  • I walk around Pushkar Lake in India and witness people bathing, being close to their spiritual roots, feeding the fish and birds that inhabit the area, and absorb life happening along the shoreline of this sacred and holy lake as we wander by.
One man tries to befriend me only to request money, he then follows me for a short way as he considers making another attempt to demand some cash. He was initially very friendly and playful but became a little more surly when his request was refused. I feel having the camera with me and blogging helped dissuade him from continuing to try extract money from me.
We see holy men, statues and many great old buildings enveloped in a very spiritual and calm atmosphere that makes Pushkar lake a very special place I would recommend everyone to visit if they can.
It was a great walk around the lake.

Refreshing to see travelers other than the hippies with their dreadlocks and elephant pants. Not that there's anything wrong with those, but diversity is always welcome 😂
Also, if you use "namashkar" instead of "namaste", that will let locals know you know a bit more than your average visitor.

There's definitely a few of the hippie sort out this way, and throughout India in general, I guess. The alternative types would outnumber others in Pushkar, I'd say.

Very sad about scammers and those that are friendly only for the money.
As an Indian if I ever emcounter such people I make sure they don't dare to scam anyone else. My dad once scolded one of the scammers so bad he was never seem again in that area. I just wish government would make strict laws against scamming and forceful selling. That's so irritating for anyone coming from outside.

I hope you had a good time. If you're still in pushkar, must try some local delicacies. "Malpua" is one of the famous and a delicious desert you'll find in pushkar. Mostly available everywhere but one of the best place to have it is near the main entrance of Gau Ghat.
