thats sooo true that i read the word anvil as a bone inside the ear while studying (medicine), and i googled it as a non native speaker and wrote down in my notebook "tom and jerry big weight" hahah then i thought i rather educate myself lol
This is exactly the video I needed to see. Not for any reason as I will probably never use this. But I just had to know why it has this specific shape. There must be a reason
Very nice explanation for those of us with little or no knowledge of using an anvil. I will save this and review it in the future. Greetings from Maine.
Anvils are so awesome! After seeing these heavy things being dropped on people’s heads in cartoons a lot, you will enjoy using them for their main purpose! Being a blacksmith is a good thing to do in your spare time!
@gatorj3333 any stable sturdy mount will work as long as 1 it doesnt woble 2 you can secure your anvil and 3 its at the right height. i too am using an oak stump so you should be all good and if you want try and personalize it to give it that gatorj3333 feel
Great Video, this video answered a bunch of questions i had. But I have one more, what should I use to set my anvil on? Right now I have mine sitting on a oak stump. Will that work good enough? Thanks, Dillon
This would be great without the watermark of which turns people off more easily than if nothing was shown 😂 I searched this video out tho bc I’m high and interested in anvils, and the info is great, so I’ll stop talking
+Jaroslaw Filiochowski HEY, POLAK, I LIKE CAPS. AND IF THAT IS ALL YOU READ MY POST FOR, YOU ARE VERY DULL. NOTHING GOING ON NORTH OF YOUR ADAM,S APPLE.
Yes, there's a reason, it allows to Smith to "pause " to quickly assess the work, without losing his rhythm. It's also easier on the Smiths muscles as the rebound action almost lifts the weight of the hammer.

Anvil = horse shoes
NO BLACKSMITH WHO KNOWS ANYTHING STRIKES HIS ANVIL WITH A HAMMER WITHOUT HAVING A WORKPIECE BETWEEN THEM.
+Rohan Zener AND SOME EVEN KNOW THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A BLACKSMITH AND A FARRIER.
+Rohan Zener A FARRIER SHOES HORSES AND MAKES HORSESHOES. A BLACKSMITH DOES THIS SOMETIMES BUT IS NOT LIMITED TO JUST HORSE CARE.
+shadowmink888 Has your Caps Lock key get stuck? You should check that ASAP, because it's making you look like a total tool.
+Jaroslaw Filiochowski HEY, POLAK, I LIKE CAPS. AND IF THAT IS ALL YOU READ MY POST FOR, YOU ARE VERY DULL. NOTHING GOING ON NORTH OF YOUR ADAM,S APPLE.

0:58 Why does he strike the "bick" end of the anvil several times and not the actual metal he's forging? Is there a purpose to that?
Yes, there's a reason, it allows to Smith to "pause " to quickly assess the work, without losing his rhythm. It's also easier on the Smiths muscles as the rebound action almost lifts the weight of the hammer.
