get it typed in and I click return- it takes what seems like an unnecessarily long time to process. Which it wasn’t like this before. So on immediate start up it will say that your Macintosh HD cannot be unlocked so in the video it says if it ask you to unlock your McIntosh HD to just enter your password. But if it doesn’t let you unlock it? I’ve tried a couple different things just reading online but it always gives me an error saying it can’t be unlocked- I can’t remember if it gives me the same issue on recovery mode but it does whenever I log into my user. Also when I go to my finder my Macintosh HD is grayed out and I can’t even select it so my current hard drive is titled untitled 1. I’ve tried downloading the pasted software back on but literally nothing has worked so I’m hoping someone else has this issue and I’m just missing something small.

I have an iMac. Will that work?
I was having difficulty using Command and R when restarting as it wasn't showing me a drive to install the original OS which was OS X Yosmite 10.10. Turned out using Option, Command and R made my computer look for the most up to date OS for my computer (Mac Air early 2015). macOS Monterey popped and allowed me to select and follow the steps for install. Yay! So simple but took me a while to find the right advice on line.

It’s not showing a disk to install
You can try recovery over the Internet.
Try all 3:
Command-R: Start up from the built-in macOS Recovery System.
If nothing repairs the missing partition, then your Mac needs to be seen at an Apple Authorized Service Provider or Apple Store.
