Actually...you do outperform the headliner every chance you get. That's when booking agencies realize your a bankable live act and offer you a headliner deal because they know that even though your an unknown, through word of mouth alone you'll pack the house. We were told that as a band we were supposed to upstage these motherfuckas every chance we got. L.O.N.S., Wu Tang, KRS, Van Halen, Metallica, Chris Brown and Redman and Methodman are all cut from that cloth. Motherfuckas are supposed to fear having you as an opening act. And it ain't personal. Fuck what you heard, bro.
@Future Society Of Gentlemen That's crazy though, because Rick always said that their music was so different from each other that it wasn't an issue. Prince was always weird and it took you a little while to get into his songs. But with Rick, the minute you heard the beat drop you IMMEDIATELY started jammin. He had way more funk in his music. Maybe I need to get the book
@Future Society Of Gentlemen Prince was a Punk musician from the underground scene of Minneapolis, Rick was a signed rich artist from the system. Obviously Rick hated that. BTW Prince was never ever mentored by anyone, he was his own man, just like Liberace.
I seem to recall that it was called the "Punk Funk tour. Rick was touring with "Fire it up LP and Prince was marketing "Dirty Mind" LP. Prince was not on the Rick James "Street Songs" tour. By that time he was touring with the Time/Vanity six (1981-1983).

@djvlad My father was in the radio business for his entire adult life. Around 1980, when I was about 12 years old, he had passes and my two sisters (14 and 10) and I saw Rick James in concert in my hometown of Macon, Ga. I'm pretty sure we were the only white people in the audience that night, and we were kids lol. I often wonder what the other concert-goers thought when they saw us standing in our chairs and rocking out without any adult there with us. I remember Rick saying at one point "I don't smell any weed yet!", which of course resulted in everyone lighting up. There were clouds of smoke everywhere, but it was no big deal to us because my dad was a major pot smoker anyway. Everyone was super cool to us and it showed me at an early age the power of music and how it transcends things like race. It was just a great concert with a lot of wonderful fans and Rick put on a helluva show.

This was talked about in Tales of the Tour Bus. Prince was killing them on stage and it was hard for Rick to keep up.
Cocaine is a helluva drug

Coldest jacket I've seen in got dayum life....woo pimp on pimpin
Great interviews 🎶🔥🎶
It was the 1980 Dirty Mind and Rick James' 'Garden Of Love' albums...'Super Freak' was 1981 'Street Songs' album when Prince opened for the Rolling Stones and got booed.

The first concert I ever seen was Prince and Rick James in Saginaw,mi.
Rick James hated Prince cuz some shows Prince would out perform Rick James and you dont out perform the headliner.....
LastManStanding4life ruclips.net/video/EEfd5gzY8M8/видео.html
@@mysterion5136 do get the book, he definitely goes in depth about his beef with Prince
Really enjoying the interview after seeing the Animated Prince history.
Product: how much hair dye you need
Morris: yes
Too funny😂😂😂😂
I seem to recall that it was called the "Punk Funk tour. Rick was touring with "Fire it up LP and Prince was marketing "Dirty Mind" LP. Prince was not on the Rick James "Street Songs" tour. By that time he was touring with the Time/Vanity six (1981-1983).
Rick James is a legend no doubt. But I believe a lot of us see Prince on a whole another level of performer
Na
@@THEREALTWISTEDINSANE prince was one of the greats.
AYO MORRIS DAY!!! You a fly azz Brotha!!! That blazer lit AF. DOUBLE SALUTE BROTHA 💐✊🏾✌🏾
Prince opened up in 1979 around Rick’s 1st Tour “Fire It Up” & Prince whooped him badly from what I heard !!!
ce hayes ruclips.net/video/EEfd5gzY8M8/видео.html
Future Society Of Gentlemen Rick James mentioned that, he was pee’d off !!!!
no i didn't i was on that tour. rick's band was super tight
@Williams Twins Please release the caps lock on your keyboard.
btw, would love to hear u ask Morris Day some questions about Morris Day
Just imagine that for a moment... It'd be nice wouldn't it....
Yes
Vlad you adding beef. Rick hated how good Prince was not Prince.
You used the word hated Prince and Morris rejected that notion.
2 talented brothas trying to outdo one another.
2 great men.
No personal hate
nope. Rick HATED PRINCE. Rick's daughter, Ty was interviewed and she talked about how she wasn't allowed to play his music in the house because Rick couldn't stand him....
www.iloveoldschoolmusic.com/rick-james-daughter-says-dad-disliked-prince-so-much-that-he-made-her-do-this/
he talked about it in his autobiography, Glow, as well. somebody who basically, ALLEGEDLY steals your moves when they're headlining your stage show, "steals" your woman (Denise "Vanity" Matthews) out from under you and then you subsequently ALLEGEDLY steal their pre-programmed synthesizer to create your biggest selling album (Street Songs) is NOT someone who you have a "friendly rivalry" with...
Prince opened for Rick James during the promotion of the ‘Prince’ album.
Here's how I've heard it. Rick felt that Prince stole from him. Rick was planning to make a movie that may have been kinda similar to Purple Rain. Somehow its been said that Prince found out and then came out first with his movie Purple Rain.
Then I've heard that Rick was planning to work with Vanity. Somehow Prince came and got her to work with him.
So if all this is true then maybe this can explain Rick's issues with Prince.
Facts this makes way more sense 💯 Rick was the original Prince was the clone
Love MD, remind me of one of my favorite cousins.❤️❤️❤️
I wonder did he ever eat pancakes at Prince's house 😂😂😂
Waffles bro
Prince actually opened for Rick James before Superfreak & the Street Songs album-- but Rick was still on fire at the time
Rick james was so threatened and for good reason.Prince is just different!!

Morris Day!
Just noticed that Morris Day and Tray Dee could totally pass for being brothers!
I’m a Prince & Morris fan, two bad brothers, but I like how Morris is dishing that good, old school dirt, for US! 💯
Prince took Vanity away from Rick
He can sure put on Concert when he came to My Hometown and Performed He let Me and My sister get on stage and we was grooving! The coolest dude ever!
I'm curious is this interview about Morris Day or Prince 🤔
Rick and Prince were very talented and competitive
Rick James the goat it's crazy how much prince was influenced by Rick... He stole alot of style and dance moves from Rick as well as sum ideas too💯
I read that in rick James book how they clashed how prince stole all rick moves and rick poured liquor down prince mouth that book was a good read
It was a show I saw where Rick James was mad because Prince disrespected his mom when she asked for an autograph. And Andre Cymone said Rick was mad because Prince and his band was disrespecting James's band. Keith Richards of the Rolling Stones hated him too.
Prince left the Rolling Stones tour before joining Rick James. He went solo after leaving Rick James. This guy does no research at all, how the hell he get so big, the internet can really make someone famous who knows nothing
So there footage of the Rick James and Prince Tour....they need to release that for public
Somewhere Karceno screaming
"i told you i told you"!!!

I HAD THE CHANCE TO SEE MORRIS DAY, & THE TIME,.. IN CONCERT,.. & THE MOTOR CITY CASINO, OR THE MGM GRAND,.. A LONG TIME, AGO!!!
HE WAS A BLAST, & DIDN'T DISAPPOINT!!!
Vlad - let's get into your story..
MD - Cool.. let's go
Vlad - **prince question after prince question***
Ain't nothing like a Morris Day show..... For those who know, know exactly what I'm talking about.
Him and Jerome will rock the MF house 💯💯💯💯💯💯💯
I'm like the biggest Prince fan out there but I will call it out like it is , there's no doubt in my heart that Prince was inspired by Rick James and in some ways, he did take a few things from Rick and incorporated that into his style.
inspiration is one thing, copying is another. prince stole rick's act, period. he took it to a higher level because he was more talented, but he stole ricks act. rick had every right to hate his guts.
@@jamescaleb9676 stop the nonsense. If rick was great how come he was not as famous as prince.
Not many musicians would've accepted a videographer position in a band...I guess Morris just wanted to be a part of whatever Prince was building cause he knew his time was coming
I just want to see a movie on Rick and Prince on tour together.
Prince got the last word, legs and ALLLLLLLL!!!!
