Thank you for including The Secret Garden. Definitely a favorite of my family and myself. Ms. Smith is my favorite actress of her age. God bless her.
Oh I totally forgot about David Copperfield. Another favorite.
I would have put _The Prime of Jean Brodie_ at No. 1.
She gave an incredible performance that still hasn't been topped.
The lady in the van is one of my favorites
👍
She is a treasures! I adore her in anything she plays.wonderful actress!
1-The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie
2- The Lady in the Van
3- My House in Umbria
4- Tea With Mussolini
5- Ladies in Lavender
also nanny mcphee and harry potter
My top five Maggie performances:
The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie (obvi)
Bed Among The Lentils (talking heads)
Keeping Mum
Tea with Mussolini
The Secret Garden
Loved her in Hook as Granny Wendy with Robin Williams.
The Lonely Passion of Judith Hearne is a harrowing and powerhouse performance one of the best by an actress ever
Auch mein liebling
I so agree !!! She should have won EVERY award for that one....
How could you forget "Plaza Suite"? Not only was she extremely funny, she won an Oscar for heavens sake.
Presuming you mean California Suite, I agree. Weird choices made.
Yes, boo to Harry Potter
@@lilymartens5436If you have read the books, she was the perfect Minerva McGonagall. But it wasn’t a top ten given her career. And her performances of Shakespeare aren’t mentioned at all? No poor list. Great actress.
How can 'The Lonely Passion of Judith Hearne' and 'California Suite' not make the list? Not to mention 'The Lady in the Van', 'The Missionary' and 'Sister Act'.
Maggie Made to many films to make a top ten, same goes for Dames Helen, Judy, Helena, Joan and Brenda
Wow! She won an Oscar for California Suite! But no mention. And Murder by Death where she played to perfection a straight comedic role. Her Beatrice in Much Ado About Nothing is the best I’ve seen.
Murder By Death, Death on the Nile, The VIPs, The Missionary...
What the Hell does 'best' mean - box office takings? Where's ' The Lonely Passion of Judith Hearne'? 'A Private Function'? Or even 'The Lady in the Van'?
And First Wives Club
“A Private Function” is the funniest movie I’ve seen.
Or California Suite. She won an Oscar for that one!
Maggie is a one off... her dry sence of humor is amazing🇬🇧
Completely missed Travels with My Aunt. My personal second favourite after Miss Brodie.
Hook should've got a mention.
Here is my DAME MAGGIE SMITH - TOP 10 FILMS !!!
1: The Prime Of Miss Jean Brodie
2: My House In Umbria
3: Travels With My Aunt
4: Quartet (1981)
5: Tea With Moussolini
6: The Lonely Passion Of Judith Hearne
7: Sister Act
8: Ladies In Lavender
9: Suddenly Last Summer (1993)
10: Death On The Nile
My favorite movie of hers has to be Downton Abbey she was a badass countess with many funny lines
Nice
She was also excellent in The Lonely Passion of Judith Hearne.
Thanksfully for your work and this beautiful selection🤩, completed by the co-contributions of everyone here in the comments (nice fraternity ! ha ha !), thanks to All of us !!!💝💖 I'd like to add this very subtile and beautiful movie "From Time to Time" (2009), very interesting for young people... and everyone of course !!! Best thoughts to All over the world, let's now enjoy to discover or watch again all those marvellous movies 💝!!! So many gifts, so much Love for Maggie Smith and all actors and friends in her singular life !!!💋💋💖
Keeping mum. my old lady..and the lady in the van ware missed off the list
Lady in the van movie Maggie Smith love it
Dame Maggie Smith was also enjoyable in California Suite (1978)
Amooo sus películas! Grande Maggie Smith!!!❤
I am not a 100 percent sure, but Helene Bonham Carter played a role in a adapted Barbara Cartland story before she was casted in " A room with a View" I have the DVD "German issued" She was never mentioned !!
I absolutely adore Maggie Smith❣️
Maggie never disappoints!
A Private Function ?
I wouldn't include "Clash of the Titans" in this list. It was dreadful.
Where's Sister Act :o
a strange ranking but putting Harry Potter at #1 is absolutely absurd. There were any number of performances not mentioned in this list that were much more deserving.
Bonham Carter's film debut was Lady Jane.
Actually it was "A Room with a View"
My House in Umbria is not the greatest film ever, but it is Maggie’s most seductive performances
nice
There were 3 Dames in that movie.
I likely would have switched "Potter" and "Jean Brodie", but a good list, nonetheless.
Sister Act 1 and 2 ❤
Toby has his mother's lips.
How can her best movie be Harry Potter, that is so disappointing.
"My House in Umbria."
I grew up with Clash of the Titans!!!
I thought 1-8 was going to be Harry Potter
The Prime if Miss Jean Brodie is her best film ever
I love the Harry Potter saga but, that is not her #1 performance! Letting off California Suite, Sister Act, The lady in the Van is just not ok.
2 is Jean Brodie? Good grief
stay calm
Sorry: Correction-that was California Suite
1- Prime of Miss Jean Brodie
2- Room with a View
3- Laides in Lavender
4-The others in any order , except the Harry Potter crap which she likely only did for the money.
👍
Dame Maggie Smith does not have to do anything for the money; so, she must have had other motives for doing the Potter films.
Sister act
mmm :)
ok
Clas of the titans is seen as a joke and a dreadful film wasting the talent of all those in the film.
Evil under the sun is seen as the worst of the 80s crime adaptations of Christies novels.
✌️
I guess at the time, Clash of the Titans must have been considered bad ass as they broadcast it each year on network television for at least two decades afterward.
@nebraskabugeaterfkadragonw7825 in the UK we have a saying....
"Simple things for simple minds"
Presumably, that's why they show Clash of the Titans so often in the USA🤣🤣🤣
@@old.not.too.grumpy. That's an unfair over generalization. If we want to over generalize the intelligence of the people of a country based on the popularity of a movie from the early 80s, then what would the long-term love affair with Monty Python's The Meaning of Life say about the UK?
😄
