-- NEW HERE? --
Hi! My name is Lashan, and I moved 16000km away from my home in Sydney Australia to try and make a life in my favourite city in the whole world - Montreal, Canada. Follow me on my journey making a life on the opposite side of the planet! I share my life as an expat trying to make a life here, guides on how to do it, travel videos, travel stories, lifestyle stuff and vlogs as well. I love travel, photography, video and just creating stuff in general, so come join me as I try to smash it all together.
Hell yeah man, really liked the vid! I'm going through similar steps as I just moved to London for the same reason you moved to Montreal. Like you said, this topic isn't talk about a lot so it's cool to see a similar case happening. Best of luck with your new job and enjoy Iceland! :)
Thanks so much Alex! I'm glad to hear it resonated :) Bonne chance à Londres, je sais que c'est difficile mais tu peux le faire 💪
“A river does not cut through a rock because of its strength, but because of its persistence”. Congrats on your new job, well deserved!
Love the quote 🔥 🔥 Thank you man!
I experienced some of the same feelings when I was job-hunting in Montreal years ago. I worked there for a few years, got integrated and it started to feel much easier. Now I'm living in a new country and starting all over again from scratch.
Most people don't realize the extent of the things they take for granted every day (language, visa, being integrated into the "system" of their home country).
Although moving is very tough, I think everyone should experience an international move at least once.
100% agreed! If everyone experienced what it's like to move and make a life in another country the world would be a much better place 😊
Lashan, this is a very inspiring video, I really admire your persistence and creativity....thanks for sharing all of your experiences. The world needs more people like you!
Thank you so much! Means a lot 😊
😭😭😭😭this is such amazing news... You give me so much hope... I'm so happy for you and I hope you continue to grow and succeed... Well done!
Thank you Michael! Means so much that it hit a chord 😊
Why would you move from Sydney to Montreal ?
Hi iam moving from Sydney to Canada. WHV .....I am still deciding on which city to move to....Your video is really great....Thanks for all the inspiration......Happy for You men...Finally u got the job...Hopefully I also lend a job in Canada...
Thank you so much! :D Good luck to you
Come to Toronto, you wont have issues finding a job here
So proud of you! ♥️♥️♥️
Mercii Dora 💕
Congratulations! Very happy for you! 👏🏻Enjoy Iceland!🌋
Thanks so much! 😁
This guy is a fantastic story teller
Awe, I am so happy for you! After you said you got the contract, I was expecting you to say they flaked out on me..💖
Thank you!! HAHAHAHA I'd be so done if that happened 😂
This is Great! Don’t even know you but I’m so freaking happy for you. I want to move to Montreal from the U.S but I’m deathly afraid of the language barrier. This was really encouraging. Congrats again.
happy for u. congrates.
Thank you!
Yayayaya so proud of you!
Wooooo
Do you think IT/business/ system analyst job is plentiful in Montreal? I'm Anglo Canadian btw that plans to move their after grad and learn French and find a job there as well
yes it is
But wait, so you got hired and then you left? For good? I'm confused. What happened to the job?? lol.
hahahaha 😂 I got the job, organised to start in 2 weeks and then left immediately for Iceland (to celebrate) - starting the job after I got back
@@LashanR Aahhhh, got it. Perfect :-)
May it in Punjabi language
First off, it sounds like the first job was only asking its employees to work typical jours for typicalnpay rather than the 2 day work week, 5 day weekend with huge bonus situation. Why would you leave as a new comer? I geel like you set tourself up for failure by expecting unrealistic goals.
You could never become fluent living in Montreal dude- you should have gone to a small town where no one speaks (or likes!) English, for the first 3 months and IMMERSED yourself because as you say, fluency is a baseline and no one speaks French the way the Quebecois do so...
It was a per project job, not an hourly rate. And you can definitely become fluent while still being in Montréal. And why bother writing out this comment when you didn't watch the whole video?
I live in Montreal going through similar pains planning to move out too. thx for sharing
I am from Melbourne, Australia.
Like you, I having a difficultly to learning French while looking for the new position...
Therefore, I've decided to leave and go to Ontario. Good luck mates!
I would of never left aussie // i am Canadian and i wish i was living in Australia not toronto! I lived in Montreal about 15 yrs ago and I had a really bad experience. Might be different now . Toronto is crazy expensive and very hard to build a live and save because of it. But there's no perfect city! You like or not!
You're really, really gifted at story telling. You've gotten me so invested in your successes that I did a dance when you said you got the job. Congrats on this HUGE milestone, PLEASE continue to let the world in on your life!
Wow... thank you so much!! I'm so happy over how well this is being received 😄I will for sure!
Congrats on landing that job Lashan, you’re super brave for sticking it out! I’m from Melbourne and my girlfriend is from Montreal, now I’m considering what my options are and whether moving to Montreal is even a possibility. Would be awesome to get some tips from you on applying for jobs and just how important it is to know French for say a corporate / consulting job. Btw, keep up the good work with with your videos, it’s bloody motivating hearing your stories :)
Thanks Jack! For corporate/consulting it's definitely crucial, unless if you work in the tech sector. That's the only way around it really. I really appreciate it, thanks again 😁
Wow this seems like torture! I hate searching for jobs so much I've resolved to make up my own work :P
It really was, glad I'm through it now!! That's one option haha
Thanks for this. I can't imagine how difficult it is moving from another country. I moved from Toronto - five hours away and found the same! Quebec is not the Rest of Canada. It is very different and difficult for all the reasons you listed. Best of luck!
I want to hire him but I'm unemployed
It's been a while since you posted this, but this was the first video of yours that I've watched, and I couldn't help but feel so happy for you at the end. You're a great storyteller...I kept waiting for the "...but [sad news]" but it never came!
I'm looking to move to Montreal/Vancouver/Toronto to work in the VFX/Animation industry. It already seems far easier than the hell you went through (in terms of job-hunting) however, the French has me worried...did you find it difficult at first, not knowing much French?
Much love from the UK!
I'm honestly so legitimately happy for you! When I saw the title i was so sad bc im from montreal and i hoped to cross paths with you someday to tell you how much i like your videos!!!
HAHAHAHA I'm sorry for scaring you 😂 Thank you so much, that means a lot!! I'm always up and about so it's bound to happen eventually!
This is totally awesome bro ... all the best and keep on hustling ... love from Sri Lanka cheers .. you inspired me today
@Lashan: Thanks a lot for this video. I actually thought being exceptional in French would really help me secure a job like a God when I eventually move to Montreal as well. Based on your knowledge, do you feel there's availability of IT jobs such as: Information Systems Business Analyst, Consultancy, or Application programmers in Montreal? Do applicants with these IT skills also find it extremely tough to get a job over there as well just as you experienced?
You're welcome! I don't know about those specific jobs, but trying to find a job in IT/software here is way easier than what I went through
You're a tough one for sure!
This is awesome mate! Congratulations on getting the job and making it through some tough times. Love the difference between Amma and Thathi's reactions ahah. Great to see you thriving mate.
Thanks Charitha!! Really appreciate it 😄 HAHAHA thathi's reaction was so Lankan hey 😂
What a fucking awesome video, Lashan. I was so stressed out. Really inspired me! Have a good time in Iceland. I'm coming to Montréal in 2 weeks on a IEC.
That means so much, thank you Florian!! 😁 I wish you luck dude
great video!! glad to know that you have find a good job! I'm taking a bachelor in management engineering in Italy and I hope to move to Canada with the work holiday (at least at the beginning)! sadly our work holiday is just 12 months with only 6 months of working.. (sadly) I think nobody will hire someone for only six months guaranteed.. what do you think?
thanks, enjoy your Islandic holiday!
Fuck yeah buddy! Great video!
Thanks Sunny!! 😁
I thought you were leaving when I saw the title, and I felt really sad. I'm planning to make a similar move (from Sydney to Toronto) so I've gotten really invested in your success. Congratulations on the job :)
That means a lot Luca, thank you so much 😁 Best of luck to you!
@@LashanR how important is French to living in montreal? My girlfriend hasn't a word of French in her and mine is at an intermediate level and we hope to live there.
Basically crucial. The only way around it is if you're a software developer or if you work in entertainment. Bonne chance!
@@LashanR my girlfriend is currently studying graphic design and wants to work in entertainment. I'm studying to be a Physics teacher so I assume I can avoid French by teaching in an English school.
Watching this video after your other video where you ranted about how everything shattered and you're leaving for Europe.....it just makes this one hella hilarious 😂😂. At the same time I feel so bad for you
Fortunate favors the persistent 💖
Bro why u came to montreal from Australia
ruclips.net/video/98PrjLpU568/видео.html
Your honesty is so refreshing, it'll all work out how it's meant to man
Really appreciate it Mollie 😁 Thank you!
I did not think at the start you would fare out well haha, congratulations! You deserve this
I didn't either 😅 thank you!
I enjoyed your journey’s story!!!!
Congratulations bro. This honestly gave me so much hope
So happy to hear that 😁
Yeah dude, these recruiters make empty promises.
Good luck!
Having two interviewers is not due to good cop and bad cop. It is to avoid hiring bias since you have two different people. Usually one is a HR representative and the other is the manager of the department (e.g. engineering, production, marketing , and so on,). Construction industry is often done by internships or is often called here a "stage". Most of the jobs by the way are located away from the city centre. If the employer is government then don't expect getting in if you are not born in Quebec and white. Traveling is a trade off. You get to see new things but also eats your savings quickly.
What’s your ethnicity ?
Lol. Nice. Im glad for you man. But still think you should go to an english speaking area, like Alberta or BC, Quebec and Montreal are just weird man lol
Or Ontario
Montreal and Quebec are so weird???
The rest of Canada is so week culturally. You depend way to much on the United States for your destiny.
Wake up little Canuck.
@@californiabob3231 I ain't no Canuck bro I'm European you don't have to teach me anything about culture little American Bobby lmao
@@1DAWWWG Relax hahahaha
Hey, Lashan! I am so happy for u
Thank you Akbota! 😁
Please do a weekly video, you’re a great storyteller
Great video! Congrats!
Thanks Wilson! :)
well damn, thats crazy... super congrats on the accomplishment. I love montreal and would love to live there but I would have the same probs, my french is pretty much reading only, not conversational and my field isnt huge there... i'll just have to stick to a lot of visits lol.... but kudos to you, man.. love seeing ppl accomplish their goals... bonne chance avec tout et restez au chaud lol ...
Felt do relieved on hearing abt the job thing. But which jobs are actually demanded in Montreal?business students opportunities if any?
Merde ! c'est une autre façon de souhaiter 'bonne chance'.
Haha merci beaucoup 😄
Happy for you!
Cheers!
" bilingual isn't considered an advantage it's just the default it's expected "
What about being trilingual I mean it is accepted right ?
of course
i can not stop imaging a you without all the beard😄
I like this vid!Thank you for your share!
I have one of the most desired professions ever. I am a nurse. I am having trouble finding work in my field for the past two years. I work as a care aid worker for minimal wage.
Did you graduate in Universite de Montreal?
@@rhythmandacoustics no. Out of province. I dont speak french.
@@meandme8049 that's why. Nurses and mosts professions here are done with internships with their schools.
How old are you?
Very well done!! Very well narrated!!
Out of interest what visa are you on and how did you go about meeting people there? I can assure you country experience in Australia is a thing too if you’re not from here likewise in my home country of England. I moved to Sydney with 3 years of experience as an occupational therapist and I would never recommended a new grad do the same thing. I was fortunate as I had relevant experience coming here which cancelled out the stigma of not having Australian experience because I had a proven track record and something to offer so I’ve been able to get my foot in the door relatively easily. I’m hoping Canada isn’t as bad as here though, I’ve started learning French and have similar ambitions just for more life experience. Congrats on finding your job
Hi I am also an Australian, moving to Canada on a Working Holiday Visa (2years open work permit).. Hoping to find a job soon.
Aak Real I’m considering going to New Brunswick, can survive in English with a French presence. Seems like the job struggle would be less of a barrier without speaking fluent French
@@ForzaTerra89 are you also on WHV. I intend to apply PR...so currently i dnt wanna waste my time traveling but to actually find a skilled job so that i can apply for PR ..What you reckon which province is easier to get job...📶
Aak Real I'm still in Australia, I haven't applied for the visa yet, I also have no idea what thePR requirements are for Canada. My profession is on the wanted skill list, and ironically Quebec is the only province that doesn't require me to sit an exam to get my qualifications recognised so actually the easiest for me to work with. I've only just started to learn French though so I'm a good way off. Realistically I don't plan on travelling until next year
Hey man! Wanted to congratulate you. It’s really admirable that you pursued your dream and pushed through the crappiness of the job hunt process in Montreal (civil is notorious for that as you mentioned). Hope you enjoy Iceland and that your new job treats you well! It’s well-earned!
Hey Harrison! Thank you so much, really appreciate the message 😁 Glad all the effort was worth it!
You have any south indian connection?.... by family
Great video, 👍
Sri Lankan
Congrats man! Glad you'll be sticking around!! (Btw I'm that random dude you met at l'escalier like 3 weeks ago..)
Peace!
Hey!!! Was great running into you hahaha 😂 Thank you man!
Montreal has 2 engineering exclusively schools...and guess what they all speak 2 or 3 languages...you should have applied at tims dude...plus the baby-boomers are still flooding the job market
why is this video so long? i couldnt watch all of it even though i wanted to know ur reasons why
Guess you're not going to find out then 🤷🏽♂️
I couldn't even get through this whole video. Stop trying to be an "influencer" and maybe try to get a "real" job. I understand that some RUclipsrs these days make loads of money with interesting and "relevant" videos - but I'm sorry, you're not one of them.
Montreal may be a very social, laid back city, but we also expect a certain level of professionalism. If you don't know Montreal, or any other city you've landed in and are just trying to "make your RUclips mark"... then don't vlog about it. Seriously, these cities have much more history and culture that takes more than a few months to be able to experience and talk about.
How cute! You clearly didn't watch a single bit of the video, otherwise your comment would've made any sense 😂 Keep it up tiger, one day in your miserable life you'll hit the mark and hurt an internet strangers feelings 🔥🔥
Ok, so... after your reply, I watched the rest of the video that I didn't previously watch. I have one question, to get all the facts without assuming, before I post anything else... and that question is, did you actually take the job or did you blow it off and head to Iceland and not go back to Montreal and start working?
I took the job, the Iceland trip was in the 2 weeks before I started work
In that case, kudos, and I'm glad you did land the job and pursued it. I apologize that my initial comments were as harsh as they were. What really got me riled was all of the initial Montreal and Quebec bashing. It's an amazing city and province and I hope you do well.
