I forgot the name of the film, but she played a retired actress who lived in a nursing home with other retired entertainers. It was a very poignant performance.
Where should I start??? 😳 Jean Horton in Quartet was absolutely magnificent but they are all incredible. Her Mathilde Girard is also extremely good (except her fall. That was a little too 'theater-stage' but try to fall 'realistically' at 80😅)
While I'm more familiar with her role in the Harry Potter films, my first exposer to her was in The Secret Garden as Mrs. Medlock, Lord Craven's servant and housekeeper
I enjoy her on The Carol Burnette Show! She was in a skit for The Family (Mama's Family) as Bubba's elementary school teacher. She was also amazing in The Secret Garden. I have a great-something grandmother named Margaret Smith, and as one could imagine, trying to find anything on her for genealogy has been impossible because it's such a common name during her time!
7:42 - *BURN!!!* 😂 🤣 😂 🤣 😂 🤣 😂 🤣 I have always liked Maggie Smith and now that I know some of the hardships she continued to work through, I'm doubly impressed!
Harry Potter didn't make Maggie Smith. Every movie she's ever been in has been very special.. Actors like Maggie Smith and Ian McKellen and the like made Harry Potter. Great stars of the screen we won't see again. No face lifts and Botox needed for these greats. They give us everything we want on the screen no matter what their age.
-"Turbulent marriage", "drama in personal life" -Two marriages in 50 years, last of which ended in her becoming a widow. This is as mundane a personal life as they can get.
I still don't understand giving celebs royal sir/dame titles. Are they expected to defend the royal family in battle or are they just kissing each others asses?
What has been your favorite performance by Maggie Smith?
I liked her as Wendy in Hook starring Robin Williams as an older Peter Pan

@@lucillegriffin9525 It's Quartet and she was a former opera singer😊
@@AdmiralJaneway74656 thank you. I loved that film.

I swear she’s been around forever. She’s like the British Betty White
Her and Patricia Routledge!
Looper seems to have missed how dryly savage her reply to Ian McK was… and how typical that is of her wit
She's a legend. Probably the greatest british female actor ever
Real
Watched her as Desdemona and Miss Jean Brodie, I never stopped loving her work
Her acting in the exotic marigold hotel movies is clearly underrated as she was my favorite character in them.
she is an awesome talent. superb actress.
Murder By Death, all time classic!!!
I remember her watching Clash of the Titans well the old movie of it. Maggie Smith is a great actress.

I loved The Lady in the Van from 2015.
