I got to see them just 9 months after this show, in Greensboro, NC on 'The Game' tour, August, 1980. I'm very fortunate to have been in high school from 1977 to 1981. Hard rock golden age of a sorts.
Great reaction! Nala is so cute, she is at a great age right now, she's got you wrapped around her little paws! I love this concert, it is perhaps my favourite Queen concert. This concert was a charity gig that was organized by Paul McCartney! Queen stole the show, The Who, The Clash and Wings also performed! Queen was to0 big for the Hammersmith Odeon at this stage. Freddie's voice started gain power and weight during this stage. This is a great version of Somebody To Love, and Let Me Entertain You.
Thanks Rory. This is one of my Favourite concerts......I knew you would get to it eventually. We Will Rock You (fast Version) is Killer!!!! Gotta Love Freddie in his Leathers.
This is the tour I truly would have loved to seen Queen play live. It was part of their 'crazy tour' so this concert fitted perfectly in what they were doing at the time. They decided to tour venues that were small and intimate as they were by now working on bigger stages sets. They wanted to be closer and more intimate with the crowd and also a way to perform as band like they did in their younger days. Freddies look was directly inspired by the Village People and the biker character Glen Hughes, who he may have crossed paths with at the famous Gay nightclub The Anvil in New York.
This was just perfect, Rory! You know that I love all your reactions BUT you also should know by now that I LOOOOOOOVE when you give me some QUEEN - my favorite for over 50 years and still counting! This concert is great - December 26, 1979 with 5000 (?) fans in the audience. By this time in their long career, Queen is HUGE - they've performed all over to worldwide acclaim - they are on a roll and are bringing everyone with them - Freddie is in his element for sure....his vocals are terrific. This concert is just pure, unfiltered entertainment...26 songs...fantastic! I can't wait till you see them do "39"! Great reaction...thanks Rory.
This may be the tour that featured his short hair and new look. Must have been a shocker for some. But really, who could resist. I do agree = love John 's look. Again, very heightened energy out of the gates!
That was fab, Rory!! Thanks for bringing this to us today. Never the same show twice. Can hardly wait until the next episode. Deacon smashing it in the intro, looking fine!! Love him! Miss him, so much! Maybe some time you could react to the Friday 11 July '86 performance at Wembley Stadium. It is my favorite of the Majic Tour videos.
I think you were right when you were saying "Somebody to Love" was a defining song for them. I love this concert and thanks for doing it, Nala is getting so big! Take care.
Hi Rory, lovely puppy. I was in the Freddie rabbit hole for 4 years and have watched, read and listened to whatever is out there about Queen umpteen times to distraction, including with you. A few months ago I came across a phenomenal singer called Dimash. He stands on Freddie's shoulders, though he is in a league of his own, on another level. He is the best singer in the world, not that I don't still love Freddie. He covered 5 octaves, Dimash goes from bass to Soprano, like a Montserrat Caballe. He's bringing to fruition what Freddie attempted towards the end of his life - a true marriage between rock/pop and classical music. Dimash is changing music - he is the music...Give him a try, start with SOS. You might be amazed.
Look Freddie was a precuser to Dimech. How many years separate them. Why do you have to say that one is better than the other. Freddie had no filter, he was what he was, untutered rock singer You can be technically the best singer in the world but if you don't connect with people what does it matter, it doesn't. For me I will always love Freddies voice the best
LOL...Nala is just too cute but I feel for you with those puppy teeth. She's getting so big! Great reaction, as usual. Regarding the Village People, if I'm remembering correctly, I believe Peter Freestone said that Freddie used to see them frequent the same clubs and Freddie took that look from them. I'm pretty sure this was the 1979 concert at the Odeon. Village People put out their first album in 1977 so the timing is right as well.
😂 i remember this well... This after Queen had met The Village People. He loved the butch one. Thats where the idea for the mustache came from 😂😂 They had toured USA a bit.
What a treat I got goosebumps listening to it!!!! Freddie was such a showman and the band was fantastic to say the least amazing video. Your little girl has those long legs she hasn't grown into it makes them a bit clumsy...lol...how old is she now?
When John got his hair cut short they all said he looked like the bird man from Alcatraz so that became his nickname birdman 😂😂 Somebody To Love is onA Day At The Races album their 5th album x
This is Freddie’s coming out outfit . Your right, from the Village People.Freddie was friends with the guy from Village People and copied the look. Nala is just Gorgeous !. She got so big since I last saw her.
Gay bar scene. Clothing that is. Keeping his knees safe with those pads. Almost an intimate setting.just jamming away with STL. Nola is teething. Give her something to chew on while you’re holding her.
HEY RORY.... FYI, THERE'S A NEWER UPGRADE/REMASTER OF THIS WHOLE CONCERT NOW FROM 2023, BY: ADAM'S REMASTER channel. HERE'S THE LINK: ruclips.net/video/zwNvQ2z5NPg/видео.html (I do think the quality is a bit better than the one you're using so far, although that one is good too. With the ADAM'S REMASTER version though, he chose to start the beginning of the video just where the picture comes in, and left off the first bit of audio where the screen was just black.)
Hammersmith Oden on held 3500 people. Can you imagine being THAT intimate with Queen 😮❤❤❤
And being deaf for days!

Just a few gentlemen wearing ties on their way to the office in a good mood … decided just to belt out a few songs on their way …
I think you were right when you were saying "Somebody to Love" was a defining song for them. I love this concert and thanks for doing it, Nala is getting so big! Take care.
