Ritchie Blackmore Cal Jam 1974
That’s the Ritchie Blackmore California Jam guitar right there!
yep my thoughts as well!
The guitar sounds remarkably good in the bridge position especially in the ending solo. Major props to Michael for really demonstrating what this guitar is capable of.
Sweet 73 guys, that's super clean! Sounds killer too! Early 70s Fenders are my all-time faves! 🕺🤘😎🤘
Me too and this guitar was popular on 1974 the infamous California jam Deep purple Ritchie Blackmore killer concert and many people confuse this guitar with the cream stratocaster CBS ( Ritchie destroyed the camera with that guitar not the natural finish) and maybe the Blackmore tones get banned 🚫 here because this guy never play a Purple riff ( Burn deep purple era ).
Love those giant headstocks. Everything was bigger in the 70's
Love me a good 70s guitar! Some people hate them but I love how goofy they are and I love how they're different. Beautiful playing by the brilliant Lemmo!
Yes..cant argue with it...Gilmour loved his didn't he.
The tone at around 5:40 is very nice
Stunning.
Yo looks like the guitar Mark from Khruangbin plays so cool!
I have a reissue of this exact guitar and I love it to death ! So dynamic ! Always in tune .
Looks and sounds really nice. Mr. Lemmo's playing is top notch is always.
*sits down on the couch repeating what he just told us in the backroom as if it was a month ago but it was actuallt just 4 minutes ago. Love you Lemmo!!
Mike... Our Pleasure ! Thanks.
That middle pickup song sounded great!
Sounds amazing. Great job Mike!
A lot of classic rock was written and recorded using these Strats.
(:
definitely hear that
Name 10 songs written by shit strats?
@@frunk6006
Just about everything Blackmore did after In Rock.
Ed King, 73 Strat.
Jimmy Page, 71 Olympia White Strat.
LOL
Little feet’s Lowell George had one of those ! Don’t tell me he sounded bad …
@@frunk6006
Why don't you run along now, go to your room and listen to your shitty K-pop.
Can someone tell me where the very first riff of the demo come from ?
Love the Big Head Strats.
I'm just a beginner after 20 yrs, love seeing you playing and showing details about the different guitars. Love #Straturdays
Wow… the bridge position sounds killer.
That's some righteous playing there brother! Awesome Strat as well
Straturday in the park, I think it was the 4th of July. LOL 😂 Great demo Michael.
When Lemmo plays, every day’s the 4th of July!
the piece of music here 5:05 loves it lemmo!
Man lemmo can play
Thats one fine guitar
Not to date myself, but I cheched out that same guitar in my favorite gutar shop in Endicott N.Y.
Yep that was 1973!!
Did not buy it, no money, no job!
what's the first song?
Can someone help me out with what the names of the songs he played were?
Sooooo clean! Ironically, it’s a real vintage that could pass for a reissue….😉
The reissues are better. When I got my natural hardtail Strat new in ‘74, I had to try about ten of them (in different finishes, some hardtails, some with tremolos) before I found one that was adequate. I got an Ibanez Roadster in ‘79 because I couldn’t find a decent Strat, and ‘60s ones were out of my price range by then.
@@jfinester
I have an original one of these, the same as this one as in its not painted either, its wooden grain is really beautiful imho. I have not played a reissue so I dont know if they are better, but I do know that I really love my one. It's 50 years old now and plays beautifully.
I would never sell it but I do wonder how much it would cost now, does anyone know what one would fetch today?
3:00 what song is it please
I notice that Lemmo's right hand picking technique is getting more fluid. Nice!
Man, that thing has a ton of character! Still hoping for that turquoise Strat that Norm brought back from Texas, though…has it already sold?
My was purchased new 73 cream color pickups Flat . Frets jumbo Flat Tops . Never seen another ?
I was lucky enough to buy one of these (second hand obviously) in 91, its now 50 years old and plays and sounds beautiful. How much is the reissue? I don't even know how much my one is worth,, does anyone know? Anyway, that's purely academic because I would never sell it. Peace from Ireland to you all x
Another great Lemmo-Demo...
Anyone know the name of the last song? It’s on the tip of my tongue but I can’t remember
Not to mention the micro-tilt adjustment that you could use to adjust the pitch of the neck.
That was actually a great idea that’s still in use today on the American Pro.
That was a good idea poorly executed by Fender in the ‘70s.
What is that killer solo playing at around 8m 40 sec mark?
I like how people now say 70s strats are so desirable... back in the 80s, everyone saw 70s strats as absolute crap...
I don’t get it either. I bought a Strat new in ‘74 (natural, maple fingerboard, hardtail, white pickguard)-not a very good one. Most of the Fenders from that era were mediocre at best, some were just plain awful, now they’re considered “vintage” and they go for silly money nowadays. I’d take a new Fender, or a G&L, over a ‘70s one any day of the week.
@@jfinester certainly not like my 64!
@@jfinester then my 73 is pretty special, it eats custom shops and reissues for lunch . Fender couldn't even touch it on their best day for the last 40 years at least . Playing a new one feels like an insult compared to mine . Must have got the best one out of the whole 70s.
@@arfboucher3855
Same here, I have the exact same model as the one in this video, an original 73 and it is a fantastic guitar, it's far superior to ANYTHING Fender are doing these days and I would never part with it. Peace from Ireland to you and yours mo chara.
Woob hooooob !!!
If I owned that guitar, I would burn the Louisville Slugger logo onto the body somewhere. Love that natural (baseball bat) look! Sounds good too... really liked the neck pickup.
I don’t know why people naysay the 70’s Strats. I love them! I had one of the Mexican 70’s reissues that I regrettably sold. However, even for a more affordable guitar it was one of my favorites. I can only imagine what an authentic 70’s Strat feels like.
They feel great. I had a ‘79, and my friend, and Bandmate had a ‘73, wish I’d never sold mine. Speaking of Mexican Strats, my ‘013 Standard is my all time favorite, they really know what they’re doing down in Ensenada!
their QC were hit or miss past 74 so people just shit on them😂
They sometimes cut the neck pockets too big on the three bolts (three bolts are fine if the pocket it good). If you get a good one they’re great, just more hit and miss back then
Like others said before QC all over the place, often gummy feeling finish, less quality heavy wood sometimes hidden with multiple pieces under the finish, they faked even the grain in sunbursts, sometimes weird drilled holes, less quality wire and sloppy wiring, "dead" feeling/sounding etc. also the 3 point neck bolt sytem where poorly implemented (G&L fixed that original idea from Leo later on their models).
Some say oftrn more lemon models where also selected for export. The four I played where really not nice, one Jazzmaster was tho. Back then, often the Jazzmaster cases where in Germany put aside and sold as regular Strat cases from dealers for extra $.
I would love to own an original Starcaster but..the stories I read..no way. I don't doubt there exist good CBS instruments but if, people will not sell them..
I have this exact model, its an original 1973 and at 50 years old it still plays beautifully. Any guitarist that's played it has said the same, I can't speak for anyone else but I absolutely love the thing. The big headstock is a thing of beauty and the tone and playability is fantastic! Maybe I got lucky? I don't know hiw much it would cost these days but I would never even dream of parting with it.
Peace and love from Ireland to you all x
Jen picking on Michael from yesterday, classic. Lol
Lovely playing on that middle pickup. The ‘74 I had 40 years ago was a dog. Not a good guitar. Going to view a ‘73 Blonde maple tomorrow- I hope it’s a nice one !
What's he playing from 3 minutes to 5 minutes?
It’s familiar but don’t know either
Im convinced he makes stuff up on the spot and or has his own riffs
he's noodling.
@@denniskramer9657 yep and so he does not get copyright claims
Deep bevels as well!
Hey Mike...cool playing dude!!
anybody recognize what Lemmo's playing on the bridge? ive definitely heard it before but i cant pin it down?
LEMMO!!!!
What is the amp you are using?
The early 70's Strats are lighter in weight than the later 70's . Nice Strat .
Not my 73, weighs a ton, sounds like dookie.
@@guitarzan2626 The early 70's Strats are usually lighter than the later 70's ones but I guess sometimes weight is a good thing as the tone of the guitar has much more sustain .
@@-Atmos1 the one I had was all original and was weak. It really stunk. I'm sure some of them are great but mine was not.
Your average Toyota is lighter than a late ‘70s Strat! They generate their own gravitational field. (the Strats, not the Toyotas.)
@@jfinester A slab of concrete would also be lighter than a late 70's Strat . However , Telecaster Thinlines are very light & sound great . Good comment , you made me laugh !!
Generally a fan of 50's era Strats, but this one, from the year of my birth, is an exception. Or would be, if I wasn't poor 😂
Great demo. The end of the hippie era ;)
I agree-good playing from Mike Lemmo-but I grew up in San Francisco, and from my point of view, the hippie era was essentially over by 1970.
Nice
Damn, that second piece you played is tasty as hell.
Now this is a way to end a week! Love a good 70s Strat! Kind of reminds me of the Strat Paul Simon used in the Simon and Garfunkel show in Central Park! However! Gotta do a Maton!
Too much Ikea vibe around this one😜
Sure sounds like a Strat alright!
How much?
Awesome playing as usual Lemmo ! LETS GO BRANDON !
Brandon is at your Mom’s, again…
who is the artist?
Wish he would play just a lil longer 😮💨
It looks like every crappy kitchen table my grandparents ever owned. Sounds amazing though
Nice Guitar. Lets go brandon
keep politics outta rock and roll

@@skytheguy0438 are you one of the 80 mil?
@@HarryBarry97 nope
I had a 1974 sunburst Hardtail Strat (I love hardtails) that had the most horrible neck I've ever felt on an electric guitar. That thing was like a baseball bat (and not in a good way, like an early Les Paul or early Tele) and was extremely uncomfortable to play. Other than the neck, I loved that Strat. On the other hand, I have a late '90s natural, ash American Standard Strat with the skinniest neck I've ever felt on a guitar. It's so skinny, it gives me hand cramps within the first few minutes when I play it. Other than the neck, I love that Strat. LOL
I had a white with black guard 76, it had a 3 bolt neck I grew to hate it I like to palm mute and would accidently turn it down when playing it. The Kenny Wayne Shepard signature Stratocaster has a left handed volume pot on it so you don't accidently turn them down when palm muting
@@pissonguitarcenter8204 That's cool about the left handed volume pot. Great channel name too btw, 'Piss on Guitar Center' 😄
I guess there's no perfect neck for you...
@@jaycatanzaro2743 Those are actually the only two necks I haven't been able to get along with. My favorite necks so far are Fender Custom Shop Strat necks (they're downright amazing) and Gretsch necks (especially the Falcon models).
@@rylieriley try playing a Telecaster Custom I had a Mexico made 2004 that I miss very much
Sweet Home Alabama was recorded with a 73 Strat. Just sayin…
That amp Probably sounds really good in person but every time you play on that amp it doesn't sound right on the video
Leave the cover on it...
CBS Noisemaker.
Great guitar but the fuckin playing was fuckin awesome
Second
Let's go Brandon
you could have picked up a 70s strat for CHEAP at a pawn shop before the internet.
First
I bought a used 1973 Fender Strat about 20 years ago. It was exactly like this, but with a bit more wear. These are horrible guitars compared to 1960s Strats, or even to the 1980s Japanese guitars. I would advise staying away from this one. It probably weighs a ton. This one is clean, but I bet it is not anything to compare to other better years. Keep in mind that Lemmo is playing this--you will play like this too! (Ha-ha-ha)
I agree!
i bought a 1973 strat just like that it didnt come with an ashtray the neck would move cause it was a 3 bolt and in 6 months it needed a fret job and i didnt play the guitar that much it was a piece of junk
Ah yes. The garbage years.
You know people have too much money to waste, when they're paying up the wazoo for Fenders of this era.
Bring on the economic collapse...
1968 to 1974 Telecaster are identical...exactly the same specs...I own a 72 and 74.
Jazzmasters were great in the 1970s...I own a 1979.
Strats? You either love em or hate em from this era. I personally am in the market for a 1972, but I can't find one I like.
The 73 strat i had was heavy and dead sounding, in natural finish like this one, they suck. Dont sink money into these.
I had an all original 73 in natural finish and it was heavy and the pickups were weak. It in a nutshell sucked.
Please get a good haircut.
Looks like a partscaster 🤮
Only a week......next time stay for a while longer..... I'm sure you won't be missed.......
