Multi-Wheeled Monsters: C-5M 747 & A380

  • A rare opportunity recently to film and compare three of the world's largest aircraft arriving in quick succession. The Emirates Airbus A380 was a scheduled arrival, but the US Air Force Lockheed C-5M Super Galaxy and British Airways Boeing 747-400 were fog diversions to BHX from Mildenhall and Heathrow respectively.
    The USAF plane needed special airfield precautions as it was reported as carrying 'hazardous cargo'.
    Best wishes to everyone for 2017!

    That C5 landing is about as close to perfect as it gets. Absolute butter! That nosegear sets down like a baby in a cradle, soft and gentle. 👍

    • @curtekstrom6600
      @curtekstrom6600 5 лет назад +2

      The Wing Over the Fuselage design enables the C-5M as well as all other military aircraft to approach at lower air speeds. As well as quicker Lift off during Take Off

    • @griffinfaulkner3514
      @griffinfaulkner3514 5 лет назад +3

      @@curtekstrom6600 not to mention keeps the wing spars out of the cargo area, increasing available space and decreasing loading and unloading times.

    I came here to see the Airbus A380 and Lockeed C5 compared, but soon realized my dad worked as a design engineer on both the C5 and a little later, on the 747. He had been working on the General Dynamics F-111 in Ft. Worth, TX then we moved to Kennesaw, GA (as Marietta and Atlanta areas were full with an influx of new people). After the C5 project, we moved to Los Angeles, CA for dad to work on the original Boeing 747 (what culture shock for the family, as Kennesaw was super rural!). How wonderful to see these great giants all landing in the same place! Amazing video, with such great memories! Thanks!

    Truly spectacular marvels of modern science which makes these MASSIVE Aircraft look weightless....as my Dad (who was a 747 pilot in India) used to describe the perfect landings...."it must be smooth as a baby's bum".

    The Military Pilots made the sweetest landing out of the 3 aircraft. The BA 747 was all over the place, which I found interesting, especially in view of the fact that there was zero wind. Zero wind confirmation at 2:46.

    Not gonna lie, even though each landing was beautiful, the 747 absolutely buttered that one, nice smooth flair.

    Military teaches to keep full elevator deflection on the rollout for maximum aerodynamic braking while keeping heaviest possible normal force on the mains. That 747 let the nose slam down compared to the C-5. Passengers get uncomfortable doing a wheelie down the runway, which is why the airlines let the nose down quicker.

    • @andrewanane9715
      @andrewanane9715 7 лет назад +3

      Noodle Games Well it is that BIG! And there is even another plane BIGGER than it! It generates more MONEY for airlines than any airliner and it was AWARDED as the BEST plane in the world. A380= PERFECTION! 747 with that head looks more of alien though, it looks more of an octopus lmao 🐙.

      You are pretty obsessed with size ha?
      With the A380 it's all about prestige (the passengers like the feeling of sitting in WORLDS BIGGEST AIRLINER) thats why airlines buy it. Actually the 747-8 uses less fuel per seat than the A380.
      When it comes to looks everyone is different. I would always take the beautifully well
      proportioned 747 over that fat pig. But that's just personal preference though.

    The C-5M may sound like a 747, but they're not as powerful nor performance-savvy as a 747, let alone a 777. The A380's bypass ratio is similar to that of the older C-5's, yet they (GP7200) may not be as eye-catching as the TF39.
