Lyrics:
Baby's into running around
Hanging with the crowd
Putting your business in the street
Talking out loud
Saying you bought her this and that
And how much you done spent
I swear she must believe it's all heaven sent
Hey boy you better bring the chick around
To the sad, sad truth the dirty lowdown
Taught her how to talk like that
(Ooh I wonder, wonder, wonder, wonder who)
Gave her that big idea
Nothin' you can't handle
Nothin' you ain't got
Put your money on the table
And drive it off the lot
Turn on that old love light
And turn a "maybe" to a "yes"
Same old schoolboy game got you into this mess
Hey son, better get back on to town
Face the sad old truth, the dirty lowdown
Put those ideas in your head
(Ooh I wonder, wonder, wonder, wonder who)
Yeah
Come on back down, little son
Dig the low, low, low, low, lowdown!
You ain't got to be so bad, got to be so cold
This dog eat dog existence sure is getting old
Got to have a Jones for this
Jones for that
This runnin' with the Joneses, boy, just ain't where it's at, no, no
You gonna come back around
To the sad, sad truth, the dirty lowdown
Got you thinking like that, boy
(Ooh I wonder, wonder, wonder, wonder who)
I wonder, wonder, wonder, wonder who
Said I wonder, wonder, wonder, I wonder who
Oh, look out for that lowdown (ohh, I wonder, wonder, wonder, wonder who)
That dirty, dirty, dirty, dirty lowdown
Ooh I wonder, wonder, wonder, wonder who
Ooh I wonder, wonder, wonder, wonder who
Got you thinkin' like that
Got you thinkin' just like that
(Ooh I wonder, wonder, wonder, wonder who)
Lookin' that girl in the face is so sad
I'm ashamed of you
I wonder, wonder, wonder, wonder who

Boz, Paich, Porcaro brothers, Carolyn Willis, Les Dudek…all-star band right there
This song never gets old. A certified timeless classic. Thank you, Boz Scaggs.
Jeff Porcaro was a pure beast on the drums, RIP.
Absolutely…
🙏
Agree!!
Just couldn't have said it better!!!
Just the Way he performed on that Track 🎵 👣 👣 👣 🎶
IMPECCABLE!!!
Definitely
One of the greatest songs of all time. It sounds fresh even after 47 years! This was the first album I bought in college in 1976. The whole album is a masterpiece.
Seriously! My fav karaoke song, when I sing it people really take notice.
No it's not! "Of all time".
Think you are being a bit of a silly billy @dancrawley6582.
Silk Degrees!
It's a shame that Boz's guitar skills aren't more widely appreciated. He's an amazing guitarist.
Hmm 😊
Boz has always been generous giving his band members and back up singers their spotlight in all his concerts. A sheer gentleman.
Exactly my dear great point out
It's true¡¡¡
I was 19 when this song came out. I thought that voice belonged to some soulful black man. But this guy Boz wasnt black, even though he sang like that. I'm 63 now. Still love Boz!!!
Same here..thought he was black. Love me some Box Scaggs at 72.
Same here. But he was white. I found out he was Boz. Bought the 45 and he became my favorite since the 70’s. I’m 71 now and and listening to him now.
I just had the same exact conversation with my husband tonight 😂!!!!!
An overnight success was Boz.. been at it since '65. I was 12 when this made the UK Charts in '76! .. knew he was a white guy, as he was on 'Top Of The Pops' in the UK.. absolutely brilliant performer and back-up... forgot to add Mario Biondi and Chaka Khan do a reasonable attempt t the tune.. ruclips.net/video/q09gKzfrSr8/видео.html
Boz (also) fooled me as a young Black Kid. I almost started a Civil Rights Riot in our 2nd-3rd Grade Classroom over it:):):) Prior to Lowdown, couldn't name a similar Pop Artist or Song similar,...I can't. It even won an R&B Grammy for best R&B Song. But Michael McDonald didn't get that same chance to fool me as a yute. Saw him on "What's Happening" first:):)
Jeff Porcaro so young when he played drums for Boz Scaggs and yet he was already a master.
June 8, 2024
Happy Birthday, sir!
80 yrs old today and still as relevant as ever. I am lucky to be alive in your lifetime. Thank you for the music.
Jeff Porcaro is killing it...damn!! What a grooving drummer gone way too soon.
He really was amazing.
You know the drummer is something special when you can't help but focus on his part in a great song.
Brilliant track, great drumming by the then young multi talented Jeff Porcaro who would have reached 70 years old today RIP
Never Get Tired of Listening to This One Masterpiece, Work of Art by Paich, Porcaro & Scaggs!❤🎉😊
The blackest, whitest Dude I know---the koolest cool---The Boz! Love The Boz and always will---The Dirty Lowdown!!!
The name of a british punk rocker and the voice of a soulful black man
Why isn't Boz Scaggs more of an icon? Amazing song writer, musician and such a voice.
he is in certain circles. just only had 3-4 years of high visibility. too funky and jazzy for some. i love his music myself.
Guessing, too Soulful (voice) for pop and not R&B enough for Soul. But he did win an R&B Grammy back-n-the-day for LowDown. His hits after that were more pop than (LowDown) Soul. That and he refused to have LowDown on the "Saturday Night Fever" Soundtrack. He allowed it on some other movie that didn't make a $.05:) If he'd allowed LD to be on Saturday Night Fever, would he be more revered, probably by others but not by me. And I love the movie and soundtrack.
@@markjackson6134 That other movie was "Looking for Mr. Goodbar." Neither Boz nor his people thought a movie about some disco dancer would have any impact. Oops.
I think taking a long hiatus for most of the '80s also didn't help.
@@BingBangByedidn't that movie have rape or murder in it? Oh ya..the girl stabbing the guy or him stabbing her
I have been loving this song for 45 years. It never gets old, I get the same chills every time, and it has got to be one of THE finest rock songs ever. RIP Jeff, you are missed.
Jeff Porcaro, the best drummer ever! Written on the day his father, Joe, passed away. RIP Jeff, Joe and Mike
And Steve Porcaro too.
@@beverlymcnamara9483 has he died??
@@audreydakin8130 Still alive and kickin'
Don’t forget Jeff’s son Miles . That is kinda fing important.
YES, what a Talented family. God speed Steve.
Still groovin to this masterpiece in 2024. Boz is boss!❤
Great Band, the Porcaro Brothers and the incomparable Les Dudek on lead guitar!
This is Toto with Boz Scaggs singing. Excellent
Great sense of humor. I have loved boz for over 40 years and it never gets old.
The first time I heard this was in 1976 in 8th grade. My homeroom teacher was a huge fan of this album amd used to play ot in the classroom during "open period". I loved it then and love it today. Love me some Boz!!
@@nigelcorney1915 exactly my dear
@Amy Adams, Ahh homeroom. Way off topic of music, but I had a "homeroom" (I forgot about that term lol), she was chemistry teacher and she thought it was funny to play "Neutron Dance" by the Pointer Sisters. Now, back to our regularly schedule music of Boz Scaggs. The low low low lowww DOWN.
the drummer his doing his business on this song!
That's the late great Jeff Porcaro!
Saw the man for first time in 1977 at the University of Southern Mississippi! Blew me away then, still doing it today! His birthday is on June 8, ( I believe) so Happy Birthday Boz! You still can roll with the best of them!!!
Im in awww. I just adore this music. I remember hearing it in the 70's but I thought the singer was African American. I just recently heard it again on the radio and it took me back to my childhood. I give much thanks and appreciation to Mr. Boz Scaggs for bringing such a timeless classic to us to enjoy. I hope he is doing well. Every time I play this master piece I have to keep repeat it over and over again.
One of the best live musicians. Great choir with three pretty women. A unique orchestra. Such wonderful music does not exist anymore today. I'm proud, I was still able to experience it!
Pop music today is nowhere as good as this!!! Real music played by real musicians!! 2020....You’ve driven me into the arms of the 70’s!!!
Boz. The epitome of cool 47 years ago. I would still go see him tour now in his 80s. The dirty dirty lowdown...🎙️🎤🎶🎶
Saw him in Wichita KS last month. He’s almost 80 and still got it. He’s so gracious and humble when showcasing his band members. The Orpheum Theater was jammed with people mostly over 50 years old. Best show I’ve ever seen!
Jeff Porcaro , Michael and Steve Porcaro are in the video , Lukather played with Boz Scaggs too and Dave Paich wrote that song ...
Got them their album deal
I was used to getting in the truck with my dad. We’d always work long days when I’d join him. But he’d always treat me to lunch. One day a hopped in, and he was playing Boz. I asked him what it was. He told me. I told him I didn’t like it. So he changed it to KNBR680 Bay Area. I never forgot that sound and that moment my father and I shared. A son telling his dad he didn’t understand. I come back to all the music my father liked now that he’s gone. I feel like I’m there with him now.❤
Beautiful blessed memories. Make me tear up 🕊️
I was, and still am, a HUGE Boz fan. I used to listen to his albums over, and over, and over. Just couldn't get enough. Just got a reminder about his music , so decided to take a trip down memory lane here tonight. I STILL love this guy!!
Dirty Lowdown! I love that song! The rythmn, the beat! Everything about this song is right on! Boz Scaggs has a momentous, phenomenol and excitement style of his song. This song added a whole new meaning to the disco era of the 70s and is still in sync with the music of today. It was the bomb!!
I never thought he was recognized enough, great voice, great musicians - all of them! ❤
I’m 70 and agree with everything you wrote !! Still great great listening to him at any age!!😊
Not many songs deserve to be called “timeless”, but this is definitely one of them. Could have been made yesterday-first time I heard it I thought it WAS made yesterday…
Playing in bands during this era was special. Beautiful music.
Boz, we love you - you didn't only define an era, you transcended it completely! You are absolutely amazing....thank you!
Jeff's hi hat is incomparable...!!
Love seeing the (self-depracating) humor at the beginning of this video!
I was Today old (57) when I realized this was not a Black man responsible for this song. Holy shit, I'm floored.
Lowdown won the Grammy for Best R&B Song. The song was written by David Paich of Toto. Some Toto members were also involved in the production of the song.
This cool cat has soul and funk! Boz Scaggs! Love the backup singers too!
This is so good, it hurts.
And mad props to the backup singers in those evening gowns.
So classy back in the day.
They on the recording
BOZ is the coolest man on two feet , singing street slang before it was so hip to do. I wonder who taught him how to talk like that yeah I wonder wonder wonder whoooooo !!!!!!
Street slang or "Black english" was always hip...and was on records before Boz.
@Paul Brownsville, Brooklyn here. Black style and vernacular is always copied. I have nothing to prove. Study history and take a look around.
The word is called "cooptation". Or in other words..."Columbus-ing."
@Paul So Black jazz artists never came to Greenwich Village and L.E.S? Black poets and writers like Leroi Jones who later became Amiri Baraka, never performed and hung out in those places, and impacted those areas with their styles. Being 'hip' was and still is infected by Blackness.
@Paul So you speak the way you speak by osmosis? No cultural influences impacted you whatsoever? It just sorta..."happened".
The Porcaro Brothers! RIP Jeff. RiIP Mike. Love Steve on the keyboard
R.I.P. Jeff Porcaro 🥁
I loved Boz Scaggs since the early 70s when he his music was more blues based. Low-Down is still my favorite song from his late 70s period. This is an incredible performance of Boz and I believe for the most part the band Toto with Les Dudek on guitar. I wish that their was a full video of this concert available of Boz and this band.
Thanks for identifying Les Dudek! I’ve been wondering for a long time who played the guitar solo!
Jeff in this live was only 25 years old... And it already had a fanyistic groove. dear jeff rip 🙏❤
RIP Jeff Porcaro. The master studio drummer
I'm on a learning curve
I thought boz scaggs was black
Unusual voice and delivery
I like it I like it a lot !
The delightful Yankee/Aussie Vanetta Fields on backing vocals in the middle. One of the best & most respected backing vocalist in the business. Is adored in Australia & has sung backing vocals for everyone that is anyone for many years.
Such a memorable song . Where did all the beautiful music go ? Please bring it back , God❤🙏🏼
The rotten and corrupt music industry won't ever allow music of this caliber become mainstream ever again!
May 2021 this performance still gives me chills, we're so blessed to have this technology.

this is my first time watching this and i got goosebumps the moment i heard the drums. i knew instantly that it was jeff porcaro playing. his brothers mike and steve - on bass and keybords respectively - were damn great. rip jeff and mike, god bless steve.
Jeff Porcaro.... Les Dudek.... Boz.... these were great times!!!
Damn. Damn. I wonder if today’s music world would have a place for Boz Scaggs? I wonder. This is GOLD!!
This song makes me want to experience this era for myself. I can imagine the clubs back then 😢😩
Yesss me too i would love to just beam myself back to 1970s and experience the clubs the music the clothes even the drugs back then were better lol everything
I was hitting clubs on Long Island NY back in the mid to late 70’s. Silk Degrees was the background music to my nights back then. Those were phenomenal times. The music of Boz is timeless. The next album was Down Two Then Left and had more great dance songs on it. I miss those times. A different word back then for sure.
What a badass fat groove Jeff lays down with the bass player starting at 0:57 Miss you Jeff....
The Bass Player is his Brother Mike!
That bass is so funky tho 🔥
It was originally David Hungate, late of Toto.
I remember working at the Brown Palace Hotel in Denver. I rode in the elevator with Boz. I was with a friend of mine and we had just come from delivering him flowers from me. I didn't want to bother Boz. (What are the odds!)Went and seen him at "Red Rocks" that night. What a concert he put on. God Bless😇🙏❤️
Happy Birthday to the Master. Listened to his music my whole adult life.
I have watched a different version of this video a hundred times. This version is amazing. The beginning is so funny but silly. I just love Boz..
Jeff was a gift on Drum kit.
This is an incredibly fantastic clip of Boz and his masterpiece.
Anyone else get the chills when it first cuts to Jeff? I must have watched this version 30 times for that intro alone.
Well said. Absolutely. Avant Music has a little seen video of Larry Carlton, with Jeff Porcaro in the band, live recording it appears. Do check it out, ace playing.
@@karljennings5910 thank you! I absolutely will
I searched RUclips for Sony and Cher tv show and sure enough there is a young Jeff Porcaro playing drums!
Yes
Absolutely! Jeff in this video is why I started drumming!
Boz and Jeff ! What a grooving team ! Thanks guys.
I’m late to the party .... new fan here. This music is pure joy. I’m enjoying these masterpieces in August 2020.
Great smile Carolyn 😉
Same story here... Love this music so much...
I was a kid in the 70's and remember this song, the great music from then never gets old and still sounds great!!!
OK, if you're new "To This Here Game" here's others to peep:
Boz Scaggs, JoJo; ToTo, Georgy Porgy, 99, and I Won't Hold You Back; Doobies, Real Love, What A Fool Believes, and It Keeps You Running; Bruce Hornsby, The Way It Is; Christopher Cross, Ride Like the Wind; Steely Dan, Peg; Eagles, One of These Nights. If you like those I can recommend others.
@@markjackson6134 that's a great selection and many of my favs! I would have recommended these as well. If you want to get some real great Jeff grooves, there's also Michael McDonald "I keep forgetting"....
This drum part. So simple yet so addictive.
Jeff Porcaro at his absolute best!
its not simple at all.. he makes it sound simple.. because he's a machine
He is the best. Silk degrees was awesome. Not a bad sing on it
Love this live version. So great.
Welp I just learned something new today lol he's so soulful
SENSATIONAL AWESOME HEAVENLY BEAUTIFUL AMAZING!!!!!
When I was a youngster thought this was a soul brother but he has our black 👸🏽on the background for that pure soul 💪🏾can you dig it
I love this video. When he comes out and moves like Mick. He sure has those Mick Jagger moves. Love him❤.
Always thought a black man sang this 😂 his voice is cool AF
I was 8 years old on the way to the airport in the car with my dad who I hadn't seen in 2 years because he moved to California. This song was on the radio, and I have loved it ever since. Miss you daddy 1938-1991💔
Love this song, takes me back to '78, the good old days. Great band, the hook sticks with you, great melody.
I was 23 when I first heard this song..Now I'm 70 and still love it !!! 🎵🎶
Boz, Jeff - Mike - Steve - The Porcaros..and...and...Les Dudek on guitar. But...my favorite of all time - Jeff Porcaro. I'm so sorry I never saw him live....
Wow those backing singers can sway,,
Once upon a time there was music in this world 🌎
omg 1977 this hit will never die, Boz!
Boy, does this bring back memories and they seem so fresh! Amazing time in our history. Never again will people see this or relate and understand exactly how fantastic life was back then.... actual musical talent that is not repeated and don't seem to be ever going to be! Greatest time EVER to be in your twenties and single, the night life was something people can't comprehend or ever experience, so sad....I count myself extremely lucky to live in this time period because it's absolutely NEVER GOING TO HAPPEN AGAIN, NOTHING REMOTELY CLOSE.
This is how you play the drums, it never gets tiring.Amazing

Oh that smooth like butter voice Boz has !!!
Still listening in 2020 🥰🥰🥰
One of the most memorable guitar riffs ever played.
And one of the most memorable bass lines

Great ol Boz Scaggs with a timeless cut from that massive album,Silk Degrees. It seemed everybody that had a turntable or 8-track player owned a copy Jeff Porcaro is sorely missed as a drummer & songwriter with his band TOTO.
LOVE how the song suddenly kicks into overdrive at 4:35 and everyone looks like they're having a great time!
And Boz himself said “there wasn’t a chance in hell Lowdown would be released as a single”. Look where this song has gotten him since.
I know!!! I was a kid when I first heard this (about 6 or 7) on R&B Radio and knew it was a hit???? It won an R&B Grammy:):)
