In March 2023, Rivers of Nihil wrapped up a recording session that saw the now four-piece band birth a considerable amount of new music featuring their previous bassist/backup vocalist Adam Biggs as the new lead vocalist/bassist. This recording session also marked the first appearance of new guitarist Andy Thomas (ex-Black Crown Initiate), whose vocals also play prominently in the music, as a member of Rivers of Nihil. These new singles are the first to showcase the band’s new lineup in full-on collaboration, and demonstrates that while this is a new, brave sound with tons of potential, it also carries the band's classic energy.

I love how a drum fill goes from a transition, to pretty much a mini solo, at 3:40

I've got the perfect recommendation for you, check out "No Tomorrow" by Vintersea. The drumming on that song is phenomenal and there's a full drum solo in the middle, Vintersea is a female fronted Progressive Death Metal band (with cleans as well).
This song is the album closer for their most recent album "Woven Into The Ashes" (amazing album from start to finish), highly recommend checking out Vintersea!

Nah, he was the heart and soul of BCI. He sounds like an afterthought in RoN. At least, this far. He also sounds a bit whiny in this one, which is a first for him. I hope they don't turn into a metalcore shitshow
@@theodorev666 Definitely agreed he was the heart and soul of BCI. But I think Rivers is utilizing him perfectly in context with what they do and how their sound is evolving.
As far as them turning into a "metalcore shitshow" ... I don't even see how that's a thought given their last full-length and the singles they've released since. Yes, there's some clean singing, but nothing about this says metalcore.

I always wondered why i heard what sounded like Andy Thomas from Black Crown singing, but i didnt realize he joined the band until now, based lineup move. Gonna miss him in BCI tho 😭
Awesome track. I just got to know Jake is not on board anymore, damn. They surely can manage it musically but his stage presence was definitely a plus. If Criminals is typical for the sound of a next album they'll have me waiting anxiously though.

Really enjoying the foreboding guitar passages layered subtly in the mix -- gives me some Monarchy vibes.
Also want to say Biggs has really impressed me vocally with these releases. He's always been great doing back-up vocals, but hearing him at the forefront made me realize how much power he has.

Writing this before the official release, but have heard the song already, and it is fantastic. When Clean and Focus came out I couldn't "get" it, but when I heard The Work as a whole they made so much sense. I am very convinced they are going to do it again with Criminals.
