You should have gone to the Wool Growers for Basque Food. Best Basque Food in Bakersfield. Best in the central valley of California in my opinion. I also hope you tried the peanut butter and jelly pizza at John’s Incredible Pizza. It is one of the most unique pizza’s one could eat. If not, I would highly recommend trying it in the future. Food for thought for the next time you travel north. I’d also recommend traveling north of Bakersfield to Fresno. There a lot of good restaurants up there as well. Per capita it’s more diverse than anywhere else in the state of California. Thai, Lao, Chinese, Japanese, Indian, Ethopian, Italian, Greek, etc. Now I’m going to plan a trip to try that death by chicken the next time I head south to Bakersfield.
Lived in Bakersfield for 8 years (glad I left😂). If you decide to give Bakersfield another chance , some places that I suggest that would fit your guys pallet. Blenderz and Bagels Frugatti’s (Italian ) Smiths Bakery Salty’s BBQ. Locals love this place, quite frankly it’s overrated IMHO. Dewars Icecream is a Bakersfield staple Luigi’s downtown KC steakhouse or Steak and Grapes are local places that people loved. q Wool Growers is THE Basque restaurant in Bakersfield. Moo’ Creamery for Burgers Viceroy for Indian food Max’s Restaurant for some “upscale” Filipino food. However Judging how y’all tolerated Dollar Hits in LA….maybe not.😂 J’s Place was hands down some of the best Soul Food in town if not in CA. I’m not sure if it’s still open after his untimely death. ( I think they may have renamed it but I could be wrong) Also word of advice, Bakersfield is a very Red county( I’m a Conservative myself, but think MAGA) . With that said there are some spots that I was told by locals even that if you aren’t a regular…you’re not welcome. That Basque Restaurant on Rosedale was one of them (The one you guys were at). Bakersfield in the last 10 or so years has become a bit more diverse, however there were still times where I felt me and my family were not welcomed. But for the most part had a positive experience living there
Lol 😂 yeah I feel you. I’m from the east coast, ended up out here due to my husband being in the military. Definitely an interesting place, can’t wait to move 😂 and thanks for the recommendations. Definitely gonna try some of these cause I’m never impressed with the food here and have to cook most of the time.
@@shaynelson5067unfortunately Bakersfield doesn’t have a very diverse pallet when it comes to food . There are a lot of burger joints though 🤷🏽♂️. At least you’re close proximity to LA😂.
I highly recommend Uricchio's Trattoria and Frugatti's. Not since I lived in San Francisco did I have Italian food that damn good. Big portions too. Lengthwise is a local brewing company that also has few restaurants here, I HIGHLY recommend their Zeus Imperial Ale (10% ABV). Even if you're not a beer guy it's still worth it for the food (try the Stinky Burger and Stinky Fries). If you want good and authentic Mexican, try Los Molcajetes. Bakersfield unfortunately has a quantity over quality problem when it comes to Mexican food but the ones that are good are REAL good. For Chinese, the best I've had here is Bill Lee's Bamboo Chopsticks.
You guys have so much fun. That's cool man. Going back to LA to visit my family for a week so I'm looking forward to all the great food I've been missing since I've been out here in Arkansas.
I’m glad you did this in the daytime. Bakersfield has a notorious history of being a sundown town…Taft and Oildale especially. And man, it looks like a meth bomb exploded when I stop for gas going up to Fresno recently.
Dude! I live near Bakersfield and there are WAY better places to eat than John's incredible pizza. Chicago pizza with a twist ( Tikka masala pizza 💣). The Blvd is like a Dave n busters. There's Luigi's plus some really bomb Mexican spots. Definitely need to do another/real food tour of Bakersfield.😊
Love your videos! You where differently at the wrong Basque restaurant! You need to go to Pyrenees Cafe, food is delicious! Your waiter called is a 3 course meal, but it's actually called "the set up" and then the main entrée is brought out. Pickle tongue, is better eaten on a slice of french bread with salsa on top. The french bread is local and it smells amazing when u walk in and it's called me Pyrenees Bakery and it's a block over from the restaurant. Luigi's is around the corner from the bakery, also delicious! Saturday's their steak sandwiches are amazing! But, their butterfinger pie is the Best! For a different kind of pizza, keep driving on the 99 north to Delano, CA and find L&R's pizza and order the Chile Verde Pizza! It's a whole meal! Delicious 😋
Bro! You missed out on champs BBQ. It's off of 7th standard road (technically it's airport drive) all of their food is good. Their pulled pork sandwich is legit or as you would say, "certified!" Also, salty's is good too. I'm pretty sure guy fierri ate there.
French and European food is hard for me to acquire a taste for it. I've tried it a few times before and it sucks for my taste buds. I like my food warm and tasty.😋
