I find tutorials by Weather the best in that the instructors are well prepared and well versed in the presentation. Joe and Chuck are the best I have seen. The best part of this tutorial is in the illustration of the different tools and how they are best used. A big thank you, again...from Alberta, Canada.
Beautiful work! And amazing job on the instruction on how to use just a few of these tools in such a short time video. I’ve been doing leather work but haven’t got into tooling yet, but how I’d love to sit and be your student!!!
Great video. You explained everything so well. Even for someone who’s been doing this for a little while I still love watching good tutorials because we never stop learning. I am really looking forward to your next video! Thank you!!

This is a good tutorial Because it tells what each tool does and the catalog number to take note of when buying tools stamps and adding to your equipment. In some tutorials, the teacher will say, "Next tool is XXXX" but without the tool cat#, it can't help when buying more stamps, if you don't know the Cat#. Until you learn the tool and cat#s. Also, the salesperson will take you more seriously if you use the cat# rather than just, "It looks like so, so,so, ...e .! Appreciate the tutorials.
Thanks for the video! I am hoping to dip my toes into leather crafting and this video helped me understand what tools to start with on the basic level! Thank you!
Gracias JOE, por tu explicación muy interesante y además por enseñar las herramientas, acompañado del paso a paso para su uso y donde se dé de usar saludos desde Panamá 😃😃👍👍Thank you JOE, for your very interesting explanation and also for teaching the tools, accompanied by the step by step for their use and where to use greetings from Panama😃😃👍👍
I used to do leather craft as a kid,,, had a great set of tools that once belonged to my dad. I've been considering trying my had at it again. Thanks for the video.
I was a Wheelwright Apprentice back in the 60’s and yes I do remember the 60’s, but the Wheelwright I worked for believed that we should know how to do all the jobs for Wagons. So we made out bolts, rims, planks to include all of the harness. I can still hear him saying “Start the cuts deep then go shallow and always converge”
Good video. I would definitely like to see more on how, and when, to use each tool. I think this would make more sense to me if you took an actual flower, or leaf, sitting in front of your leather, and show us how to reproduce that item.
Thank you for the tutorial. It was great for beginners. I learned a lot about some of the tools that I have. My kit came with a lot of these tools. I was wondering what they were for and how to used them. This gave me a good start. Best regards, Richard
Fantastic addition to the lineup. I'd really appreciate it if one of the first vids is on the care and sharpening of the swivel knife, particularly a Ceramic Swivel Knife. I sharpen my leatherwork knives, no problem, but the ceramic swivel is giving me fits. Any advice on which polish to use, green, white, or rouge, etc. I can't find any info on the ceramic knife and that's the only one I have. This will be a great series, thanks so much! Karen
This was an awesome video. Way better than the deluxe carving demo video with the HORRIBLE music. This video is exactly how it should’ve been done. I can hear the instructor clearly and the demo was super awesome.
@Joe Meling, please correct me if i am wrong but you had a big career as a Bull Rider? BTW Great Video, and I hope Chuck is doing well, I look forward to seeing working from both of you,,, Great job!

Just cursing? Every time I try to do something with sharp tools it's end of me looking like a Gettysburgh survivor after the Pickett charge... Covered in bendages and splitted slice of fingers everywhere...
I did not hear if you 'cased' the leather before you started with the swivel knife. Do you do that first? Pencil on the leather or pen through tracing paper to transfer the pattern?
How to cut several pieces of the same shape. When each cut separately (sp) all seem a little different in size, shape. Do you stack the leather and cut all at once. Or ?? Thanks for all the great info and videos.
You really should have added the antiquing so show how it all comes together because I couldn’t see half of the details you were talking about but thank you for the great video and happy Easter 🐣
Hi Rick, Thank you for the feedback! We'll go into more detail in the future videos as far as the weight of leather, how to hold the tools and much more! We'll pass along the request for more close-ups also!
Good morning, I follow your videos with great "awe" and wonder. You are so skilled... My poor projects looks like done by a kindergarten toddler. Can I make a question? I'm trying to learn how to carve, and I have a pair of swivel kinfes, one with a regular flat blade and one with an angled one. My problem is in the leather. In Italy is awfully expensive and I'm wondering if there is some kind of cheap material where I can try the cuts. I don't know... Something like linoleum (a soft, thick kind of rubber) or something else... Thank you for your time.
Hi Luca, Unfortunately, I am not sure about this one, I've only ever used leather. It would be hard to get the same temperament and I'm afraid linoleum would be hard on a knife blade. I'm sorry I don't have a better answer for you!
@@WeaverLeatherSupply no problem at all, thank you a lot for your kind answer, and keep the videos running. They are a BIG source of inspiration. Thank you again.

The final detail cuts at the end, do you just leave them raw like that, do you go in with a bevel to smooth out the cut or will the swivel knife do the work? Great video, thanks!
