  • As a screen reader user, I’m able to know what is in a picture on social media or the web by having my screen reader read back what is called alt text. Sadly, many images don’t have alt text included in them. The importance of having an image description for a picture can easily make a post or web page inaccessible. Imagine if someone pointed you to a website or document but the only thing that was visually there was just a title or heading followed by a blank page taking up the rest of the space. I mention in the video how to add alt text to an image.

As a legally blind person, I don’t use a screen reader but large text, but I still take the time to put alt text in the most descriptive way possible on my images for the fellow blind community to add that little more accessibility to the internet. I also turn captions on when posting videos if possible

That’s awesome to hear. A little bit of Accessibility goes a long way.

@@JuanAlcazar Very true, it’s awesome you’re spreading awareness around what people can do to make the internet more accessible. Others might think it’s a waste of time, but if they are promoting something via photo for example, they are missing out on roughly 14% of potential customers as roughly 14% of people rely on screen readers to navigate the internet. Thank you 🙏
