    Just earlier today I ordered a 2020 MacBook Air with M1, 8GB Ram, & 512 SSD. Was able to get the "educational" discount because we homeschool our son. Also came with a free $150 Apple gift card. That was nice! Thanks for all your "Tech Talks" David. They have been very helpful to me.

      Not trying to be a downer but hurry up and cancel and upgrade to 16GB of Ram and lower the storage. 16 is the absolute min you should get these days and you can get a external hard drive with a ton of storage for next to nothing. Trust me this will future proof you for years and you won’t regret it. Congrats either way though. I researched for years before getting mine a year ago and love it.

    Perfect timing. I'm planning on replacing my 2013 iMac with the Mac mini, a new suggested monitor, but keeping my 2013 Mac keyboard, and old Logitech mouse, which work perfectly fine for me. Very grateful for all your free help since 2013. I owe you a paid session or two for when I get the new Mac mini.

    Hi David, I had a lot of Mac computers but my latest one has been a MacAir with an M1 chip with only 8 gigs! I absolutely love it. My favourite part is the tappered and slik design. It is very fast and never had an issue with it whatsoever. And yes I do videos as well. For About $1100 Canadian, you can't beat it! Thanks for the video. Great work!

    hi and thanks for all the videos you have made over the years. My early 2015 MacBook Pro passed peacefully away in January. I prefer the extra oomph we get from the pro so bought a 14" 512Gb and 16G ram.. It is very smooth and fast, although I don't do anything very demanding I do like the extra power. The most noticeable thing to my 80 yr old eyes is the screen quality. Much better than the old MacBook.

    I upgraded my 2017 i5 Intel Mac Mini to the M1 Mini when it came out because the Intel Mini was an utter slug because of the Intel Graphics. I do photography and upsizing resolution in Pixelmator Pro went from about 3 minutes to 10-15 seconds. Those Intel graphics were slower than the Raedion graphics on my 2011 Mini! The M1 was a huge leap while the M2 and M3 are more like the incremental improvements we have seen from Intel over the years. I’ll probably buy a 13 inch Air because portability is my priority. The M1 is still more than good enough for general use, although I will consider the M3 just to have the latest. Finally, COSTCO is here in Australia and has the best Apple prices I’ve seen here. Good tip re screen damage. I’d use tape for sure.

    Hi David,
    I still have my 10 year old 27" iMac running Mojave (10.14.6). I used to get the spinning rainbow wheel but when I plugged in a Samsung SSD via the USB socket., cloned the old hard drive, copied it to the SSD and selected the Samsung as the startup drive it turbocharged the Mac back to its original speed and it is still running as fast as it was when I first got it. Does everything I ask it to do. Maybe a Mac Mini will be needed eventually - could I use the iMac purely as a monitor in the future. Great video by the way - clear and concise - like all your videos, David!

    Hi David. A few months ago, wanting to buy a new 27" iMac and finding they stopped making it, I got the Mac Studio. It's good; I find the 2TB SSD too small, but couldn't stomach what Apple was charging for the larger one. And of course, it's not upgradeable.
    As far as monitors, I went for the Dell S2722DZ, largely because it has a pivot and you can put it into Page position. It got great reviews, but I am seriously disappointed.
    (1) The speakers are REALLY WEAK and I had to use an external pair of speakers. (2) The video camera is FUZZY and makes you look TOO FAR AWAY on Zoom. I would not recommend it to anyone, although on paper it looks great in features, price, and specs.

    I'm in Australia and Costco is a terrible place to buy computers especially Macs. I don't know why they bother. Bad price, poor choice, badly presented. I often wonder as I pass them at who buys them, but then I look at most of the Costco customers and am not filled with admiration.
    Why Apple has virtually killed off one of their best product lines, the iMacs, is a puzzle.
    I bought the 2021 Macbook Pro M1 Pro, as the obvious best value/tech and it is an amazing computer but it has its faults (not many) and I would have much rather had a full desktop.
    As a long term Apple customer (4 decades) my observation is Apple releases good products once a decade. You have go be lucky to need a new computer when they show up. The rest of the time Apple's products are bad value and often (deliberately IMO) horrifically flawed.
    Out of all this advice. There is not much difference between the M1/M2 models. Whatever you do, do not buy less than 16gb RAM, or 512gb SSD. I strongly advise to get more RAM because it is shared between the CPU and GPU. Although I have a 16gb RAM, 512gb SSD model it frequently starts swapping memory to the SSD which can slow things down and is worrying for the longevity of the SSD.

    • @michaeltourigian8733
      @michaeltourigian8733 Год назад

      I purchased a Mac Mini with a M1 chip a year ago and It works great should I get a new Mac Mini with a M2 chip. Would it make a big difference? I also purchased a Mac Book Pro for my grandson going to college M2 chip with 16 GB memory and 512 GB SSD for 1,864 at Best Buy I got 50 dollars off for being a total teck member and you get 2 years of apple care for free.

    • @peterbreis5407
      @peterbreis5407 Год назад

      @@michaeltourigian8733 The M2 does not make a lot of difference. Apple seems to have just upclocked the chip making it hotter, and it reduced the SSD chip on the basic models to one instead of two making it half the speed. Basically you are paying quite a bit more for a very slight CPU speed increase.
      The Macbook Pro M1 Pro seems to me to be the best bang for the bucks at the moment.
      In Australia we have better consumer protection. We get 3 years warranty. Apple Care has some additional benefits of support. IF you can get Apple to give you sensible info. I have not succeeded in the past several years, and have concluded i am on my own devices.
      One piece of advice on the M chips I can give is that due to the CPU sharing memory with the GPU and it being possible to have several displays attached, there can be quirks and slowdowns on displays due to inadequate memory. I highly recommend getting more RAM even though Apple is way overcharging for it. It will reduce paging to the unupgradeable SSD for a start. My biggest concern with the M series is how everything can fail due to just one component failing because Apple makes everything unupgradeable. The size of the internal SSD is not such a problem. I can see no reason to go beyond the basic 512Gb as you can easily attach external SSDs, which are replaceable and are much cheaper than Apple's.

    There's a lot to agree with in this vid. 👍
    In 2017 I bought, a Retina 4K 21" 3.4 GHz i5 with Radeon Pro 560 4 GB graphics & 16gb memory which I later upgraded to 32GB.
    The room it's in is multi-purpose, so it fit the bill of having a small footprint & minimalist.
    All went well until my eyesight took a MASSIVE hit about a year ago & struggled with the fitted screen.
    I'm in my 70s so in 2022 I decided to splurge on an M1 Max Mac Studio & Studio Display.
    Again, you are right, the Studio Display cost a lot & wasn't the godsend that I'd hoped it would be.
    I've tweaked the display settings using tips from your recent vid for the visually impaired & it's way better.
    Thank you so much for your assistance, you're a champion. 👍

    Love all the information you have given over the years…my “go to guy” thank you. I’m now in the market for a new iPad …I’m an artist and Apple Pencil my drawing tool.
    , I don’t mind waiting even if it’s up to a year to see new improvements. What news if any do you have for me.
