hi from New Zealand, I'm a saddler most my time doing English work. Now I'm starting my journey into the artisan side of leather work as I'm increasingly doing more western work. I will be manufacturing myself a reining saddle so I wanted to learn carving before I get started on the saddle
Disabled vet, leatherworking is something I started during surgical recovery. Been loving your TEACHING style. I taught a lot of things over two careers. Love the tips and tricks you share.
Thank you for taking the time to teach the young. I am a disabled Vet from a long time ago. I no longer work leather for money anymore, but I still enjoy leather craft. Your teachings Helps me and a bunch of us old farts to to remember how how it is done. For what is worth I am almost 80 years old. God Bless you and thanks again.
65 disabled from a fall but pretty good hands. Thank you for the great amount of explaining how tools work and where to get quality materials. Great job.
Endlessly fascinated by leather tooling and decided to take the plunge, buy a small kit, some leather and have a crack at it myself. Watching this tooling come alive is mesmerising. I especially love watching videos where people use the swivel knife and I'm keen to have a go at it soon. I'm in Australia.
bliss1947 from Chino Valley, AZ. Love this pattern and video. In 1962 I bought a like new, but 10 year old OlsenNolte saddle for $400. It was fully tooled in the oak leaf and acorn pattern. My Dad used a Tandy pattern to make me a matching belt. I still have it, the belt...wish I still had that saddle! At 76 I am just starting to explore leather tooling and this pattern is the one I aspire to use. Thanks for all your great videos.
Joe, I know this is a comment a year after and you probably won’t see this but WOW! I am so impressed with the way you work so smoothly. Your work shows the craftsman you are sir and I applaud you! Coolidge, AZ

Any videos where you dye and finish this piece? Much appreciated! Im a complete amateur but I am eager for the challenge of learning a new skill. My focus for tooling will be oak leaves and acorns!
My first western saddle was a very old Circle Y with oak leaf and acorn pattern. I learned to ride in that saddle on my first horse. Lots of fond memories there! I love the update to the pattern; it's a very clean, modern look, while still being traditional enough to recognize. Maybe if I get good enough, I'll adapt this pattern for a new western saddle. It's beautiful, well done.
Loving this tutorial on carving! I’ve been wanting to start, but like one of your first comments, I haven’t had the confidence to start. Seeing this makes me want to dive in!
